Subject: First WoC List - 750 Points, but Knights or Chosen?

I finally have enough of my army assembled/painted/based to get my first games going at the local GW (even if the guy behind the models is a complete noob!), and am pulling together a few army lists to get some small-scale games going. I have two 12-man warrior battalions (one with HW/shields for Tzeentch, the other with two HW for Khorne), a 10-man Chosen unit, 5 marauder horsemen, 5 knights, 10 dogs, and a sorceror for a general. Other stuff like a BSB, warshrine, knight musician and standard-bearer, more horsemen, and enough warriors to make two 18-man battalions are in the works, but I'd like to get some gaming experience under my belt first. Developed two 750 point lists using what I have painted, would appreciate any feedback:
Chosen-heavy List (746 points):
-- Lvl 2 Sorceror of Tzeentch, Spell Familiar, Ironcurse Icon (160 points)
-- 11 Chaos Warriors, MoT, HW/S, FC (226 points)
-- 5 Marauder Horsemen, LA, Flails (80 points)
-- 10 Chosen, FC, Halberds, Favor of the Gods, Banner of Rage (280 points)
-- Obviously, this one is built around a strong, defensible anvil of warriors with a hefty Chosen hammer...I like the idea of cavalry (even if they aren't as strong in 8th Ed), so I plan to vanguard the horsemen up to threaten small units or war machines, and at the least they'll give the opponent something to shoot at if nothing else. Downsides are the extremely small number of units.
Knight-Heavy List (746 Points)
- Lvl 2 Sorceror of Tzeentch, Charmed Shield, Ironcurse Icon, Bloodcurdling Roar (170 points)
-- 11 Chaos Warriors, MoT, HW/S, FC, Blasted Standard (266 points)
-- 5 Marauder Horsemen, Flails, LA (80 points)
-- 5 Chaos Knights (200 points)
-- 5 Warhounds (30 points)
-- I bulked up the sorceror's offensive power a bit with bloodcurdling roar, thinking that now that I don't have an in-your-face block of warriors for my hammer (knights aren't bad, but they're more for flanking, right?), that giving him something in the shooting phase would be worthwhile. Was debating whether to keep warhounds for screen, or give sorceror spell familiar to get him another spell...what do you think?

I would say the second list is better with the models you have now. Chosen don't seem to make up their points vs a normal squad of warriors. I would recomend instead of Flails give you Horsemen throwing javs and spears. Also ditch the warhounds and give the horsemen a MoS. Blasted standard in a 750 point list may also not be worth it. You may want to change that out and give your Chaos knights a mark of khorne or tzeentch I reccomend khorne. A squad of 6 knights for me with a musi and a std was able to kill an entire unit of TK's with a prince in it. Knights can flank, but also since they have a 1+ as are ungodly hard to kill either way.
The roar is an ok thing, but it's normally meant to be used to kill monsterous creatures. Oh look I wounded your necrosphinx 4 times no armor saves. Against basic units it's not the best point spend in the world.

Thanks for the response; I'm going to try fielding both (if I can get the lower-point games!) and see...you're probably right about about the blasted standard, though. Not sure about the MoK on the knights without hounds...they have decent leadership, but with no screen, I might have them inadvertantly charging off after something prematurely. Will post results.

At low point levels, knights rock hard. grey_death had some in his 1000 point list at DakkaCon, and nobody came close for the first 3 games (although he had an extremely tight 4th).
At higher point levels, with some augmenting units Chosen can be insane... but I'd vote knights for anything under 1.5K (and they're still very viable after that, just not as insane as at low point levels).

I second that knights for sure they will rip things to shreds and just mess up the opponent.

Knights and marauders work wonders together.
Marauders can dish it out, and are cheap enough to be scary big blocks.
Add in either an exaulted on foot, or a wizard on steed and you're just about done.
I like a single spawn of slaanesh as the 3rd unit in small games. The random movement really pairs will with frenzy, and the T5 ASF isn't as easy to kill at 750 points as it is at 2K.
You should be able to do:
50 Marauders w/ great weapons (MoK)
5 Knights (MoK)
1 Spawn
1 hero.

Of the original lists I would go with the knights list, lost the dogs and give the knights a mark Kh or Tz
