Hello, I was recently at a Wargaming Tournament "The Warlords" and in the 40k section of the Tournament, I saw these to "Adults" sort of bickering over a reserve rule, wasn't sure which one, well anyways, me and my two friends were watching this go down, and it began to get a bit more "up there" in the argument, and I was getting a bit worried because 2 of the umpires were watching them the hole time and I did not want to see them get in any trouble, so I grabbed one of my mates, took him over to the table, and we just went over there and commented on one of the models on the table and said that the person did a really good job on it, so what it did was let them shut up and talk about something else, and what happened was they TOTALLY forgot about the agruement and we began talking about painted/dry brushing certain models.

I was just curious if that was the right thing for me to do, or should I have just left and let the umps deal with it. Me and my friend were sort of pleased with the matter because one of two people arguing won the 40k section, so me and him thought it was a good idea to go over there and change the subject because if we didn't that person may have bin removed before even getting to the final

But I was just curious on what you guys thought we should have done

cheers

The umpires and organizers are there to settle rules disputes and the like. You should have let them tend to it. Honestly, when two people at a tournament are having a heated argument, my first inclination is to stay out of their way. I really don't need to get that stressed out about plastic spacemen.

It always makes me feel better about myself to see grown people behaving like 4 year old over a mini war game. So I let them go at it will pride :-)

At the risk of sounding holier-than-thou, I'd've left it to the judges. Not saying what you did was *wrong*, but I tend to avoid people who get over-heated about plastic toys, and just let the judge/referee deal with it if its that important to the two participants.

Probably at that point it had become less about the actual rule and more about not losing the argument/face. When you came along you gave them both an out without having to conceded to the other. People have a habit of tanking the game too seriously at times.

You diverted the arguement without getting yourself involved.

"He's right bro!" is a terrible idea.

"You guys catch that Canucks game?" great idea.

You didn't do the easy thing, you did the right thing. They shut up, finished their game, and were better mates afterwards.

So yes, I applaud your actions. Well done, man!

You did the right thing. Kudos to you sir!

Now, if only GW would actually care to write rules that make sense, are as tight as other games, and usable for tournament play, stuff like that wouldn't happen as often.

+1

normally i don't really care if people argue unless it's making my guests uncomfortable, or there's about to be a fist fight. you did what you thought was right, and that's awesome.

Definitely did the right thing-nobody got called out for their actions, nobody was forced to leave, it just diverted the issue and made the tournament enjoyable for everyone again. Kudos. You did the right thing. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

I am wondering why the Umpires were just standing watching and had not intervened yet.

No offense intended here but, anyone who is at a tournament is already taking their plastic toys too seriously, people arguing at a tournament is just doubling up.

That being said, OP...good job on the distraction.

I saw good on you because you stopped the argument in a peaceful, resourceful way.

If you got up there with a rulebook and started pointing fingers in someones face I would have a little different take on ya.

Good job OP

Wargaming is serious business.. I've seen people argue over just about anything

The only rational thing to do is start screaming until your face turns blue.. Stomping your feet and throwing dice really adds a splash of culture also

Being loudly mocked is just as effective.

I think my best argument to date ended with us smashing each others models with a 10lb rock that was on the table as scenery. After we both pancaked 2 of each others minis the argument ended in a draw!

Normally the standard thing people do is sit around and watch these two tools go at it until they either have a corinary or come to blows. You gave them a out and it worked out. More then likely thats all that was needed. In the heat of a tourny and some serious competition that happens from time to time.

The Umps in this case were in the wrong for letting this situation go as far as it did. You took that hard right over the easy sit back and watch stance. That took brass.

Good on ya.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There will always be fanatics with any hobby. The OP did the right thing although realistically, the umpires should have intervened at the start of the hooh hah.

your way was good but slamming a space marine up both their nostrils and telling them "shut up and act like men not children" would have been equally effective

Can anyone answer this?

Why did umpires stand about and not intervene?

2) get some popcorn.
