I need help building a 2500pt list for upcoming 'Ard Boyz.

These are the models I can field

Suits: 14/15

Troops: 40ish FW, 40ish Kroot w/ 8 hounds and 2 Ox

Fast: 6 Pathfinder, 2 Piranhas

Heavy: 2 Hammerheads, 3 XV88

Transports: 2 Devilfish

I was planning on running 2 HQ Shas'o w/ bodyguards. And 3 two man suit teams. And using all heavy support, and fast attack. I am not sure what to do about troops since I only have 2 available DF. Oh, I also have 6 stealth suits I can put together if they would be worth fielding.

Well, for 2500 points, it goes without saying to use up all the FoC slots.

Stealths? Put them on the shelf. As for the troops, see below.

For 'Ard Boyz, you should consult AdvancedTautactica.com. They don't have a 'lists' forum, but for AB, but there will definitely be AB threads on tactics.

As for whacha got:

I wouldn't. Instead, Shas'els with Target Arrays. Don't waste points on the extra wound or leadership of a Shas'O. Odds are they'll die to Instant Death anyway.

SickSix wrote:And 3 two man suit teams.
So, do you have six suits or 14? If you have the 14 then I'd go:

Two trios of Deathrains,
Two trios of FKs (both bodyguard & Shas'el units)
last one, your choice; I'd go FireStorms or another unit of Deathrains

To "pad" points, put a Team Leader in each unit, with Target Array, 2 guns and then a hwMT. Bonded. Points well spent.

Great, you've got lotsa kroot. At a AB tourney, it's the tactically advantaged kroot that would serve better, with their Outflank and ability to field 20+ models. You'll need 'em for bubble wrap, infiltration prevention and Outflank. So, I'd make three units kroot for:

#1. Bubble wrap the broadsides
#2. Outflank or Infiltrate as needed
#3. Outflank or Infiltrate as needed. If not needed, then use as a 2nd bubble-wrap

As for FWs, I'd simply consider them at the end of your list.
SickSix wrote:Fast: 6 Pathfinder,
You need more. I'd go 2 teams, 6 each. Meaning 2 Warfish (which you have) for 2 teams of FWs, but again, I'd worry about that last.

SickSix wrote:2 Piranhas
Not enough, but equip 'em for anti-Tank with FBs, TAs, DisPods and probably Flechettes. Full squadrons are best.

SickSix wrote:Heavy: 2 Hammerheads, 3 XV88
This is what I own, but I really think AB requires 9 b-sides. However, to go with what you got:
x2 Railhead, MT, DisPod, BCs, Target Lock. If you have the points, flechettes.
B-sides - Team Leader, BK, 2 Shield Drones, A.s.s. for all 3

SickSix wrote:Transports: 2 Devilfish
Warfish - SMS, TA, MT, DisPod.

I have not idea the points of all of this. A small rethink of my mind, is to have the B-sides have all Drone Controlers, and thus 6 Shield Drones. Makes them damned hard to kill, adequately bubble-wrapped, of course.

Thanks for the in-depth reply. I really appreciate the advice and will work on a list to see what I can afford.

If you can afford/aquire 9 Broadsides, it would REALLY help you out in 'Ard Boys.

I find that @ 2500 you're normally going to looking at a veritable parking lot of vehicles with most standard lists/builds.

Additionally, armies like Daemons and Nids are going to have some seriously nasty Monstrous Creatures @ this point cost. My Daemons field Fateweaver + Bloodthirster + 3 Daemon Princes @ 2500. Thats a lot of high toughness, multiple wound models.

Additionally, when you have 9 twinlinked railguns on the field, you can lay some seriously high potency shots into enemy heavy infantry squads as well, with a reasonable volume of fire (once all the tanks are dead, or if there aren't any to begin with).

I would go so far as to say, that without 9 Broadsides, you are going to find it very hard to be competetive.

Now you can take a Hammerhead instead, but I would highly recommend AT assitance in other areas. (FB Piranha, for instance)

Those kroot are going to be key too. Screen your expensive units with them, take advantage of the 4+ cover that they offer against heavy weapons.

Target priority and mobility are going to be key. However there are some matchups that you are going to be at extreme disadvantage... Space Wolve Missile spam puts out a higher volume, of equally potent and more versitile shooting than you, with greater accuracy and survivability. Additionally, their "shooty" units are also more assaulty then yours... it's a space marine eat Tau world right now, but with sound tactics and a little luck, you'll do fine

Good luck! Way to represent The Greater Good!
