Why are lots of people now GK players?
Because lots of people always change to the newest army
Because lots of people like the fluff
Because people think they are indestructible.
I dunno...
Because GW is overrating them
Because people like the idea of the Grey Knights

I actually want to buy 2 troops and a HQ for grey knights, to try them out, but first I want to know why so many other people like them, as I don't like the idea of being "another" grey knights player

Can you guys tell me probably what makes them so attractive?

Stupid people think they're indestructible, that's why so many people think that's the reason there are so many GK players.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Because as much as people like to whine about Mat Ward's screwing around with the fluff, it is the flavor of the month. Players think that using the newest codex written for the current rules set will guarantee a win... until the next codex comes out.

And Karnak the Amazing predicts.... this thread will be replicated when the next codex comes out...

Yeah, people will be complaining about how Necrons, SoB, and then Tau are too powerful.

It's a cycle.

I'd be inclined to agree, but I don't really remember people hurrying to hop aboard the Tyranid train when their 5th Edition codex came out. In fact, after the FAQ, I've seen tons of old players putting armies on sales, for reasons good and bad.

So I guess not everyone flocks to the newest codex. There has to be an additional factor to pull them in.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Is there an option 7. because daemonhunters was their previous army? Not everyone jumped on the 'new shiny army' bandwagon, some were already riding it

The models look pretty incredible, and they have decent rules. They're also new so they have a good, updated model range and they are plastered all over GW's site.

Yeah, option 7 for me. The way I would discourage them from thinking you're a bandwagon jumper is to put your entire army in a sock, club them at the base of the skull with it, and then when they wake up, point out to them that if you were playing FOTM, that would have been a plastic army that wouldn't have hurt as much.

decent rules, not overpowered, lots of options to create a fun and varied army.

I'll keep laughing at anyone who calls them overpowered. Theyre really not.

I've always liked small elite armies. I wanted to collect them originally because I thought the GK termies looked extremely cool and I wanted an all terminator army. I went with DA instead because they were plastic and I liked their fluff too. Recently I did pick up a Draigo and a GK termie box to convert into Belial some cool looking sergeants/honor guard.

I may eventually do a small Draigo/paladin list with some dreadknights as that would be a pretty cheap army.

Aren't overpowered compared to whom? I'd argue they're above Dark Eldar and Blood Angels when it comes to competency. They're certainly below IG. SW get a tough time because only a few things in there are so hopelessly broken that everyone takes them. But yea, they're quite extreme too.

Oh hell NO are they above DE

DE absolutely screw GK. Weight of fire, range over GK on essentially everything.

They're below BA as, well, BA can outshoot them. DoA is fairly knackered, but for everything else GK just die...

Just because DE beat GK, doesn't mean that GK are necessarily worse than DE. GK can certainly pose some major problems for DE between psyflemen, fortitude, and shrouding.

I always wanted to run GKs, but when I got into 40k everyone said they weren't fun to play 'cause of codex creep, and all the models were metal (which severely limited my conversion options at the time).

I wanted an army that had a mix of shooting and assault unit.

I ended up making an army based around a Radical Inquisitor.

You see a lot of people posting about it right now as it is new, and a lot of people are trying to figure it out.
Also, all the fluff is new. people have not had time to let the fluff settle and realize that it is not so mad.

71 votes and not a single one for the fluff. LOL!

Anyway, yeah, there are so many GK players for the same reasons there are so many BA and SW players - bandwagoning!!!

The main reason in my opinion is band wagoning. It’s he same band wagoning that occurred when the BA codex came out (where we saw people using Ultramarine models with BA codex rules).

I also think a small part of the reason is that people like using the dex as counts as to represent an elite small numbers MEQ force (before GK, peopled used SW or DA to represent such lists).

Another small contributing factor could also be that since updates are too few and far between with GW, if people see something new there will be temptation to purchase.

But yeah, we don't allow players to field any army from a codex written by Matt Ward- if your playing marines your using the 4th ed codex, demz the rules. ^^
