Hive Guard are really nice (and cheap for what they do), but it seems you already use all 3 elite slots.
I play Eldar and Marines, and the Hive Guard can deal a lot of damage to my tanks (although they struggle with LR) while also being quite tough.

I'm not sure about them being two units. I could make them 1 unit. What do you think? Are they more effective in one unit or two?

"As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentinence it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the deepest recesses of the aliens mind I perceived what I can describe only as an immortal hunger.
We can slay the tyranids on our worlds, blast their fleets from space, grind their armies to torn and ruined fragments. But their hunger? That is beyond our ability to slay."

The Lictors? You can just put both of 'em in one slot, and then deploy them separately (they don't have to "stick together" when deployed). That'll give you another Elites slot for something good!

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

What about unit coherency??

Personally I've never found Lictors to be good. I see the point of your list though. I would drop the Lictors for 1 unit of 2 Hive Guard. I would also drop tour unit of 20 gaunts for another unit of 2 Hive Guard. Hive Guards are needed against just about every army these days since mech is so popular. If you can find the points I'd put the zoanthropes in a spore too.

Most people say that lictors arn't worth it. Why?

Probably because they're a 3 wound T4 model that is meant for close combat but can't assault the turn it arrives from reserves.

They operate independently. Meaning, they don't have to maintain coherency.

Sweet! But can't they infiltrate?

The problem with lictors is that they occupy the very important elite slot. Hive guards n zoanthropes are a little more important for making up the fire power the rest of the army lacks. Lictors also don't confer their reserve bonus til the turn AFTER they come into play AND they aren't guarenteed to come in on the turn you need them, which if that happens it ruins the whole plan of your army.

I would recomend that you get some venomthropes. From my past experience they will give cover and that will help alot with your hormogaunts.

I think you're getting confused with the 4th edition Lictor rules. In the current edition there is nothing that says they are able to operate independantly.

Lictors aren't great. Deathleaper is, cough up 15 Points a Chuck him in.

He can't really be killed and you can use him too get your Carnifexs anyway.

Moving up to 2,000 points ...

Flyrat is only BS3, so I would go for the devourers instead.

Elites? Give those zoeys a spore too. I would then go 2*2 hive guard for the other 2 elite slots - you do need some reliable anti-armour. Single lictors at 2,000 points won't get to see the next turn after arriving on the board.

Stealers I would give them toxin sacs. Not sure on the hormogaunts as well - too similar. Prefer a tervigon and termies in this slot.

Trygon should have AG.

If you have the points get a prime and attach him to the hive gaurd.

lol. I added up this list a second time and this time with a calculator. It's 1,915 not counting the brood of 20 hermagaunts or the 2 Lictors. I think I will have to raise the points to 2,500. lol.
I guess this means making a new-ish list. I'll get on that.

Seeing as you already have Hive Comander on your Tyrant and a unit of Termagants, I always enjoy taking a Tervigon in the Troops slot if I can spare the points. It's up to you how you outfit it but I find that the prospect of an outflanking Tervigon really throws my opponent off. It can get to the back lines really quickly and spawn to take their objective...or just sit on it itself. A T6 W6 MC appearing behind your lines is never fun, especially as your Tyrant and Trygon should should be getting there, if not in CC by the time the Tervigon shows.

Tyranids : 3000pts

If you're gonna go with CC Carnifexes, you might wanna consider giving them crushing claws. I can't speak for Tau, Necrons or Eldar, but I belive just about everything in the Chaos and Wolves codex has more than 3 initiative, so the battering ram ability wont mean much against them, get some extra attacks instead.

Have to echo ruminator when it comes to the stealers and hormagants, toxin sac is great on these. I would consider dropping the termagant pod, since that bomb is most effective with 20 gants.

I'm thinking of taking one unit of gargoyles out. I'm still confused on what to take for troop choices. I'm not sure that ten geanstealers in a unit will be enough to take on a more powerful assult unit, but we'll see. Are hermagaunts a good idea? It seems like there won't be enough of them left to do any good by the time they get into combat. At the same time, if I use termagaunts they will die if they get into combat. Not a bad thing particulary, but then there's no one to get objectives. What do you guys think? What troops should I take? What about Warriors?
