Subject: Finecast predicts the next army release....?

So it seems one army that appears to be a contender for the next army release was left out of the new Finecast line. After TK was confirmed the rumors had it narrowed down to 2-3 next options those are Bretonnia, Wood Elves and Ogre Kingdoms. Ogre Kingdoms is completely absent from Finecast, does this absence mean that they are currently working on new models and molds for a new release. My guess is absolutely. At first I thought maybe due to the bigger models Finecast was not an option but they do have some larger Finecast models like Treeman, Varghulf, Shaggot, Kroq-Gar and various Orcs and Goblins and WoC that are on the larger size.

The common rumor is Ogres are the next fantasy release, following Storm of Magic this summer (slotted for October).

All signs point to Ogres as the next book. Good choice IMO. Though poor wood elves are the ones in dire need of an (almost) complete overhaul.
On a side note, there has been an absence of Necron Finecast as well. Hint, hint.....

I find it hilarious they end up trying to keep secret and enact all sorts of rules at GW to keep the cat in the bag and then let it slip themselves due to their new finecast holes in its product range . Irony much?

I think in normal circumstances it would typically come as a 'surprise'. But the finecast thing really didn't make it a secret at all. Companies that have strict 'silence' policies give me massive lol's (I'm looking at you, Blizzard, Apple, and GW). Someone will figure it out anyways and when it's all said and done your product will still get out there. It's like they think every day is suppose to be christmas or something....

Well mostly it's common sense. There are smarter people then myself out there that come with ideas sometimes better then these overpaid think tanks at these companies. Apple is good but no camera on the ipad 1st gen? Any kind of product testing would lead one to think the obvious, it's like the PSP without the right analog stick. Lets face it metal models suck, I know people who did not buy the more expensive metal model to convert and green stuff plastic models.

INdeed, NDAs (Non Disclosure Agreements) are one of the most common constracts employees sign when they are working with consumer products. Hell, you agree to an NDA when you play a video game closed beta. Most people just don't realize they're under an NDA in a closed video game beta though. 'Oh, another EULA, yeah, I agree, let me play this game early dammit!'.
While it seems funny to you, companies don't like detailed leaks of their next big thing, which other competing companies can grab and use to their advantage. GW's are notriously strict and they take this kind of stuff seriously.

SInce GW isn't going to add any new 40k or fantasy armies we should be able to call the next codex just by looking at their ages.
The days when there might be something exciting and new coming are seemingly over.

Oh I totally understand why they do it but, really, unless it's something absolutely mind-blowing or something that truly hasn't been done before in their respective industries then I honestly don't see the point. When has Blizzard EVER done something original? All they do is take a certain genre (MMO, RTS, Hack and Slash) and do it better than anyone else. The same can be said for GW and Apple.
Oh there's a new army book on the horizon? Wow what a surprise! Of course there's always a new book on the horizon. It's how they continue to make money. Keeping it under wraps is fine and all, but why get all upset about it if it gets out earlier than you anticipated?
All these projects that are so 'top-secret' always turn out to be more of the same. Or something with minor improvements

Well I think it just comes down to time and money and they've hit their limit. IMO they should dump LoTR and maybe some Space Marine factions.

There's a lot of great reasons. People post on this forum all the time about alternative miniatures. Mantic or whatever. That's a direct competitor to GW. If they leak out details of the next book, say, WE are getting some Wussy Dancer models, it gives competitors a chance to model and get that into their product line. Then when GW releases, they have competition at day 1. As it is, any new models that come out, GW has a monopoly until competitors can take a look at them and get them in their product stream. Even if it's a few months, that's a few months where you got no alternatives, and thus pure profit.
The time and expense companies spend in building this stuff makes them want to recoup that, obviously. They're not going for christmas so much as trying to stay ahead of their competitors. You can do a Wiki search on products like this. Coke Zero was introduced in 2006, Diet Pepsi Max 2007. Gillette and Schick razors. Etc. Getting to market first is huge. Even knowing your competitor is working on an idea is huge. Apple is making a touch-screen? Hmm, maybe we should look into that.
If I was a model maker, I might think about creating some ogre models. At the very least, getting some drawings and the pipeline ready for increased-sized figurines. If it saves you a month, that's still money.

I'd be all for Ogres. One of the more different armies out there, which makes their (theoretical) 8th edition book especially intriguing. How they price monstrous infantry, pick which 8 items stay, and so forth. I'd be all for seeing that soonly!

Thunder Mace, Bull Gut, Spangle Shard, GreyBack Pelt, Halfling Cook Book, and Cannibal totem.
+2 new items is my bet.
It's not the items I want, but I think it's the most Ogre-esk items.

The most obvious example being video game consoles. PS2 dominated the last generation. Xbox 360 releases earlier then PS3 and dominates the current generation. There are other factors but they made a good move releasing early.
