YES! I think I've finally nailed a colour scheme. I'm really proud of this mini - it took me the best part of an evenings work.
Fiddly bow string, arrow rest, foliage, highlighting etc. But I really like the way it turned out and I daresay I'll use these colours for the rest of my force

I've tried reds/oranges and the traditional green WE's but this is the set of colours that I've been happiest with. Edit: The others are currently sitting in a cup of paint stripper

Any hints and tips greatly appreciated. This was a 'trial' mini so highlighting etc will be neater in the future

I'm no master painter, so I have no hints or tips, but I wanted to say this looks great! I like your color selection, as many of the autumnal paint jobs I have seen have been too garishly bright IMHO.

Hi

Thanks for your comments Yeah as I said I went off the stereotypical 'green' WE after a few minis, and I tried reddish-orange but again that was too bright.

I'm happy with the above results I'm going to paint GG until I get used to it then move onto the more specialised units once I've got my standard up.

Looking at the pics I know I have to thin down my elf skintone a bit...his legs look liek they have cellulite lol

I forgot to mention how much I like your bases as well, my wood elves are more "deep forest" so muted greens and browns . . . but like I said I am hardly an expert painter & a worse photographer so mine are not on Dakka. Best of luck and I will keep an eye on your results.

Those are very well done you should be proud. My girlfriend and I are starting a wood elves army and were going to go with a cherry blossome theme. I never thought of actually notching and arrow in a model. Props

Lost in Australia, somewhere.

I really like this scheme, you should definitely do a tutorial on it some time.

Thanks for your comments guys - but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that my original inspiration was from Anardakil's Autumn WE (see Asrai.org).

She's got a tutorial on there that I've modified to suit slightly. I'm happy to draft one up, I'll post it sometime

Thanks,

NC.

LOVE it I also have some wood elves but went with the green because I wanted them to fit into my warhammer board that i'm making which is lush green woodland so I went with the greens and browns. like I said GREAT WORK!

I'll put up a picture sometime of the technique. It's very easy though. As long as you have access to a garden or some trees that is!

Basically I went foraging and got a tub of suitably coloured leaves/seeds, rolled a few around in my hands to break them up then just put some glue on the base and dip them in the broken shards of leaf! Easy as pie and very effective, cheap basing

I'm sure Orion would approve of my ways haha.

Excellent choice of colors. For some reason when ever I think of woods i envision various browns with touches of green instead of going for all-green color blast.

Your scheme is actually very similar to the general tones i use for my Circle of Orboros army

This looks great can't wait to see the unit complete, I too was bored of the green WE look and am going for an autumn theme, I am no way able to paint to a standard such as yours and I draw a lot of inspiration from seeing guys like this,

Keep up the good work and thanks for pointing out the Asrai article
