So I am just curious as to who here on Dakka plays Imperial Guard and uses Cadian's as their basis.
So this forum is going to be a sound off on Cadian armies (from Cadia!).
*Regimental number/ nickname
* colour scheme?
*points
*stengths
*commander?
*favourite mdels/units?
i'll start it off.
Ad Yeah: 62nd Cadian 'Death Storm' Infantry Regiment
* Points:
2250 point maximum (so far)
* colour scheme:
Traditional Yellow clothing & green flak armour
* Strengths
-30 man infantry blob from my 2nd platoon (plasma's, 2x grenade launchers),
-Catachan modelled Cadian Hardened Veteran forward sentries unit (autocannon, melta, grenade,)
-leman russ Executioner from 63rd Cadian Armoured.
-Lascannon Heavy weapons squad (believe it or not)
* Commander:
Colonel Tolkien Blacksire and Major Michael Airfex
* Favourites:
-entire 2nd platoon troop choice (modelled for one of my stories and quite strong to dont mean to bragg!!!)
-Catachan modelled Cadian Hardened Veteran forward sentries unit
-Cadian modelled Veteran squad (chimera)
-Half complete infantry squad (custom squad)
-Guardsmen Jackson (needs a different name) (marbo) (Hardened Veteran -> originally from my catachan modelled squad)
So yeah thats mine
As before, just curious as to who uses cadians
dont have to put all the details

Hellstorm 171st
Dark grey armour, with khaki clothing.
The regiments manpower is unknown, due to it's recent ''betrayal'' against the Imperium.
The guardsmen of the 171st are specialized with long and short ranged combat, ambushes and tank warfare
Regiment commander KIA in the second war for Helstor. Second in command Senior Officer Hecht.
Most notable guardsmen:
Friedrich: Hijacked a Tau hammerhead gravity tank, firing it at the Shas'O depleting the strike forces morale.
Fleischer: Blew the Ethereals head clean off with his modifyed lasgun, changing the tide on the battlefield
Bauer -KIA- : Charged the overwhelming enemy with his meltagun, exploding it's core, and destroying the Command Tank (Land Raider Crusader)
Army Fluff:
The abhumans of Helstor II are lucky; lucky in the way that a cockroach is stepped on but still alive. With a dying sun destroying their planet and the Ordo Hereticus directing Imperial forces to exterminate them, the remaining denizens of Helstor II consider themselves very fortunate indeed to still be alive.
Before the star Helstor started flickering like a wild candle dancing in a ragged breeze back, Helstor II was a world of beauty. With its sister planet Helstor I, these twin planets were abundant in rich soil, temperate climate, and ardent support of the Emperor. Each cycle, millions of citizens from the twin planets would join the Hellstorm Regiments, which numbered in the hundreds, and would join other infamous Imperial Guard units such as the Cadians (whom they shared an affinity for and adopted the war gear of) in defense of the Imperium. Hailed as an example of Imperial administration comparable to the domain of Ultramar, Helstorians were thrilled to become host to a new Chapter of Space Marines known as the Ardent Flamekeepers after the last founding. At its height, the Helstor system boasted a population of over 30 billion and was fast on its way to becoming a shining jewel of Imperial might.
Then the Helstor star started to die.
At first, it flickered. This caused severe climate changes to both planets as Helstor II became barely habitable. Billions died as the pleas for aid of the Imperial Governor were lost in the Administratum on Holy Terra. The once proud supporters of the Emperor began to turn on one another as foodstuffs became scarce. The Ardent Flamekeepers did their best to preserve peace as food riots erupted, but strained as they were in duties on multiple warfronts, the skeleton force of Space Marines was barely able to contain the revolt.
When the solar storms from Helstor erupted, Helstor I caught the brunt of the damage. Entire oceans of water and cities of men boiled away in an instant. The atmosphere was stripped from the planet, and all the inhabitants, including the fortress monastery of the Ardent Flamekeepers were incinerated or vaporized by cosmic radiation. Helstor I became a husk world, dead in everything but the devastation that was wrought. Helstor II itself barely survived the resultant ruination. The atmosphere became choked with the radiation pollutants of the Helstor star. Sulfuric rain pelted the unwary masses, and millions more died as their bodies were rotted away by the poisonous and acidic gases that started choking the valleys and cities. All seemed lost as the decimated Space Marines and the thinly stretched Helstor regiments huddled with the masses in the hive cities to await the final death knell of their doomed existence.
A miracle arrived in the form of an apparent Imperial vanguard heralded by the Magos Biologis Ferin Invericus. With his technological assistance, he claimed to be able to adapt the surviving humans of Helstor II to not only resist the climate changes, but to thrive in them as well. The remaining Space Marines, the de facto rulers of the planet since the original Imperial Governor and Chapter Master had died in Helstor I's death, reluctantly agreed, and provided at Invericus' assistance their gene seed in order to help adapt the surviving populace.
After a cycle of experimental genetic work wherein millions more of the citizenry died to famine, disease, and poison, and countless others were tested, dissected, and warped by Invericus, the Magos Biologis finally unveiled the fruits of his work: an injected serum that reconstituted the respiratory track and epidermal resistance of the victim to poisonous gases, much like the enhanced superhuman qualities of a regular Space Marine.
Quickly spreading his miracle cure to the thankful, remaining masses, Invericus left the Helstor system, with none the wiser that the entire populace had become victims of the disguised Fabius Bile, the Chaos Space Marine known for his vile and contemptible mutation experiments on mankind.
Within less than a cycle, Fabius' work came to fruition. Segments of the populace started going mad, crazily attacking anything that moved. Helstor regiments quickly put down those that were stricken, but the mutations became worse. Hordes of monsters began roaming the streets as people with weak constitutions failed to adapt to the mutating serum they were previously administered. Worse, Fabius had also begun experiments on the local fauna that survived in the stunted wilds of Helstor II. Packs of thickly armored bipedal lizards known as dragonthoropes began joined the mutated abominations as they roamed freely dealing carnage to those who were unprotected. Survivors quickly filled the streets in anger and protest, as they now rightly concluded that their savior had also turned them into monsters.
And at the worst time, the Imperium finally answered the calls of distress in the form of a true Magos Biologis and a regiment of Imperial Guards carrying supplies and munitions to the beleaguered people of Helstor II.
What they found was a fractured populace that now united in hatred of the Imperium. The remaining Ardent Flamekeepers, who had now turned bitter and furious at their own weakness and plight of the people they were sworn to protect, led the remaining Helstor regiments in a massacre of the Imperial representative and most of his retinue.
The few guards who survived the onslaught boarded their ships and fled the system, intent on reported the uprising of a heretical Space Marine chapter and a renegade populace.
The army and people of Helstor II were exhausted and moribund. In reflection, they realized their culpability in being duped by Fabius Bile and their actions against Imperial officials. Slowly, they also awakened to the realization that they were also not fully human anymore. The Imperium would consider them second-class abhumans at best and heretical mutants at worst.
But any hope of salvation was quickly dashed as the Imperium quickly responded to the supposed uprising on Helstor by sending a Mission of Adepta Sororitas and ten Imperial regiments supporting the Ordo Hereticus to eradicate and cleanse the populace.
In preparation of their arrival, the Ardent Flamekeepers consolidated the Helstor army into the largest remaining regiment of veteran soldiers still active on the planet, the Hellstor 171st. A battle-hardened core of warriors, their greatest asset was the vast quantity of tanks and transports that made them efficient heavy support elements of any battle they joined. With their experience coupled with the last remaining reserves, Helstor II bitterly hunkered down for a war in which they knew extermination would be the result if they lost. The battle lines became drawn as the Imperial Navy drop ships unloaded their militant cargo upon the scarred world and prepared to face the deviant Ardent Flamekeepers and their heretical support army.
As a final and brutal reminder of the event that caused their current situation, the Helstor star erupted one last time in a searing seizure of energy in the form of a gigantic solar flare. While too far away for Helstor Ii to be affected, Helstor I was engulfed by the gigantic explosion and subsequently torn apart.
The flaming debris of the planet scattered across the star system, pelting Helstor II in an apocalyptic wave of meteors that eradicated large swaths of both the Ordo Hereticus and to a lesser extent the more apocalypse-experienced Helstor 171st regiment.
In joking defiance to the event, the Helstorians fittingly renamed their planet Hellstorm and subsequently called their sole surviving regiment the Hellstorm 171st. Further, they also saw one sole benefit of the new meteoric conditions of their planet; the forces they faced were now reduced to a third of their original size, and the Imperial Navy that supported them was virtually eliminated in the first wave of planetary chunks that immolated and destroyed their best and largest space crafts.
But the Adepta Sororitas was hardly defeated. Rallying their surviving soldiers, they then began the Battle of Hellstorm against the Ardent Flamekeepers and the Hellstorm 171st on a battlefield that knew the blood of billions, choked the life out of the unprepared with poisonous gases, and felt the rhythmic beat of asteroids that incessantly drummed the once proud planet.

How? Ratlings are Strength 2, and Carnifexes are T6. It's impossible for them to even wound them in combat.

We gave them furious charge as a house rule, because they lived through the lictor behind them (who unfortunately killed my lord commisar).
S3 can wound T6... I think
My ratlings were however killed by the genestealers, without killing one of the 4 armed tyranids.

Every Guard player has Cadians somewhere...
I for example, have a grand total of 10 shotgun Cadians that I use as a kill team as part of my Cadian 3rd regiment attached to my other guard regiments.

The Solar 401st.
Orange armour plates, grey tunics, brown boots and leather parts.
10k points roughly (Though mixed with other I.G regmiment types. the Solar are about 4.5k themselves
Their strength is being lucky and being credited for actually being a crack unit.
actually the entire army is my favourite unit, they all have a part ofthe history.
finally:
The plot for my guard from their creation 31/05/10 (Thats when I began painting them I believe)
'From nothing to something then back and then forward again' a guards story.
31st May, sometime during the 41st Millennium, an order to raise a new fighting unit on the planet Solarius is received from the Munitorium. The order is received and recruiting for the command structure beings.
The two company commanders and at the time supreme commander were all taken from the local PDF forces leaving much grumbling about reorganisation and who would fill in the paper work for these transfers.
Given some old ‘gruff’ pattern Missile launchers, 3 ‘woof’ pattern Leman Russes which had seen action before and had definitely had better days, two ‘Lucifer’ pattern sentinels with missile launchers and a number of chimeras from assorted sources, the new high command for the regiment has its work cut out it seems.
The new high commander Zeff ‘Whitebeard’ Tobams steps up and takes to organising the creation with all due haste, within 2 months the creation of the 1st Solar is formed and in training... and none too soon. Though newly created and only being supplied with second tier equipment the small company take on an invasion force of Tyranids on their home world. Managing to hold them to a stalemate before reinforcements can come to their aid.
The missile teams although inaccurate through the battle are hailed for their first round of firing which takes a Carnifex down before it can even take a step forward after bellowing out a roar of challenge. Damage is moderately light but the sentinel walkers and leman russes are badly damaged, some from getting them stuck in the rivers, which is left out of White beards reports.
The Imperial high command for the sector is still unimpressed with the battle claiming the nids in their weakened state and without the more powerful organisms should have been easily dispatched by the regiment. Platoon commander Gus keev is reprimanded for speaking out of turn about ‘his own’ opinions of how his men fared and a commissar is issued to join the regiment only after bartering from white beard saves Gus from having to be shot by his own hand at the High commands insistence.
Soon after the regiment is called to defend a neighbouring planet from what is said to be a joint force of Eldar and space marines. Confusion reigns before Whitebeard can slap some sense into the company, but thankfully the regiments Commissar arrives on route introducing himself as Halk Swistski. Morale is soon restored and discipline enforced with under a clips worth of bolt rounds.
The fight is brutal and while the regiment still cannot accept the fact that marines are indeed firing on them they manage to take them mostly down quickly before an Eldar push puts them on the back foot and another stalemate is achieved before the more professional regiments step in. Upon inspection though it seems it as all Eldar trickery as the supposed marines were actually eldar guardians in image flickering suits intended to turn the population against the Imperium by making them think its own defenders had turned on them with the Eldar’s help.
Whitebeard’s discovery is thanked by the high command, but public praise goes to the high command of the operation for this discovery... White beard is last seen walking into his quarters muttering with a bottle of whiskey (Bruichladdich 21year old, a good bottle to drink when feeling aggressive or grumpy and needing to fuel it) along with his company commanders Gus and the lesser known Frank winthow.
Things take an interesting turn though when the unit is called into combat practise with none other than the Space Wolves... and win with tactical planning by Whitebeard and a devastating right flank charge by Gus’s platoon and his fast becoming veterans under the leadership of Sgt Black Roas which sends the wolves reeling.
The Leman Russes account for over 20 wolves along with their Rune priest who claims he is glad that their on his side and even recommends them for new kit. Before leaving another combat practise is setup with the Wolves for the near future.
Fate works in weird ways White beard must be thinking as the Munitorium supply ship lands and instead of the battered old kit he is expecting, brand new hydra flak tanks, Manticore missile launchers, more chimeras (These ones have all their pieces it is confirmed by the unit’s engineers), medusas, new autocannons for the heavy weapons teams, some Leman russ variants and even two of the new Vendetta gunships. Gus is heard moaning lovingly before being reprimanded by the Commissars.
Overcome with joy at his units new toys White beard throws his command staff into recruiting and training of his men before the next combat practise comes around, determined to show his units worth the new toys.
The big day comes and the guard manages to defeat the Wolves after a month of countryside warfare. An exhausted White beard is congratulated by the wolf commander and the unit finds its reputation rising with more recruits desperate to join this ‘up and coming’ unit.
What the wolf commander doesn’t tell white beard or the public though is that they staged the defeat as their intentions was to train the regiment to work in hardened and harsh conditions with no rest for days on end... the intention seems to have paid off as most of the company is now upgraded to veteran status and Gus announces that there was one more toy on that resupply shuttle which is a pallet of plasma guns and Meltaguns. The unit celebrates by blowing up the target range with over keen plasma volunteers and Melta fanatics keen to learn their new guns.
Before long the nids are back but this time the regiment is pleased to learn they’ve received some of the experimental Psyker battle squads to help their cause (In reality the squads were on a stopover before the nids arrived and couldn’t leave until they’d gone... so they had no choice but to help out).
The nids are halted in their tracks and pummelled by the new guns of the unit.
The Psyker squads, so impressed by the units actions declares they’re attaching their support to the Solar 1st... which sadly after all the battle losses is promptly in need of a recruiting drive again and becomes the solar 401th.
Whitebeard realises running the regiment and fighting in the front lines is too much for him now and steps to the side allowing two new promising company commanders to take over the on field command while he deals with the overall tactical decisions.
Tiff Guttingsam and Gett Veriak take up their roles with pleasure, with their first act of command diving into the company’s stores to find themselves new toys ‘to play with’ as they call it, both emerge with relic plasma pistols which were overlooked, or more likely hidden by White beard for the fear of how stupid his officers would act if they found them.
With a quiet period the unit does two more combat practises with the wolves again winning both (But still failing to see the wolves were training them each time).
This quiet period does not last as the Tyranids once again appear on Tiffion IV close by and the unit is sent t deal with the threat, disabling then ruining the nid offensive. But before they can even relax a trap is sprung and the dark Eldar appear. Battling fierce opposition the unit rearguards it fallback before counter pushing and taking the Dark Eldar by surprise before wiping the remaining forces out as they flee for the Warp portal.
Badly beat up the unit is rotated back to recruitment where they engage another guard unit in combat practises. They lose which leads to white beard again disappearing into his quarters, a new bottle of whiskey, but the same old reprobate platoon commanders following.
Things go for bad to worse as the unit only manages to hold back 1 tau incursion and is pushed back from another after an emergency redeploy to the nearby Wasters system. The Unit does redeem itself with a solid destruction of a chaos force which emerges near their staging area, but due to lack of men and machinery the unit is rotated back to recruitment and rebuilding for the second day of offence.
With the news circulating that the unit is under strength other guard units issue the challenge hoping to gain a little fame by beating the up and coming Solar 401th. What they don’t know (And neither does the unit until it happens) is that White beard has been given combat command of a Catachan unit the 909th who initially are assumed to be ruffians... that is until they reval that they also have some manticores, vendettas and other shiny toys.
The two units bond over many kegs of ‘Emperor’s finest - but don’t tell the marines that’ beer and a solid relationship is born. Some now even say that old whitebeard could rival The famous Creed with his tactical plans (As of yet though this has not come to light, but the general public think old White beard would have his work cut out for him... all bar the Solar’s home planet population which reckon Creed wouldn’t stand a chance)
2 years later the unit comes back into the front lines in a fight Vs some Eldar. Catching them by surprise as it seems they’d expected space marines to retaliate and not the guard they take apart their forces before withdrawing to a distress call on a nearby planet to put down a Necron appearance.
The fight goes well with the new setup and soon the vendettas are screaming around the flanks with the mechanised troops and artillery pounding the foes. White beard lights up a Cuban in smugness at the sight of his two units working so well together.
With this new found reputation Crimson Fists travelling through the system make a stop for combat training with the regiment. Sadly for them they under estimate the guard and were promptly seen off the field of battle. But when questioned after wards Pedro Kantar makes remarks with a sly glint in his eye referencing the Space Wolves training in the past... rumours spread that the unit has caught the eye of the marine chapters due to their heroic fighting style called ‘Their over there’ bomb the Frakk out of them while the Vendettas race up and finish them off before we get a cuppa’. Whether or not this will make it into the guardsman’s primer is still to be seen, but high command hints it’s not likely.
With the somewhat up and down reputation and combat record of the unit it is a shock when an another Imperial Lander appears dropping off a Emperor’s fist Leman Russ tank company from the 123 Tallaran armoured unit. Eyes turn to Whitebeard who can be seen leaning back in his command chair with a large Cuban lent to one side a smug grin on the other before muttering ‘I love when a plan comes together’.
Rumours promptly circulate that White beard’s been in talks with the Valhallan units close by who are rumoured to have some toys of their own, and also the mordian artillery stationed on a nearby world. The fighting men of the Catachan 909th and Solar 401st sigh and do their duty... bonding over some of the Emperor’s finest with the new boys.
With all the good fortune the regiment is receiving they almost fail to get their act together as a large Tyranid swarm bursts out of the clouds and even the bushes around them, but proving that the steel of their tanks keeps them safe the combined force sees off the incursion with only minor bruises. The report fails to mention very few of the actual soldiers got out to fire, preferring to huddle inside the tanks taking pot-shots... nether less the victory sees them again in the spot light.
With the spotlight now firmly on them, a larger force is mustered to combat Necrons on a nearby planet, Battle is started when the guard almost walk right up to the Necrons in a dawn battle, but before the slower Necrons can retaliate the guard starts its offensive catching them between a Hydra and a Vendetta, the fight is long and hard but eventually the guard come out ahead and the Necrons deciding the planet's no longer worth their wrath phase out.
Meanwhile a small force is sent to check out messages from another planet's Astropath about Eldar infiltrators. This of course proves to be the usual underestimated planetary Governor Message and battle is joined against a larger than expected force of Eldar including some of their floating tanks. Thankfully some quick targeting by the Manticore Drivers sees off the immediate dangers and with the Vendettas cleaning the right flank the troops can rumble forward and mop up. Some escape though and the unit puts back a message to command that they could return in larger force, as the webway portals allowing Eldar movements are still unaccounted for. An inquiry is started about how the Eldar managed to land on the planet unnoticed din the first place. Commissar Frank Winthow is dispatched to discuss imperial faith and doing your duty to the Planet’s ruling caste.
Gus acting on instinct as he calls it, but in reality it is White Beard telling him to do so, sends reinforcements along with some of the Emperor’s finest to reward the boys on a job well done. Meanwhile White Beard goes back to his cards, already owning half of his platoon commander’s wages.
The regiment is once again called into battle by a crusading marine force for some well needed practise after so many 'bonding sessions' by the companies. They are so hung voer they arrive late rumbling up in their transports while the drunken Vendetta Pilots overshoot the meeting area and have to flank back, but the marines ever faithful to the imperium of man assume the guard have a solid battleplan meant to throw them offguard and engage, realising thhis the guard commander gives the orders to pretend they meant this all along and get stuck in...
Things go well after Khan on his bike makes the command squad make one of the command squads submit, and the guard pour on the pressue and manage to take almost all the marines out of duty. Highly Impressed by this show of emperor's duty (In reality the guys were so hung over they decided they needed to blitz the marines before they fully sobered up) and put in a formal complement to the level of their fighting prowless... this alone seals the deal and the Valhallans and Mordians instantly sign up to the company with their smaller forces. Upon seeing the extra tanks and vehicles and man power landing at main base Gett smirks and mumble something about that crafty old bastard.
Sadly before the guard force can leave the world they are set upon by tyranids dropping straight out of the sky, they put up a solid fight but are denied by time restraints to put the nids to fight and a general withdrawal is called, the force commander furious that he is denied a full chance to bring the nids to justice.
To be continued...

Your background story is pretty good too, but the writing type changes in the middle of the story, from past to present.

Regimental number/ nickname
Asgard 501st Mechanized Armor Division
brief fluff
The Asgard 501st originally was an all female regiment but was combined with a male regiment since both had taken heavy losses during the battle of Bolrat. Hence has a large number of Veterans. They name their vehicles after Norse Gods hence the Asgard 501st. I actually have a more complete history written at home I can post later.
colour scheme
Vehicles: Grey for city fighting. (this was originally going for a UN peacekeeper look which have grey vehicles) Most have rusting and battle damage from being in service for a long time.
Infantry: white armor with khaki clothing. (originally was going for a UN peacekeeper look but the blue helmets looked really dumb so I changed it to white)
points
Most commonly 1850 and 2000 these days since thats what tournaments around me are run at. Sometimes 1750. Also a Warhound Titan and enough stuff for 5k points in Apoc.
Strengths
Lots of Mechanized, Melta, Las cannons, and Multilasers/flamers with some Str 10 Pie plates.
commander?
Company Commander Anna Udinov
Platoon Commander Ga-rei-him (counts as Alrahim)
favourite models/units?
Vendettas "Lenneth", "Hirst" and "Silmeria"
Manticores "Freya" and "Frei"
Hydra "Uller"

Mine are in the color scheme of the 8th Cadian. Because they were on the cover of Dawn of War:Winter Assault and that's what got me into 40k in the first place.
