The civilian landcruiser (civilian car) came to a whirring stop in front of a small concrete apartment complex spouting bursts of smoke out of the six ports surrounding the front door. The captain of the 10th Company of the new Chapter - the Arms of Corax - shifted in his seat, "This is the place." The two men emerged from their cruiser and paced over to the door on the bustling street. Bystanders stared at the armored man and the rather large man with a large amount of facial hair, the latter pinching his cap beneath his greasy fingers, fumbling over the aquila insignia embedded onto the moist cloth of said cap.

Thk thk thk..

The scuffling sound of small feet followed by the pitter-patter of ones even smaller came from the door. A small and stout woman answered, her unkempt hair flailing about the small entrance, "Oh my.." she peered up at the men towering above her. A whimper shifted her gaze to the rather short boy sitting by her side who in turn tugged at her dress and wrapped his short arms around her thick thigh. "Excuse me, how may I help you?"

The round man shifted his weight from foot to foot and fixed his gaze contentedly at the concrete and it's randomized patterns below his thick boots. When he did not answer Captain Sur elbowed the man in his ribs. The stout woman's pondering stare shifted between the two.

"Ma'am, we're here to take your child." A storm of subtle movements took place. A few passerby in the street halted and gazed over, the child cocked his head and looked up at his mother, his mother looked down at him, a young woman poked her head out of the kitchen, boiling broth spilling in the process. The Captain straightened. "Do not refuse and there will be no problems, it is in the name of the Emperor.

Captain Sur gazed over his shoulder at the boy seated backwards, staring at his mother weeping into his sisters shoulder through the rearward windshield. The boy stifled back tears; he was going to be a soldier. Despite his young age, he felt as though he was from one of Mommy's stories about the Emperor's servants, destined to fight for the rest of his days and he was proud.

He slouched back into his seat, half pouting, and slowly dozed off into dreams of soldiers and his mother.

Sur turned back to face the street and looked at Corporal Tal who was sweating nervously. Placing an empathetic hand on his shoulder, Sur reminded him of his duty. Tal pulled at a piece of armor and drove on.
