Do you know how these two items are related?

I'm feeling old.

Although the link I followed to get their suggested you would have to be over 40 to get the reference, I think it should be more like 30.

Interestingly, my sister, born 8 years after me, couldn't understand how the two were related. Just shows how fast technology changes.

Or less, you could still get cassettes within the last decade easily so even those barely into their twenties should know what they are I think.

I'm not sad to see the last of cassettes. In my experience the cassette player was the first part to go in every hi-fi we ever owned as a family, good or poor quality regardless. My parents have been through a couple since I was young, both my sister and I had own own cheap ones. Probably more than half a dozen had the tape player pack up first while the rest lasted years. Then they would eat tapes, the one in the car was good for that, it didn't mind 60 minutes tapes, but often would eat 90 minutes tapes and you ended up having to pull the spaghetti like contents out of the dashboard.

Sure. You write your girlfriends name on her mixed tape and when you made it.

"Jenny, summer of 84" and so on.

Did I get it right?

No.

A hexagonal cross-section pencil is the best tool for hand winding a cassette where the tape has come loose.

I'm sure Jenny was more trouble than she was worth.

The cool thing about tape players is that they usually had a record option. It took a while for writeable CDs (and more importantly, rewritable CDs) to become widespread.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Exactly. Writing summer of X is incriminating and can be held against you by a court of Future GF/Wife.

Just write summer of X...you'll know...

My old '93 Caravan had a tape player that only started to go just as I was about to let her go. I had quite the tape collection stocked in the tape compartment. Thats right, it had a compartment meant for tape storage. I miss some of those tapes.

I'm 16, and I used to listen to my Ricky Martin tapes on a rinky dink boombox and have to rewind the damned thing to "Livin la Vida Loca", as that is the only good Ricky Martin song.

I'm 17 and I got it in about 3 seconds, because that was how long it took for my computer to load the second image.

Besides, date of birth doesn't necessarily dictate what technology you used when you were younger, I'm 17 and my first games console was a SEGA MegaDrive with Sonic The Hedgehog..
