Plasmaguns. Basically, any high strength weapon, really. The avatar only has a 4+ I save and a 3+ armor save. His toughness 6 makes him resilient to bolters, so special weapons or heavies are needed.

You need to give your grey knight squads at least 1 thunderhammer.

Ignore the Avatar until it gets close to your lines, then charge it with GK. Psychout grenades + preferred enemy deamons + wounding deamons on a 4+=dead avatar.

Just kill the Farseer that's keeping him fortuned, then pile wounds on him and he'll fail enough eventually.

Halberds plus Force Weapons should give you a good chance, that or Daemonhammers. Bosh.

I would have suspected GKs to eat him. I recommend using lascannons and plasmaguns on him. Maybe if you have a rifleman Dread, now would be the time to use it.

Is he using the Phoenix court of Khaine in this apocalypse game to get his Avatar? If he is then he will be immune to Melta, Flamer/Heavy Flamer, and Plasma weapons. If not, he will just be immune to Melta, and Flamer/Heavy Flamer weaponry.

Seriously? You play Grey Knights. Purifiers can deal with literally any threat in 40k through a combination of Hammerhand, Cleansing Flame, and Force Weapons.

Force weapon him and he's dead.

Were the GK squads just Strike Squads? Paladins/Purifiers/Terminators should have trounced him...

Does his Daemon rule not give him EW? If not, Force Weapon will make short work of him.

Add in a squad of ten sternguard veterans (it is apoc, bring in any marine army) in a drop pod and have them all shoot him with poisoned shots. Even better, have 8 of them and include Captain Lysander so they get re-rolls on failed rolls to hit. He should collapse under that rate of fire with ease. He only has a 3+ armor (I think) with a 4+ invul. He'll die easy. That squad will run you 200, plus Lysander who is a tank in his own right, plus a drop pod. Worthy investment which will make opponents think twice about charging that unit.

I don't like Lysander. He tarpitted 5 Meganobz and a Burna Mek in Mega Armour for about 4 rounds. They got the charge off on him.

Actually, I just don't like Storm Shields.

Seriously. The avatar is a demon without eternal warrior. Pretty much any GK squad should make short work of him, even if he is fortuned. (this is why I'm not taking him any more)

Killed him with nothing more than vanilla csm before. Multi charged the avatar and storm guardians, slaughtered the guardians in cc, avatar didn't do enough wounds to offset the massive loss in combat res, and both the surviving guardians and avatar went pop from fearless. The same trick works great against wraithlords.

Back in 2nd edition I was a Space Wolves and Tyranids player....and I just hated when my buddies would drop vortex grenades on my Hive Tyrant...that was just uncalled for!

The best way to kill anything in 40K is to toss dice at it. Make him roll saves as much as you can. While high str weapons are nice and all, there is nothing in the game that will instant kill him since his toughness is so high. So at best you are taking pot shots and hoping to wound and hoping he doesn't save on a one shot basis. However, if you toss lots of dice at him, and make him roll 5 to 10 saving throws a turn he will die.

Also, the Avatar is a daemon right, he is a creature from the warp technically correct? Don't grey knights have answers for that?

I don't see psyk out grenades being that useful, The Avatar isn't a psyker.

If you want a certain model/unit to die, you just toss dice at them. With my orks I use nob bikers and lootas to just unleash like up to 75 or more shooting dice per a turn. Odds are I am going to hit enough times that you won't be able to save against them. Of course this could work to your disadvantage if you try too hard to take one thing out, your opponent could use it as bait.
