So, I have few friends who don't play warhammer but are interested to try it out after seeing me playing with couple others for few times. They don't want to invest any money on it before trying it out. Can't blame them since just to start an army can be around 200€ nowadays. So they can use my and my other friends armies for now. Since they don't know much about the game yet, I promised to make the lists for them.
So limit is 1000pts and idea is to be fun and equal match-ups. So far I've done a Raven Guard list.

HQ
Shrike

Troops
10 man tactical squad sg.with power weapon and pistol. Meltagun and missile launcher. drop pod
10 man tactical squad sg.with powerfist and pistol. Plasmagun and lascannon. drop pod

Fast Attack
10 man assault squad sg.with powerfist and pistol. 2xplasma pistol.
Land speeder with heavy bolter and typhoon launcher.

So if anyone has ideas for similar level lists for Tau, Tyranids, Necrons, Dark Eldar, Blood Angels, Ultra Marines and Orks, I would like to see them

To be honest, get them involved by having them sit down with you and your friends and make lists. This allows them to use their imagination and gives them more of an investment in the armies they play. This also gives you and your friends a chance to explain weapon load-outs. Then if they do decide to get involved in 40K, they will have a better chance to not waste cash on stuff they don't want or need.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.
Armies...
Orks, Eldar, Lamentors, Pre-Heresy EC, CSM EC, and IG.

Wow, blktom really lays down the truth.

List building is probably the most addictive part for many players, but I guess it doesn't look super fun if you're not into it.

Maybe start them off with some of the 3rd ed codices that had armories? customization is hard to resist.

Dreads in drop pods are generally fun. Drop pods in general are a lot of fun. I would just show them the unit entries(the fluffy ones, not the ones in the back) and see which ones they react to most.

I do agree with this, but it was their request to have armies premade. Guess going through list building can be intimidating for those who haven't tried the game yet.

Blood Angels 1000pts

Chaplain w/ JP 155

5 Death Company marines w/ JPs 220
1 TH, 1 PW

10 Assault Marines 235
Sergeant w/ PF, 2 Melta guns

Sang Priest w/ JP 75

5 Vanguard w/ JPs, Sergeant w/ PF 175

5man Devastators w/ 4 Missile launchers 130

Riflemen Dread 130

I think its around 1000, did it off the top of my head. It's a fun DoA list, with some devastators and a dreadnaugh for firepower support. You can drop the chappy for a librarian if you want, I just put him in their for the death company squad.

My first army was Tau. It was actually a pretty good starting force, because all I knew about the game was that everything beats the Tau in close combat, and if I could stay out of it and keep shooting, I could win.

A really simple tau list for starters at 1000 points would be
1 Shas'o fireknife, totally tricked out with the Stimulant Injector, shield generator, HWMT, HWTL... You want to create the feel of a super-elite, hardcore HQ that can do everything, a model to identify with. Maybe even Farsight, if you're willing to look past the weird 'can't play him in under 1500 point army' rule.

Then the rest of the army should be really straight forward.
1 Railhead + 2 Seeker Missiles
2 Broadsides
3 Suits, let's say, vanilla deathrains.
3 Stealth suits, + 1 Markerlight, 1 Marker Drone, and 1 FB
2x6 firewarriors in Devilfish
1 Suit with TL FB, BC, MT

Not really a competitive list, but it's got all the mechanics in it that make you want to learn more about the army and how it works. Markerlights, jetpacks, broadsides, hammerhead, skimmers, tanks, and the bad-ass hq.

Generally, to get people into it. ask them what they like in armies alot of infantry or tanks/mech. when i played with my friends armies i personally liked tank/mech lists. and from there just look at different codex and play games like counts as this for instance. which just makes picking up the game more easy. They develop a taste for what they think is awesome and there you have it more players to play with.

Good...Bad... Im the guy with the, GUN!

A fun way to introduce people to the game is to play the 'kill team' special mission in the battle missions book. It usually works out to about 5-15 models (obviously more with horde armies), and you can have fun with the fluff by coming up with stories about the models and the scenario. You can also multi-player it without too much rules tweaking and get some really fun games going.

Kill team is pretty quick too, so you can use it to let people test out a bunch of different units to see what they really like.
