I'm painting up some MoT Chaos Warriors, and got inspired by the way oil has a multicolored sheen to it and would like to replicate that on some of their metal parts. Does anyone know how to do this?

Maybe layers of washes over a charcoal grey surface and then gloss varnish to cover. At least that's what I would try.

Get some Scorched Brown (or Burnt Umber oil paint is ideal), mix with gloss varnish at a 50% 50% ratio and paint it on.

Get a black wash and mix it with a tiny amount of boltgun metal. This will give it the greasy/oily look due to the reflective nature of the metallic paint while keeping it black like oil.

Might try something like

Iridescent Medium, you can even add different colors to it, for Oil I would mix it with black paint or black ink and it would probably do what you want.

That looks almost exactly like what I want, thank you.

You're welcome! I've tried using iridescent paints to get the 2-tone paint effect, and it sorta works, but it's not nearly as effective to get that oily look.
