Hello everyone,

I have been investing in Orks for the last month or so to bring the AoBR fellas to a competitive standard. That means that now I have a lot more than 580pts I can deploy.
In the process of learning the rules I have been playing mainly against my house mate who has been playing the Space marines quite successfully so far, since I am yet to win a game. Because of my growing army he became interested in buying some models to add to the SM to bring the army to 1000pts. I have no idea how to do this nor does he since he hasn't read the codex at all (got it yesterday). What should I buy to is the question then. From previous post the battle force seems the way to go but what should he buy in the mix as well.

Thank you very much in advance,
Bruno

I did the same thing, bought AOBR and SM battleforce to make up the bulk of the army. I'd recommend getting another tactical Squad and two rhinos (gives you the two troops choices necessary for a legal army and protection/transports), I've personally found missile launcher devastor squads and multi-melta attack bikes very useful (pointwise you could squeeze in one or the other). Alternatively another dread would work (I think you could afford an ironclad with the points available). Hope this helps.

Does that mean you still use the HQ from AoBR? Most lists I have seen seem to use a chaplain but I still don't know how much it makes sense.

I mainly use a terminator librarian (bought me a finecast :-P), I was making the recommendations on the basis your friend wants to buy the minimum amount in order to field a 1,000 points versus your orks. I reccomend Chaplain Cassius

unless your planning on running a chaplain with a Jump Pack due to his being a complete badass for a meager 125pts

the battleforce has 500 pts of marines. With that, you can have a nice 1000 pts with AoBR.

It's a 1,000 points but it's not a nice army. You have 2 tac squads and 1 rhino - so need a second rhino or razorback straight off.

The Captain on foot is not the best HQ.

5 scouts are CC versions, so you really want snipers or maybe a LS storm.

5 termies need a cyclone missile launcher to be useful.

5 assualt marines is too small a squad.

Dread has MM/DCCW option so needs to get autocannons or a drop pod to be useful.

Devs will depend on the weapon sprue options - have to admit I'm not sure what you get but don't mix them in a squad.

Overall, minimum purchase is a rhino. Second is a potential HQ upgrade.Third I would say a drop-pod.

When it comes to weapon sprue options, the devastator box is fully sick. As I recall, you get:

2 lascannons
2 plasmacannons
2 heavybolters
1 or maybe 2 multimeltas
1 missile launcer

1 power fist (left)
1 true grit-style bolter plus arm (right)
1 bionic chainsword-arm (left)
1 set of kneeling legs
1 set of quickdraw/mexican standoff legs in a broad stance with straight knees
1 helmet with lots of lenses and stuff
4 servo-skulls
one million melta bombs

You get torsos and stuff for five dudes as well so I thought it was a pretty sweet box.

EDIT: checked my bits box, turns out the chainsword arm is not bionic. Just fyi.

my friend has also bought to add to the space marines i gave him from aobr, he bought the devestators, attack bike and sniper scouts, devestators look like there gonna do the most damage to my army of orks.

he has been toying with the idea of chaplins and librarians, but he also needs to do a bit more reading!

Have a good Waaagh!

I would Highly recommend a Librarian to lead the Army; along with another Tac. squad, and a couple Rhinos to tote the Tac. Marines around in. Getting some Heavy Armour on the field in the form of a Pred or vindicator would not be a bad Idea either.
