What is your favorite BL novel? Mine is either book 1 or 2 from the tomb of fire trilogy (looking forward to book 3), or any of the blood angels books featuring Rafen. As far as Horus Heresy books are I like prospero burns or the first heretic, currently reading thousand sons aswell so my opinion might change but i really like the first three aswell as they was the first BL books that i read.

Ooh, that's a tough one. I'm a big Dan abnett fan so I think for a one of a series it'd have to be "Only in Death", a Gaunt's Ghosts novel. It's full on action but in a strange way it's like a haunted house story. Fantastic! As a one off, I'd go for "Execution Hour" by Gordon Rennie--great space battles.
Nice thread mrwezmond!

Yeah Gaunts Ghosts novels are meant to be brilliant, however iv never read one! dont know why, although i do get easily sidetracked when picking which to read next as i did initially intend to read the full HH from book one but it never happened lol.

The first one I read, and the one that set the standard - the original Space Marine by Ian Watson.
Followed by any Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain.

Having burned my way through more of the BL books than is healthy, I would have to say either the Ciaphas Cain series for its tounge in cheek approach to the 40k universe, or Prospero Burns because it is a fantastic insight into my favourite marine chapter.

I really like Graham McNeills work, especially Fulgrim (favourite HH novel) and Storm of Iron (although the ending could have been written better IMHO) and also Abnetts Eisenhorn trilogy.
Top Three:
1. Fulgrim
2. Eisenhorn
3. Storm of Iron

Not sure if this counts as it was originally published by Boxtree, then re-issued by BL, but for me Ian Watson's Space Marine is one of the best works of sci-fi I have ever read. In my opinion, no other author since has been able to fully grasp the selfless, arrogant, secular, self righteous and inherently complex nature of the Space Marines. Every time I re-read it, I pick up on something different surrounding the characters, empathising from different views the complicated sense of humanity and brotherhood that binds these wonderful characters together

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! My good friend Nerdfest09, who post here quite regularly, is the current owner of this well read tome. Part of the enjoyment for the both of us is in the re reading the dog eared, fading, yellow paged copy. Torn pages, covers coming unstuck and general signs of wear only enhance the experience Having said that, I doubt anything well be lost in translation with an online copy

Anything from the Gotrek and Felix series, but since this is 40k, i liked the short stories gathered around, and the Cain series was great. Goto made me painfully sick though.

I just finished Helsreach. After I was done, I went back and re-read chapter 13, it is that good. It would even make a good movie provided the screenplay started at chapter 13. That meeting about the promethium platforms and the coming attack on the docks would be epic awesome-sauce properly acted.
Just started Fall of Dambos, pretty meh thus far.
Also, Commissar Caiphas Mother ing Cain, because I loves me my Black Adder 40k.

The Omnibus Hammer of the Emperor was quite good. The presentation was done very well. Not many instances that I know of that went against established cannon except for a Chaos SM catching a Powerfist with his hands and crushing it. Don't think that can happen.

I have to be careful with my (original) copy - it's getting a little tired now.
