Hi everyone! The first thing many of you will notice is that I am not Space_Potato and yet I'm posting the new MotM which is normally his responsibility. However, he reached out to the community for a replacement as he will soon be joining the Armed Forces and feels he won't be able to continue this himself. Since none of us want this to end, and after receiving his permission (proof can be provided), I have the responsibility to carry it on from where he left off. I’m sure we all wish Space_Potato the best for the future. For continuity’s sake, I shall keep the times S_P set out in terms of entry dates and the like. I’ll also try to avoid repeating past competition themes as far as possible. Following on from his swansong June MotM, (the winner can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/379584.page), we find ourselves in a new month - and that means a new competition.

So, let’s get on with it!

Entries need to be PM'd to me by July 27th, 11pm (EST) with the prefix “[MotM]”. Example: [MotM] Space Marine Chaplain.

UK users -> 27th by 3am.
PST users -> 26th by 8pm.
German users -> 27th by 4am.
Japanese users -> 27th by 12 noon.

You can use any miniature you want, regardless of its age. Providing it fits the theme, go with it!

And finally, the theme of the July 2011 MotM competition is....

Heavy Support
Bring out the big guns! For 40K this will be obvious, for Fantasy players anything in the 'Rares' category may be entered here. For Lord of the Rings, any War Machines or Monsters may be entered.

Single miniatures only, no squad entries. Models such as the crew of Fantasy/LOTR war machines count together as a single entry, likewise a 2-man IG Heavy Weapon crew still only count as the one model.
Best of luck to all of you!

Here's the quick "How To" on mini photography:
Miniatures should be placed against a pale/muted background (preferably white paper, or a sheet, or even in a light box if you have one), with natural lighting. Use the "macro" function on your camera (usually a little flower) and take a shot of the whole thing. If you need to make the picture massive to get the quality of the shot perfect, then crop it in Photoshop, Paint or any other suitable editing software, and then post it. There are no rules on how you may pose your miniature, but as face-on as possible is preferable.

Looking forward to this, I've nearly finished my entry. I'm surprised there are no other posts here yet.

Thanks for keeping this alive.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

Hi,

Last month's subject was 'Works In Progress'. As such, the models that qualified were not necessarily fully built or painted. That was a one-off.

Every other subject, unless specified, usually requires painted entries. I suppose there's nothing against you entering an unpainted one but trust me, you stand a much bigger chance of winning if it's painted.

As for conversions, they can be entered too providing they fit the theme. The competition is kind of an overall 'which mini is the best'. Good paintjobs, well-based miniatures and decent conversions and the like will all help you gain votes. It isn't necessarily just a painting contest per se, as voters can base their opinions on other factors (such as the aforementioned ones) than just the paintjob.

We doing single miniature? Or can be a squad this month?

If the squad counts as a single Heavy Support choice eg. Devastator Squad then it can be entered. But if you'd prefer, you can enter a single Devastator (for example).

South Africa is 2 hours ahead of GMT (the UK zone) so for you the deadline would be 5am on the 27th.
