So, here is my question to all that may know the anwser to this. i have a ton of bitz laying around and i decided to make a custom Space Marine, Librarian. would it be illegal to us in a tournament? or would i have to actually go out and buy one? it just seems like a waste of plastic and materials if custom models are not allowed. thanks for the help.

Sure, so long as it is WYSIWYG, most TO's would not have a problem with it. Though if you have any concerns, contact them beforehand.

If you cobble together a SM from bits and it actually looks like a SM(first off, good on you), then you should be fine. Make it the proper size and WYSIWYG and nobody can complain about it.

The general rule is it has to be a certain amount GW stuff, but if it is bits it is all GW stuff.

GW sponsored events typically require that the models be 80% GW product. That means you can kit bash to your heart's content and be fine. So long as your SM Librarian looks like a Space Marine and is equipped appropriately, you'll be fine.

yup, just make sure he has the littlet hings that make it look like a libby (book and psychic hood IIRC)

also, the 80% GW products means that if you only use GW bits, you should be fine.

Speaking as an Ork Mekaniak, I feel wounded and worried that anyone in this hobby, even as a complete newb, would feel the need to only use bitz for models they are intended for, and feels the need to ask if they're even allowed to kitbash. What kind of backwater, degenerate games store are you playing at that they've somehow gotten this idea into your head? Do they do no conversions? Do they not Kitbash, Scratchbuild, model? It is a crime against the culture of gaming to not allow custom pieces, and I will not stand for it!

You use that Bitz box, Stileprojekt. You use it well. Dazzle us with your conversions, now and in the future, and blow their minds when you walk in the door and set down a Librarian the likes of which they've never seen before.

Thank you, thank you. And it warms the cockles of my heart that those such as Mannahnin and Fafnir would agree with me.

Man, I really, really need to get some pics of my stuff up on here.

Oh, and OP? Check out that link in Fafnir's sig. It'll be worth your while.

Just remember to use the correct-sized base!!

And make sure he doesn't look exactly like a Master of the Forge that you've also kitbashed... again, WYSIWYG, "counts as",. etc.

CONVERSIONS FOREVER!!!!!

If I could only use un-edited GW products, I would not play this game.

As long as it is WYSIWYG, cannot be confused with other models in your army and conforms to any % GW that a tourney might have, you are golden. Conversion FTW. People have been doing it forever. In some instances, you are *required* to as there are no suitable GW models: Belial and Thunderwolf Cavalry are two standouts.

The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.
