Subject: Tomb Kings Warsphinx - is it really that good?

Battlefield Professional

So I played a 1K tourney today and won all three games. It seems like my Warsphinx, for 230 points (with firey breath) was the MVP of my army. First, my list:
2 Lvl 2 Liche priests
19 x skelly archers
4 x chariots
1 x warsphinx
1 x screaming skull
1 x casket.
Game 1 was against high elves. He was running a unit of seaguard, a unit of shadow warriors, a unit of swordmasters a prince (with the shadow warriors) and a wizard.
I got a flanking charge on the swordmasters with my sphinx... game over. shot up the warriors with everything else...
Game 2 against a night goblin army with one unit of ork boar riders and ork general. He lost in the deployment phase, deployed his general on one end and his 3 regiments of gobbos on the other. I hit a regiment with casket, they panicked and the entire army fled. Sphinx served as a great anvil tho - drawing out a bunch of fanatics.
Game 3 against high elves- unit of seaguard and unit of swordmasters, prince and wiz with swordmasters. I whittled down his swordmasters to about 5 including his general. He got a flank on my sphinx and I still won combat. His general fled, I ran it down with sphinx.
So aside from game 2 where the casket took out the entire gobbo army, that sphinx was so bad ass. Anyone feel the same way? How does it die even at 1000 points? The only other model which may have challenged it was a skaven rat abomination which was his MVP.
If they are soo good as well, why not run the following list?
2 liche priests, lvl 2
29 skelly archers
24 skelly archers
2 warsphinx.

Well at that points it's nasty toughness 8 is harsh.
It is amazing I did kill 1 with my hellcannon boom and splat did 6 wounds in 1 shot but there is no reason not to take one they are awesome and casket and catapult rock in larger games just add another catapult etc.
Sphinx rocks and is a cool model

At lower points values, big monsters are really hard to take on. As you increase in points there's more chance of stuff showing up that can reliably wipe kill them, and leave a big hole in your army.
You were also lucky enough not to face any dwarves or empire lists, whose cannons could have left a big 230 point hole in your list.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I still dont think this list would of faired well against a HE player who knew what he was doing. And if you ran into even two cannons I doubt this lsit would be flying as high

A skaven player would have ruined your day, I'd think. WLCs are amazing at monster hunting, Gutter Runners will fling poisoned rocks at you and a properly supported slave block will tie your big baddy up while they do it.

I agree that the skaven would have ways of killing the big guy - but the list focused on giving my opponent too many targets. And I didn't fear skaven with a screaming skull AND a casket of souls.
