According to Showbiz Spy, Jason Statham is being lined up to take over as lead character in the next Transformers movie. Apparently, the fantastic box office takings since the movie opened last Wednesday have convinced Paramount to move ahead with a fourth instalment, and the British star is their top pick! As usual, take the following (along with the apparent plans for a fourth movie) with a pinch of salt...

"One of the stars being mentioned is Rosie’s boyfriend Jason Statham," says a Hollywood insider.

"It’s clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking Transformers in a new, darker direction. Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie.

YES! Oh please yes. More screen time for the Transformers themselves is paramount, Paramount, but a darker, more action oriented human side with Jason Statham kicking Decepticon ass Transporter style wouldn't be scorned where I'm standing.

No NO NO! God damnit Paramount haven't you learned XD Why. Look at Optimus! YOu're killing him! Killing him!

But I digress. The least they could do is give Bay the boot in the butt he needs and grab someone with a propr grasp of story structure and non-corny dialogue mostly based on cheap quippy one liners.

Just as planned, so it seems.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Statham would honestly kill Megatron with nothing but a pencil and some thumbtacks, and we would believe it, because he's JASON FETHING STATHAM.

So, yeah. Statham wins.

Spoiler:
Megatron's dies at the end of Dark of the Moon, as do Screamer, Soundwave, and Shockwave.

Good luck doing it without rebooting the series without the A-list(or even the B-list) villains.

Also, Bay has already said he's not returning.

Good. No one will mourn.
They need to reboot it, for reasons given in the spoiler above.

Oh thank god. *praises the all spark*

I could live with a reboot of the franchise. So much more could have been done with the characters than they did. Where was Starscreams attempt to stab Megatron in the back? Why was Shockwave a cardboard cut out? How come Soundwave was doing things in DotM that could have been better achieved by a character like Breakdown or Lockdown leaving him to do his own thing?

A reboot may actually give future movies a chance at being decent

Oh, and what about a Chris Nolan Transformers movie? That would be scary as gak!

First rule of good story line. When someone dies. Leave them dead... Wait a minute *looks at RotF and American Comic Books*

No wonder the ratings are so low!

It would be good, however Nolan can't reboot every superhero franchise whilst pumping out wonders like Inception at the same time.

Pass on Nolan.

I don't mind his Batman(except his ridiculousness at how he views some characters and why they wouldn't be in one of his movies), but he's not the right fit for the bots.

I'm not sad over Starscream, as he was a whiney bitch.

She plays Carly in Dark of the Moon. She's also a Victoria's Secret model.

Oh, AND a hell of a better actress than Megan Fox.

Go see the movie. She's actually plot important in many parts, unlike Mikaela.

No she's not. She's in it so there can be a love interest. Like ALL women in MOST action movies. Where's Melissia when we actually need her to decry sexism

I actually postulate that T3 would have been a much better movie without a love interest, and just focusing on Sam growing up from whiny annoyance to moderately believable action hero. As it stands, he took an army of elite super troopers to rescue his girl friend and then dragged her around in the war zone... for some reason...

Jason Statham? Thats good, that means Paramount has finally acknowledged that noone was going to see Transformers for the story (sad but true, thats what happens when Michael fething Bay directs it), but for the action sequences and special effects, etc. Thats what Statham is good at, lol

She hasn't been on for a month now. I'm getting worried.

Also, Megan Fox was in the desert for one reason:

Yes, she is:

Megatron wouldn't have gotten involved at the end without her.

It's also very evident that Patrick Dempsey's character set up their entire relationship from the beginning to get his claws into Sam(why else would she be at the White House when newly single Sam was if not for Dempsey?).

Megatron should have done that on his own judging by his character (I think that they had Megatron keep his injuries to his head to make it seem like he'd become mentally impaired or something, which is weird cause everyone else miraculously heals their wounds between the other movies). Don't mistake bad story line events for giving a character actual purpose. *EDIT: Someone send this message to Stephanie Meyer. This is another lesson she needs to learn*

It's also very evident that Patrick Dempsey's character set up their entire relationship from the beginning to get his claws into Sam(why else would she be at the White House when newly single Sam was if not for Dempsey?).

The entire blackmailing scenario was meaningless. Dempsey and the Decepticons planned to blow the Autobots up anyway whether they had a plan or not (Dempsey even says so which is really really weird). Whatshername was in the movie for the same reason women appear in most action movie. To get kidnapped/threatened and be rescued. Usually though the kidnapping actually makes a degree of sense (and too look good I guess...).

You say this, but the original version of the script(and the novel) has Optimus accepting his truce offer and Megatron taking the 'Cons and going home to Cybertron. Megatron obviously became a very different bot after RotF's beat down.

Despite what you say, she's still does more than Mikaela in 2 whole movies.

Let's face it. You can replace most actors in Transformers with kittens and it would make more sense than with humans.

Who cares about the original script version and the novel? I'm talking about the movie I went to see last saturday. In the movie, Megatron already seemed to realize what Carly told him (when SP beat him down and said Megs would never rule him). You actually expect me to believe that he then needed the dumb blonde (and the human for that matter) to tell him what he already knew to actually do what he probably should have done in the first place?

Megatron loves power. He pursues it as an end. He should have gone after SP of his own accord because that fits his character. Not because they wanted to make the love interest more interesting.

EDIT: I will concede she does more than Megan Foxybooty, but that hardly makes her important to the plot of the story. She could have been completely removed and the events would have been pretty much the same.

Obviously, he did, since he was sitting around(literally) picking his brains about it.

Also, the point I was stating about the original script(and novel), is that they were trying to change his characterization in this one. It's NOT just about power anymore for Megs, it's about restoring and returning home now.

Hence my comment about him seeming somewhat mentally impaired. At least he seemed so to me. We could actually probably rate this problem as being the result of horrible characterization. EDIT: And bad plot consistency. I mean, Bumblebee got his legs back, Blackout miraculously returned from the dead, numerous other characters healed all their wounds or just straight up disappeared over the course of the films (while megs is still missing half his brain it seems). Someone in the development process doesn't know how to make sure previous events mesh with currents.
