Most SCs seem to be massively overcosted...you can easily build a normal lord/hero to be better at a lower point cost(i guess GW never bothered to compare costs this way).

Well theres teclis for one. Anyone else?

Honestly I can't think of any dwarf anything my runesmith usually costs around 126 and thats when i add only one master rune on which is the rune of balancing so hes not totally effective at anything other than stopping magic and watching the battle.

Dwarves: I've seen Bugman used effectively. Not terrribly sure about the rest of them.

Dark Elves: Shadowblade is only useful for assassinating Teclis. Beyond that, they are all overpriced for what they do.

Skaven: Well, Queek is about as hoss a combat character as the Skaven get - he might barely be worth it IF you are making an 'elite combat' army. Too expensive for a 'horde' army.Beyond him, they are pretty lackluster.

Brettonians: The Green Knight is quite expensive, BUT he is well worth the price in a large battle. The trick to using him is to also have your tricked-out Lord and level 4 caster too, which restricts him to pretty high-level games.
The Fae Enchantress is quite expensive. But having a +6 to cast Lore of Life in addition to the extra Lore of Heavens spell per turn (for no dice!) is very nice indeed.
King Louen Leoncoeur is god-awful expensive, but I've seen him carve up a (granted, smallish) unit of Chaos Warriors solo, and didn't even loose his ride.

Grimgor Ironhide is pretty good for his points. He can carve up units quickly and effectively.

I agree with m14 that is true he is a beast.

Woc festus with 50 mok marauders with gw is effective marauders with regen of 5+ if I'm not mistaken.

Wulfrick the wanderer plus 50 mok marauders with gw say good bye to your gunline muaha.

Teclis just gah so effective and chees so much cheese.

Queek I think or one of those skaven lords that is super cheap but just kills everything.

Maybe a tk guy but that's all that come to mind that have not been mentioned.

He's easily the most powerful SC in the game and also the reason that my local group banned SCs. For some reason our LM-player didn't like me when Teclis IF'd Purple Sun down his army...

I really do like Festus with marauders. I have really been enjoying Elithron on foot, but maybe thats just me.

The Beastmen have a few good ones, I really like the Minotaur one althou I cant remember his name thou. Wulfrik is also good for WoCs then

I use Bugman with my Dwarfs, plan on using Ghorros with my Beastmen. Queek is solid with Skaven, the extra leadership helps and he's damn good at killing. Khadila was awesome in the old TK book not sure how she does now. Only other army I have is Ogres and the only viable SC is Skragg IMO and he costs a butt load at 400

I can't believe noone has mentioned any Daemons of Chaos Characters yet. Kairos Fateweaver, Skulltaker and the Masque are all significantly better than a Greater Daemon / Herald could be.

As others have mentioned Teclis, Grimgor Ironhide and Wulfrik the Wanderer are also used quite often.

Hellebron, just to have witches as core (that and 7-9 S10 attacks is pretty sweet; for the 1 round she's alive).

Slug Tongue is pretty good too for the pre-game hits on all those sneaky scouts and vanguards.

Bugman is good, Thorek Ironbrow is good (I see alot of lists including him). The King COULD be good, if he was about 200pts less than what he is. His Book of Grudges ability should be a common upgrade, IMO.

Fateweaver is solid, as is skulltaker, but no locus for the unit(put him in horrors with changeling) Masque is ok, epidumus and the others not so much.

High elves: Tryion and alith anar are the only two I can justify.

Karl Franz on foot is awesome. Basar Gelt is good and luthor huss is sweet too. Aside from that pretty much anything in the DOC army along with all the bretonnian special characters.

Archaon is a little well ya hes almost 700 points but hes 700 points of punch you in the face and have awesome saves and ya im pretty much better than you at everything

Still pricey.

Stride forward in a unit of now unbreakable temple guard and drop 2d6 st 4 hits on every unit within 6/12/18/24 inch RADIUS.
I invariably put the TG down last (pre characters) opposite the most target rich environment and then turn 1 march 8 forward, drop a 24 inch to pick up a few units, if they move to me even better. Once in combat I may drop 2 12 inch but with the max level you are dropping a 4 foot diameter death blow.

Yes some magic lores will tear him a new one (and his TG) but at a tourney or if your opponent didn't know you were playing him or lizzies and hasn't tailored magic to suit he is just plain awesome.
