for pretty much all the time I've been wargaming I've only ever played xeno armies, no particualr reason its just how it turned out, so I've been wanting to build an army from the imperium, reading through the fluff, I've narrowed it down to two space marine chapters, either the blood angels for the Grey Knights, I was wondering what the people of the internet prefered as asking in my FLGS pretty much gave me a 50-50 split?

any opinions at all are welcome

both have very new codexs and some cool models. I would prefer Grey Knights myself mostly because i like the models more. But you could always do what I would do in such a circumstance and slowly build up both armies.

Both are very capable Codices competitive wise. Both books were written by the same author and are generally disliked by the community due to the fluff, it's all personal preference. In terms of models, both will be moderately expensive to build depending on whether you want a fluffy army or a competitive army, as the basic troops for bother come mostly in boxes of only 5 whilst being priced quite close to the price of a regular tactical squad.

I don't like either, fluff-wise. As far as a reccommendation, I see one big factor in each army's favor. Blood Angles are much easier to play, it seems to me. (Just from observation.) On the other hand, I think that Grey Knights would be easier to paint. Red is a hard color to get right. Whichever of those two is the bigger draw for you, that would be my reccommendation.

It really depends on your style of playing, I've never had the pleasure of playing Grey knights. But if you like a quick offensive strike force go BA. I know mech is more competitive, but play DOA because I think it's more fun. I still have a good record with them too. Either way is a quick way to get stuck in with the enemy and if you move well you can confuse and table people.

From a fluff stand point I suggest making your own chapter, but that's just me. If you don't like that I think BA more interesting just because they are probably the most human of the Marines.

I am liking the idea of building them both at the same time, would stop things getting repetitive when painting and modeling, would trying to build a single army that could count as both be a good idea?, maybe come up with a new colour scheme to make thwm gel together better?

it would be kinda hard to make one army that counts as either since the grey knights weapons are different then blood angels. But anything is possible.

To be honest I probably would hafta technically make two armies, but have them share simular units like a stormravem, rhinos and the like, maybe have a libraian dreadnought count as a venerable or vice versa ( and at a stretch interceptors that could als be assault marine if need be)

doing that could work. Both armies could most certianly share units like the vehicles and such. I think mainly the troop and terms and a few of the more individual units would be a strecth to mix but otherwise it could work. Also doing it that way can let you try both out and see which you like better and may help you narrow it down to one army. I'm kinda wantin to start both armies now too, since you got me thinkin of them.

Go Blood Angels. Its lots of fun to play. GK are all about having dudes bunkered into Rhinos and then shooting from the top. Grey Knights is a good shooting army that is amazing in CC, but competitively they are best at shooting until you can get into CC. Blood Angels are all about the fast vehicles which I love and find that its a blast to play with them!

Are you sure your talking about GK there?
Bunkering in Rhinos and staying at range to take shots?
That sounds nothing like them or what they are supposed to be

Running all paladins is a sure way to die. I saw somebody do it against Dark Eldar. He got stomped so miserably it was painful to watch. But I echo the Blood Angels. They can be a lot of fun. Storm Ravens are awesome, and Death Company are amazing. Enjoy

PS-your avatar looks familiar "danny"...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
