Good evening, Dakka. How's the best wargaming forum on the internet today?
Thanks for stopping by. I have some things to show you. Meet the Mega Marines Space Marine Chapter! I started painting them back in 2008, and have recently picked them up again and finished them. Please take a look below. Comments, questions and criticism is more than welcome. If you anything to say or ask, good or "bad", just put it down in the comments box. Without further pause, here we go:
An Imperial Guardsman that I mostly painted back in 2009. He was a very experimental model, mostly because I was searching how to get a good orange colour on models. In the he turned out quite fiery and exotic, and the green is such a lovely complimenting colour. Yes, I do like orange/green quite allot!
Here are some Blood Angels that I started painting in 2007, and finished in early 2008. They were my first real attempt at hard edge highlighting. I can remember it now: holding my breath, brush shaking all over the place, constantly having to mop up where I had gone astray... hehe!
Lastly, here are some Eldar. They were painted in a quartered colour scheme, mainly because I had been painting lots of Empire State Troops earlier that year (which have since been stripped of paint and cleaned up). It was also when I started painting white, and watering down my colours. I had to, otherwise the white would turn out all streaky and horrible. They were painted from 2006 to 2007. Both the Eldar and the Blood Angels have had a quick coat of The Army Painter's Anti-Shine Matte Varnish to take away some of their glossy sheen away (caused by GW Purity Seal - which is such a good spray varnish when used correctly)!
Once again Dakka, thankyou so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful rest of the day.
lol, i sit at work all day, and just look at my "skip to unread" and recent posts, because at reception for summer internship, and its borin...really borin

I like the paint scheme on your Mega Marines, but the highlights seem much too bright. I do like the highlighting on the guardsman.

Thanks, Jordan. I agree about the highlights. Personally, I think the the sharpness of the highlights is pretty cool, although it was one of the reasons why I stopped painting them at the time.
I love the highlighting on the guardsman. He has a very intresting color choice but it really worked out.

Thankyou so much, Alex, I'm glad that you like them. A steady hand, controlled breathing, good light, thinned down paint and a small brush are key to edge highlighting
The Blood Angels look decent. The Guardians look good. The MegaMarines, however, look FANTASTIC! I love the color scheme you've got going on, and they're very, very crisp. I'm a big fan of that scheme and I hope you'll post more Marines like them in the future! As for that Guardsman? I like him almost as much! Once again, great color selection and very crisp painting.
Cosmic,Cosmic,Cosmic, what can a Nerdfest say? except you should change the name from mega marines to EPIC marines! or even perhaps MEGA EPIC marines? but that does sound a bit similar to CRASSUS ARMOURED TRANSPORT! so maybe we'll just leave them! :-)
on a serious note, I really do like the paintjobs! they look excellent i've never seen a highlight done like that with such a contrasting colour before but it works so well on them, and they look so neatly done! I love the squad pic i'd be stoked to have painted models like these!
your guard is wicked too! the orange is perfect and the mid olive green is a great match for it, I would like to see more troops done in the scheme? or even a vehicle? a sentinel would be cool!
the Blood angels are good but i can see what you mean when edge highlighting with a shaky hand! mine still shakes like a Chihuahua on a cold day! but you've still managed to get them to look good! I can definitely see the progress over the last couple of years of your painting!
Not too sure about the Eldar? I can't fault the painting and it's a brave man who paints quartered eldar! I just think that they get a tad lost with the bases? otherwise, more great models!
can't wait to see more of your stuff! what's next on the paint table?

I like the Marines. Your color scheme goes together well, and you do a good job painting red, which is difficult. I normally like my Marines a little more glossy as opposed to flat, but yours are awesome.
Wow, that is some of the cleanest, crispest painting I've ever seen. The Guardsman in particular looks absolutely phenomenal. Great job, you should definitely stick with this scheme.
Wow! I love your Blood Angels and the Guardsman you painted! The Mega Marine models look good, too, though I think the highlighting on them might be a tad extreme.
Also, I like how you did up your bases.
Of course, now I feel so ashamed of my own lackluster painting skills...

That's an Auspex. It's a sensor/detector kind of thing that... senses and dectects stuff.

The Mega Marines are Mega Awesome! That's some incredible detail and very skilled brushwork. Great job, hoping to see more.
Just a note on the Guardsman- it cracked me up. I could see him on the field jumping around and waving while screaming "Hey! HEEYY! Over here!! Shoot at meeee!"

I've never been so delighted and impressed by all of the comments that I've received in a topic than this one. Thankyouthankyou all so much!
As for more Mega (Epic? Epic Mega?) Marines, I'm not so sure at the moment, but for now, however, there is some Mantic minis that I need to complete, which I'll post in an old thread of mine.
I can totally see the Guardsman running around screaming "SHOOT ME!" too! The plan, you see, is that if there's enough of them all running around doing the same thing, the enemy will be become so confused that they'll turn tail and run
I Love the color combos you have chosen! The highlights on the armor of the MEGA MARINES look so nice, and crisp. I would Love to be on the other side of a table of fully painted MEGA MARINES like these! The lines in your painting look phenomenal! The cleanness of your black to orange transitions are incredible!!
The Guardsman look fantastic as well, completely wish i could paint such clean highlight lines!!! I think a platoon of those guys would look Great on the field!
I can't say i am a fan of the elder, I think the details of the models are lost in the way you painted them. They look kinda bland with the plain blue, and the all black weapons. The Bases look nice though! I have never been able to get even decent looking snow bases.
Nice job on the minis! I am Looking forward to seeing some more of what you have painted up!!!!
Cheers

SO we need to get rid of the "You know you should be painting" Headliner... every time i see it i think of the collection of models sitting unpainted
Okay folks, there's been allot of demand for more Mega Marines, so there will be more!!! I'm literally going to paint what I've got, bar the necessary purchase of a few transports, but that's okay. Now for a quick rundown of the list.
Here we go:
HQ:
Captain - Storm Bolter, Power Sword.
Command Squad - 5 Marines, Standard Bearer, Meltagun, Apothecary, the rest with Boltguns.
Troops:
Tactical Squad Alpha - 10 Marines, Meltagun, Plasma Cannon, and a Sergeant with a Boltgun, Drop Pod.
Tactical Squad Beta - 5 Marines, Sergeant with a Boltgun, Razorback with Twin-Linked Lascannons
Assault Squad - 10 Marines, 2 Flamers, Sergeant with Storm Shield, Powerfist and Melta Bombs.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that should be 998 points in total. The plan is that the Dreadnaught and Command Squad + Captain stay back and cover the Razorback whilst it carries it's small payload to an objective. The Assault Squad causes havoc from turn one (well, hopefully, or even at the least just a very good distraction lol), and Tactical Squad Alpha Land to contest the opponents objective in deep enemy territory, simultaneously blowing stuff up. What do people think? Like they say, a plan never goes to plan when the bullets start flying!
