hey my blood red paint isn't really staying on my minis when I try to put put the red on it just moves the paint and doesn't stick to the marine......all my other paints are fine and I have tried stirring the paint and shaking it well, both had no affect at all....

It's a thin paint, most reds are. Is you mini base coated?

Are you using primer on your models? It gives a valuable "tooth" for paint to cling to. Alternately, you might have just overthinned your paint and added too much water or what have you.

I'll echo the others in asking if you've primed the model...

Typically when I'm doing blood red, I will do red gore first then blood red on top of it. If I want it to look brighter, then I'll put a layer or two of white down first since i usually prime with black.

I use a very Bright blood Red, and the secret is many, many thin layers. After the first 2-3 layers of blood red you will notice it become solid and opaque. For a step by step i use:

Primer
Basecoat: Mechrite Red
2nd Coat: Red Gore (all over)
1st Highlight: 1:1 of Red Gore and Blood Red (leave dark recesses Red Gore
2nd Highlight: few layers of Blood Red
Wash: 1:1 Baal Red and Devlin Mud (in recesses and shadow, do not let it pool)
Re-Highlight: few more layers of Blood red
Final Highlight: 2:1 Blood Red and Fiery Orange

Styrofoam04 said it best.

I find the brighter "color" paints do this, especially the blood red, along with sunburst yellow, space wolves grey, and snot green. Skull White is the biggest culprit here and I loathe using it. Multiple coats and layering can help with this. If I were going to use say Blood Red, I'd start (primed black mind you) with a coat of scab red. Then I begin to layer minute coats of the blood red (or other colors depending on how I want it to look), until it's the brightness I want. By doing this well, you create a complex color with some depth and dynamic.

I would also add that oils from your fingers will prevent paint from taking on a model even with primer. Avoid touching the model on large surface areas like SM shoulders with your fingers to avoid this.

A coat of a medium brown also works as good base coat for thin red paints.

You need to prime. I use white primer, and then the blood red goes on perfectly. I'm not a fan of using multiple layers on the grunts in my armies (mostly because they're almost all horde armies), but even with just the one layer, blood red goes on without any problems. It might not look as good as layering on thin layers, but it looks good enough for tabletop quality.

try vallejo game colour, their paints have more pigment than the citadel standard ones. the mechrite advice is good too.

You still need to prime for Vallejo paints.

Maybe try army painter spray primer you get 2 in 1 a nice red and a primer all in 1 saves you a ton of time.

Pure red or dragon red work well (pure red is hella red).
