Subject: Somebody's actually making a Live Action Captain Planet movie O_O
It's hard to believe this hasn't happened already, but now the stars have aligned for a live action movie adaptation of CAPTAIN PLANET to be made. The elemental powers and superhero aspect would seem to make it a prime candidate for a summer blockbuster, along with Hollywood's propensity to adapt anything we used to watch as kids.
I'm not saying it will be good, lord knows there will be miles to go before it could ever get there, but it's an understandable adaptation, and one that's forthcoming from TRANSFORMERS producer Don Murphy and Cartoon Network, despite the fact that this is not actually animated.
“The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today,” said (Turner Broadcasting's) Snyder. “We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining.”
“We are extremely excited about bringing the good Captain back to life,” said Murphy. “His adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations. We expect to make a spectacular series of films with the amazing team at Cartoon Network.”
A spectacular SERIES of films no less. Of course. Why greenlight one movie when you can go for three or four? I think there could be a way to make such a film cool. The elemental powers alone would make for some pretty cool action sequences, provided they don't hired the LAST AIRBENDER effects team. As for the usually lame Heart? I'd love to see a bunch of mind controlled jungle animals wreck havoc on some eco-baddies.
The question is will this be PG goofball Spy Kids material, or will they aim for a PG-13 "grittier" version of the series?

The sad thing about that kid with the heart ring is that his mokey was always more useful than him. They should have just given him a gun and told him to go all south america freedom fighter on all of the villans.

I hope it costs US$675MM to make, US$350MM to market, and makes $3.50.

Also seconded - heart is not a power.

If his chest had been a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it."

Ok, leaving the Natalie Portman potential aside, what does heart do again? IIRC wasn't it akin to beast magic, in that it made all the animals your friend or something.

Sorry, just putting that out there.
No, the guy using it was a Pacifist. Heart was essentiaslly mind control, it was potentially the most powerful power but only the guy using it was such a drongo.
