Hi there, I'm going to be running a slaanesh chaos lord (yes, I realize daemon princes are better for the cost and have lash to boot, but everyone i play has psychic hoods etc.) for fluff reasons. I'd like to run him with a blissgiver, however, upon reading the codex arming a terminator lord with a daemon weapon versus a power armor lord is only 15 points difference. SO: people of dakka who are more experienced and tactical than myself, I pose the question: should I spring for the terminator armor, or just stick with power armor and put the 15 points elsewhere?

My mental dialogue is this:

the terminator armor is nice both for surviving dakka AND the fact that I'll have a mediocre invulnerable save via the terminator armor to help against hidden fists, krak missiles, etc.

However, at initiative six I'm curious as to whether I should just leave him in power armor since whatever he's hitting might ID him with power weapons anyway at which point I've wasted 15 points.

you could just go with the version you prefer the look of, effectiveness is probably the least important thing

I'd say it depends - If you've got terminators then have your lord lead them in terminator armour, I keep 2 lords, one in TDA and the other in PA.

Terminator armor doesn't improve a Chaos Lords invulnerable save. However, it does help you go from a 5++ to a 2+ versus AP 3 weaponry.

I agree that you should just go with what looks better since you're using him for fluff reasons anyway. With that in mind, Power Armor would be better because you A) will be slimmer and B) will not be slowed down by Terminator armor. With Terminator armor you couldn't make sweeping advances, for instance, and couldn't embark in Rhinos. I think a Slaanesh Lord would be a little annoyed by that.

I enjoy deploying 3-4 slaneesh worshiping terminators with dual lightning claws in a land raider, you could throw the lord in with them if you need mobility for his terminator armor. you could also throw him on a bike or steed of slaneesh for speed. looks like you want to use him in melee so what ever gets him there faster.

Personally I run mine in terminator armor, but not being able to sweeping advance is a serious drawback. My primary concern is how the CL going to get into combat. If you run a landraider, then use the terminator armor... Otherwise deal with the power armor in a rhino.

I say Termie armor just because I'm a fan of that type of armor. Actually if you're running Khorne, PA with a Juggernaught is always cool looking.

Probably go with power armour but they both have their pros and cons

Power Armour
Pros
Sweeping advance - awesome at I6
Transport can fit in a rhino
Cons
Missile launchers (S8 AP3) will eat him
Less resilient to small arms fire

Termie Armour
Pros
Resilience ahoy to most shooting (won't stop a lascannon)
Cons
Transport become an issue unless your running a land raider
Can't Sweeping advance

It would be awesome with a squad of LC termies in a LR however

Sweeping Advance against Space Marines can be a liability. You have a better chance of letting them break and then escorting them off the table.

Sorry but I'd stay away from a Chaos Lord as he can be instantly killed.
Take winged DPs in smaller pt games and Slaaneshi Sorcerers in larger ones (hiding in Rhinos).

The original post said he wanted to stick with a lord for fluff reasons. But as far as in response I agree with the above I usually stick with PA unless I'm bringing a land raider, taking chances with deepstrike can be fun though.

Slaaneshi Lord = Power Armor.

You want to be able to SA with I6, BP+PW, Daemon weapon, or dual Claws is also a Good Idea.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

The plastic termie lord is AWESOME thou. I used to always run with terminator armor back in the day when my lord had the gift of chaos thingie that made him eternal warrior. However i learne that in 5th your save is always against other chars or squads or MC with PW in cc its rare (at least for me) for a lord to be shooted at on a squad.

In short vs the wounds that really matter the only save youll have is 5++. For looks thou i always run a moded abaddon from the lord kit.

You could also give the PA lord wings so he can either hangout with some Raptors, keep up with a Rhino wall, or chill in a Rhino if need me.

I run with a PA Slaanesh Lord with a blissgiver. And he is a force to be reckoned with. Granted, he runs with 9 Berzerkers and they come out of a Land Raider. I'd say PA because of the sweeping advance, he ensures that what you run into will die when charging, mostly kill whatever charges you, or run down whatever you break.

From personal experience, and I know this was a real luck, but my Lord took down 2 Trygons on his own in one swing. Epic win right there.

Where you least expect it...

Id say power armour scince either you are A) using him with a Termie unit and can aloccate wounds on Termies and use him to sweep or B) hes with a unit that has PA, and then they are going to be in a rhino or have wings, in wich case he needs to have PA. That said, he can be singeld by another special carecter and them Termie armor can come in handy. Id stil use PA though

If he is attached to a unit of terminators the unit can't sweeping advance. SA uses the most restrictive rule of the unit.
