I'm having a hard time playing against my friends wyches. Every other unit I can handle, but wyches can charge such a huge distance and decimate something in CC. I can't get near objectives when they are camped out there. Shooting them isn't always an option because of cover, FNP, and sometimes the webway portal releases them into the middle of the field.

Dreadnoughts worked for one game and they have carried haywire grenades since then.

I guess flamer and whirlwinds are what I'm going to have to use...

I play BA. Sometimes I have rhinos, sometimes I have jump troops. Rhino's never last long because of all the blasters and heat lances, and dark lances, etc.

I was thinking about razorbacks with TL Heavy Flamers.

As someone that plays a wyche heavy army I hate when my opponent destroys their transport. Usually flamers and mass bolter shots make short work of them as well.

Speaking as a frequent employer of the druggies, I'd say a death company or furioso dreadnought would be awesome for handling wyches. Their nades only hit you on a 6 and they only pen on a 6. Knock em out of their paper airplane, maybe kill a few as you close the distance, and blood talon em up. AW BAWWW ONE OF EM GLANCED ME I ONLY GET 4 ATTACKS NOW BAWW. Nice FNP girls chopchopchop

Burn them; burn them all.

Honestly, if you are specifically having trouble with something, the logical thing to do is take specific action to nuetralize that threat. If you re doing fine againse Mech, then consider dropping a few Meltas and taking some flamers. Problem solved.

I always consider Orks, Nids, DE, and Foot Guard when building a list, and as such, I always include a few flamers to handle them. "High Str, Low AP" weapons are great until you face an army of lots guys with crappy armor, especially when they are in cover...this is where cover ingoring weapons come into play.

Remember this important lesson form Monty Python, and you will do well...
"What do we do with Wytches?"
"Burn them!!!"
"What do we burn apart from Wytches?"
"More Wytches!!!"

Your playing BA, and you are getting torn up by wyches? there is something horribly wrong here.

The basic assault marines should be enough to deal with them. If they brought a homunculus with them for the free FNP, dont you think its time you brought your own FNP with priests?

Even with I6 and 4+ save, they should still fold to them because they need 5's to wound, a huge disadvatange, especially if wyches are only T3.

There are 2 kinds of Dakka members: People who just think the game and people who actually play the game. Which one are you?

shoot the ever loving holy heck outa them. they wont be hiding in cover the whole game, otherwise they arent effective. so feed them a small unit to bait them outa cover then just open up with bolter fire. failing that, shoot down the transport, or charge them with your own units. TH/SS termies work well, since they wound you on 5's, and your hitting them on 4 and wounding on 1, and ignoring any fnp they bring. plus, your 2+/3+ saves should hold out long enough to see the job done. just watch out for the venoms or any splinter weapons. ive seen this used, and used it myself. dual sc venoms, with TB using carbines can do BAD things to a termie squad. SS or not.

The real problem is when a webway portal is in a key area and I can't get close without some wyches jumping out. If I wait until all reserves are in, I lose the time I need to get control of that objective.

The grenades are worse than you think. Once you've been stunned or immobilized, they only need a four to hit you, and the 4++ really puts a halt to too much blood talon shenanigans.

I should have been more specific. I love shooting down the raiders with my riflemen.


But I need to get control of a webway area and be able to take the wyches charging out. And yes they have FNP.

Have you tried Flamestorm cannons at all? Str 6 ensures no FNP, and range template gets rid of the ever pervasive cover save issue.

Also, DarthSpader truly does have it. Shoot them as much as you can. I know as a BA player that packing non assault marines is odd, but the wyches can tarpit like nobody's business. Sure they'll have their FNP on most things, but it's better than trying to assault them and wipe them off the board in quick order. Also, you have your own FNP tarpit bastards in the form of DC. DC on the charge hit on 3's and wound on 2's against wyches after all. They admittedly go down as easy as any marine to power weapons, but a wych squad can only have one of those per unit which will likely cause a mere 1 wound a turn.

Another thing, they seem to be deploying by webway portal, as a BA player you're likely meched up or full of jump packs. So in short, you're just as fast as them. So stay away from them and pick your fights whenever you can. I know it's obvious advice, but they can't always be fighting you when they want when you have BA mobility.

Anyway, I'd still like to see a list if you're ever able, and good going with the riflemen. They look good and no doubt make raiders die like crazy.

where are you from? Finland? Country between sweden and Russia? Never heard.

My friend plays DE and I face wyches but they are no problem for me.
I just trow in my termies and they just die.
TH/SS is good but heavy flamer can kill A LOT of them and trow in one priest and you got some FNP termis ( As DA player I know how good they can be )
And flamestom cannons should work too.

another thing to consider: if hes using a wwp, it must be dropped by a character. shoot that character at all costs! if hes in transport make darn sure its not moving, or doing anything if possible. make the character walk, and since it will be T3 like everything else, and likley 4+ at best (unless archon with shadow field - and even then) just bolter them to death. yea she might have a 2+ save..... but make her take 16 saves and im willing to bet she goes down. removing the WWP or at least forcing the DE to seriously reconsider marching through your wall of bullets to deploy it will hamper the wyches (and anything else) that will hop out of it. kill the character holding the portal before its dropped and the DE are now facing walking on from their board edge.... nuff said.

edit: thats one reason i dont like wwp. too much hassle and farting around to get it in place, and if the game changes or your character gets shot down, battle plan pretty much fails. i prefer the venom spam idea. EVERYTHING rides in venoms, and focuses on ranged firepower. i might bring a archon along to deal some pain in CC, but otherwise everything just shoots. plus the speed of the venoms makes the list very versatile and adaptive.

This, I would think, particularly with the priest nearby. Give them a salvo of BP rounds and then charge them? Even ultramarine tactical squads seem to do OK against them unless they take a salvo of good splinter pistol fire before being charged, I cannot imagine that BA ASM would do worse.

Well, when you play a mech BA army with all those fast tanks and transports you should be able to deal with DE skimmers.
For this, you keep your parking lot together and move towards the center where you can bring your weapons to bear.
The tanks in front move smoke while the tanks behind shoot the crap out of the enemy. In the next turn, you gonna reverse the situation.

Yeah I play Eldar and DE, mass low str shots, my friend brings devastators with as many Heavy Bolters as possible, not only do they rip my Paper airplanes apart, but they tear me a new A@# Hole in all areas of my army. If you can, try it, if not don't worry(He is Vanilla marines and often runs all his homo's with lysanders)

Can your army take thunderfire cannons? I have seen vanilla with 5-men dev sit in cover reinforced by the tech priest of the thunderfire. I bet that is a great way to pop those paper skiffs while having 3+ cover saves against the angry retaliation of venoms and DLs.

QFT. Rifleman are the best tool to kill AV 10 in the game. If you crack the raiders early and often, then the wytches are not as effective.

As was mentioned, a webway portal list can be a different beast.

Shoot the hell out of them. Their rides are made of tinfoil held together by paperclips and bubblegum. And they're open-topped. If you bring enough guns, you should be able to force most of them to walk, easy. And you have tons of jump troops and fast vehicles. So once you bust their ride, just zip up and BURN THE WYTCHES!
