In my search of various types of miniatures, it is very common that they dont come with bases since there are indeed dozens of companies that do supply various bases. Of course this means that each company is different with some making scenic resin bases while others make plane jane bases for cheap. I'm in search of the latter kind, not really caring what type of material as long as its solid for the figures you would put on it. I am primarily looking for 20mm squares and US based if possible.

Here's an article on bases with a number of providers.
Here is 30 for $4.00. (I've never ordered from them)

Litko and Gale Force 9 both sell laser cut wooden bases.
Rendra makes plastic bases (much like the linked WGF). Architects of War has them in stock in the US. http://www.architectsofwar.com/figurebases.aspx

Armskeeper. I had exactly your problem in making my VC and Empire armies, and they have the cheapest stuff that ( imo) is identical to GW bases as far as I can tell. Only issue is they don't provide any of the fancier chariot/ MC/Monster bases, and only go up to 50mm. Other than that, knock yourself out.

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

He means that is located in the US and/or ships from the US, I think. To save shipping.

That could be fun. Scenic resin bases filled with bud light cans, McDonalds wrappers, and errant handguns. All tossed aside in corn fields.
I'd buy some.

Non adhesive vinyl floor tiles.
If you can find them they are dirt cheap, and then you just cut them to size.
You can even get them for free if you ask a carpet fitter for the off cuts.
