The Dreadknight concept is a pretty basic one for a robotic suit and not really unique. As others have said we´ve seen similar ones in Avatar, Aliens, Matrix and so on allready.
I think the Dreadknight looks like a lot of things. The idea of a person wearing an exosuit is actually becoming a reality from a few articles I've seen on research technology of the last couple of years.
THIS IS JUST IN! GamesWorkshop reported to shamelessly rip off works of fiction and reality! As our sources suggest, most of GamesWorkshop Inc. Plc. HOBBY(TM)'s IP is actually stolen.
In other news: Dogs reported to have four legs.
pfff...warhammer 40k is the backbone of thousands of sci-fi story's etc. its a dead end if you compare every thing to something from games-workshop,its all the same...
T.
All of GW's sci-Fi stuff is to some extent stolen. The early background of 40k, with the stories of the primarchs and the Emperors chosen son turning against him, is almost exactly like the story of Satan turning against God.
All of the Primarchs are named after either Writers/Poets ( Lion 'El Johnson) or Angels (Abbadon).
As has been noted earlier, in this day and age, there are no new ideas.......
I think when it comes to mech walkers they are all quite similar, especially human designed bipedal ones.
This one time at school I was set an art project to design a human bipedal walker.
I wanted to get away from the hackneyed traditional look, so I gave it a long streamlined body with propellors at the back. Then I replaced the torso, head and arms with an armoured superstructure with a tower and gun turrets and cranes.
The art of getting away without being sued by the owners of the copyrighted material that you were "inspired by" seems to be getting harder these days.
I suppose there must be a tipping point in each case where you can cross over into grounds for a lawsuit, but spotting it might be tough.
I wonder if in the past there was a clear need to prove that something was lifted from the IP to go to court over the whole thing, but based on the way the legal culture seems headed, could we be passing into an age where the argument becomes based on the "spirit" of the IP rather than actual visible theft?
IMHO: I don't find it at all surprising that a company like GW is so brutal with potential IP theft (which, after all is their right) when you consider how much "borrowing" they did themselves on the way to creating the 40k universe you see today.
I remember something about a Malekith king of the Dark Elves from marvels Thor and GW just making off with that. But i am sure marvel knew and didnt give a crap.
All these facetious replies forget one thing. GW "protects " it's "IP" with lawsuits. Case in point Lammasu, GW doesn't fething own this and never will, but have sued.On what ground, i dunno, if you reproduce a sculpt along traditional lines, you don't own gak.
Games workshop , when it comes to sci-fi you don't own crap.Grimdark = almost every sci-fi novel...burned.
Space warriors = starship trooper...burned
Tyranids = aliens , Go on sue em ,GW sue em!...triple burned
FFS GW feth off, you are so original and all.
Actually, the Dreadknight looks like the "Ironmonger" suit in Iron Man 1.
As for IP... stormtroopers anyone?

Are you talking about the movie? IG and Tyranids already existed at that point. Eh, I would still say that GW got the idea of Space Marines from Starship Troopers, the book .
As for Dreadnight inspirations, am I the only one that remembers the Exo Squad cartoon?
