So I went to my local hobby shop to inquire about getting into fantasy, particularly with hopes of putting together an Ogre army. Unfortunately (for me)/ Fortunately (for ogres) I found out that they will be getting resculpts and a new codex in a month or so according to White Dwarf.

I am still highly anxious to get and paint some models before then and so I wanted to know if anyone has info on which models won't get re-sculpted. I imagine something like Bulls which are a core unit would be in the new edition as well for example and may not get any new design?

Anyway I was just hoping maybe there is some unit I could buy to start off with as far as painting goes. I already ordered a fantasy starter set for the rule book, and have the rest of summer to paint up some troops at my leisure. Any help is appreciated!

Word on the street is that the only minis which *might* be redone are:
Iron Guts (my guess is that they are getting repackaged rather than resculpted)
Maneaters
Butcher/Tyrant/Hunter
Gorger
Yhetees
Scraplauncher

Yea I figured they wouldn't bother with Bulls or Gnoblers,

The owner of my hobby shop said mostly the metal models probably, cause they are trying to go to resin?

Yeah, the metals are going to finecast mostly, a couple things are going plastic (Yhetees and scraplauncher supposedly).

So I guess my real question is then, is it likely i'll regret buying an ogre battalion before they update things (i.e. will these models pretty much be the same or at least still in the ogre codex)? Thanks so far with your help guys, i know i'm stabbing in the dark.

lets put it this way, you'll probably regret NOT buying the Ogre Battalion...

Through the looking glass

I'd like to remain optimistic. I've picked up two battalions in the past year, and I've already made good progress on finishing the first in the past week or so. Considering that ogres aren't popular because people don't like the fluff about them, they might not be such a scam. I mean I sort of thought that's why they are the best deal right now, because they are one of the less popular armies. So maybe GW might think new sculpts plus the same or better deal might make them more money than just continuing with the current trend of expecting people to already like them coupled with those who jump on new codices.

I'm probably wrong, but I'm willing to have faith in my lovable walls of fat, muscle, and hunger.

Ok so from the sound of it, most people seem to think the core ogre units will not be re-casted but the others will. I'm leaning towards buying the battalion and if any happen to get new sculpts - intermingling. Thanks guys

Think of it this way, there is extremely little chance they will make the old models illegal. Old models+new models makes your army look better because everything is more varied. With a little work you can make about 4+ poses for regular bull without using iron gut bits.

Lets put it this way, the current Ogre plastics are widely regarded as some of the best plastic minis GW has ever produced... and given that they

1. aren't spesh mareenz and
2. are less than a decade old

I doubt they're going to be redone.

Just had a look on the GW website for the Ogre Batallion to get some before the new releases, and it's gone, I assume sent away for repackaging to justify a £20 price hike... hmm.

Battalion ordered

I decided I like the look of these models anyway, GW won't take them out of the codex since they are really core units, and I can mix and match later. I just need something to paint, i'm a painting junkie!

Thanks again guys! you were all very helpful, now i need to stalk the rumor thread till next month's release!

I second this. The pro move is to scoop them up while you can.
