Nottingham (yay!)

So as long as a unit is within M+12" (max possible charge distance), your Terror-causing beastie can declare a charge and force it to take a test, right?

Think I can see why my Night Goblins are soooo much cheaper now

This is correct

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Yup. So a 60 point wraith that is in a unit of ghouls who made a pregame move (via ghoul kin), could charge out of the unit on turn 1, and force a terror test on an enemy in his own deployment zone.
8" pregame + M6 +2D6 = max 26" charge.

Except that Wraiths can't join ghouls.

/nitpick

However, a terror causing Vampire (through an item or Bloodline ability) could do the same

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

They can't? Not even the new WD hero version?

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I have no idea to the WD version. I refuse to get extorted for that... thing.

Yes, wraiths can join other units.

The character version probably can join units, but your standard one probably can't

Yeah, that's what i meant.

Definitely cant, as it isnt a character, and only characters can join units.

The chances of a unit failing a terror test is pretty remote anyway.

And i find it really strange that you dont need to take a LD test to charge a terror target. That would have made it more useful.

Yes, that is just plain odd. I had to re-read Terror many times as I thought I was missing it.

Wraiths and Banshees most deffinately can join other units as long as you take them as Hero choices according to the "Official" codex update in the new WD.

Actually, a friend pointed this out to me and i can't believe it slipped my mind earlier. Banshees and Wraiths are ethereal sooo...yeah...just sayin.

Just saying...what exactly? There isnt a rule that Ethereal creatures cant join units. The rulebook just says that Characters that are not ethereal cant join ethereal units.

Ah just realized how stupi that was. Forgot they are Characters now according to the rules.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Even still, it says a character cant join ethereal units unless they are ethereal but doesnt say an ethereal character cant join normal units. The VC codex does say that Vampires with the Ethereal power cant join normal units though..

An etheral character joining a non etheral unit effectively gives up his etherallness (I realize thats not a word) by joining the unit. All you have to do is pour your attacks into the ghouls, and the crumble test at the end of the combat WILL affect the character. It becomes an easier way to kill the etheral character. Thats only if the character stays in that unit of course.

2,000 - He alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood.
2,500 - Order. Unity. Obedience.

As long as the character is in a unit, only the unit will take the crumble. He wont take it separately unless he somehow becomes detached from the unit.

You pick up ranks with ghouls, along with the ghouls ability to kill things for combat res.
Ghouls are a hell of a lot easier to replace with invoc.

Wraith + ghouls seems like a happy balance between hard to kill, and doing enough damage to win.

Thats what I was implying. I may have worded it a little off. The unit as a whole will take the crumble tests. Ghouls are generally far easier to kill than say an etheral hero. Any left over wounds from crumbling will fall onto the character after they have been allocated to any remaining ghouls in the unit.

The tradeoff being exactly what Matt said. Ghouls provide some CR for the character, and some ability to kill stuff. The etheral hero has some protection from combat res, but at the same time the opponent now has a way to kill him if they didn't have magic items to do so.
