dsteingass - Thanks!
DiDDe - Thanks!

I must apologize for yesterday as I was too sick to paint. However tonight I made up for it!
First up I drybrushed the speeder bases with some silver and gave them some spot colors

next up is sandy bottoms.

Next up I painted 4 old book holding familiars

then 2 metal birds and a book with legs familiar

then 3 empire banner familiars, and 2 servo skulls

and finally the termi-lord familiar

And put the bone down on the other servo skulls

When these are finished it will bring my familiar/servo skull total to somewhere in the 60s. I look forward to the day I can play an apoc game and explain to my opponent that the little bases all over the battlefield are places he shouldn't deepstrike near.

Over the past 2 nights I haven't gotten much accomplished. Wednesday night is my gaming night and Thursday I managed to get some dreads assembled but nothing painted.

Well I started off tonight by priming those 5 psyrifile dreads which I will need for a tournament tomorrow (3/24)

While those dried I was able to finish off the servo skulls

In between waiting for layers of paint on the skulls to dry I added some more colors to my old Lelith Conversion

and finished off an old mini I'd been working on and off on for a few months.

After those were finished I decided to drybrush the leather highlights on my Kasrkin stormtroopers. At work last week I was able to get all of my 3rd ed stormtroopers highlights done and tonight I finished the kasrkin.
I've also been able to get all the steel legion pictured earlier highlighted and 1/2 of the "misc" guardsmen.

Well Saturday's tournament was fun. Round one paired up against my friend Spellbound's Emperor's Children and got beat (by 200 vps) next game against Eldar, I stole the initiative and psyifiled him of the table. Game 3 I played my friend Joel and Psifiled his Dark Eldar off the table. This was a 1850 Tournament and allowed me to test nearly my whole BoLSCon list.

While there I purchased the last of the deathcult assassins I'm going to need, got home and assembled them. Then decided to prime them and all the crusaders.

Then Sunday I decided to paint the last of Vulkan's command squad (and another command squad).

All and all a productive weekend.

Well Monday I met up with my friends John and Joel (of being Psy-fled fame) and painted the red on all of my assassins and crusaders

And last night I got the boots painted on my crusaders. For those who don't know there are 50 crusaders and 50 assassins in that lot.

Well I've decided to do a weekly update instead of daily ones.
First I was able to get more red, and the metals down on my crusaders and death cult assassins!

I also finished the earlier set of purity seals

And then took another set of purity seals and finished them.

I also played a ~10k per side apoc game Saturday

I fielded a baneblade, a stormblade, 3 landraiders, 30 Ultramarines Honor Guard, Marenus Calgar, and Pedro Cantor.

Awesome work! You are a machine!

Can you talk a little more about your crusaders and the DCA?

You did mention the crusader shields are maximini, and the DCA are Dark Elf corsair, but can you talk about about those choices of minis (besides cost, why and how did you pick those models) and any conversions on them.

thanks for the updates!!

dsteingass - Thanks!

Rogue Wolves - Thanks!

DiDDe - Thanks!

davethepak - Thanks! The crusader minis are Men at Arms from the bretonian line. A few of them got maxmini shields because you get 15 bodies and 14 shields. The choice for minis was purely cost. One of my friends is using wingless Dark Eldar scourges for death cult assassins, while nice models they are really expensive. Corsairs are 10 for $25. The only conversion the corsairs have is the Puppets War G-Unit heads I attach later in this post.

Well friends another week another pile of models!
This week I was able to get the cloaks for the assassins drybrushed and do a ton of touch ups. On Friday my heads came in from Puppets War and I attached them and basecoated them. Sunday was a flurry of painting as I finished them and the crusaders.

The crusaders still need decals on their shields, but painting is done.

During the week I got bored painting and touching up red/metal/black and painted some ultramarines

As I was finishing them up the new GW paints were released and eager to try out some new techniques I picked up the dry "Griffon Gold" which I drybrushed on a libby's staff head over P3's Rhulic Gold (my usual gold of choice)

A picture of the rhulic gold with a mud wash by itself (my usual gold recipe).

I rather like the outcome of the new paint over my old style and look forward to trying GWs other golds and other types of paint.
I was also able to finish the leather highlights on all my guardsmen and do the khaki highlights on the misc guardsmen.

Well my friends this week was not as productive.
I started off Saturday by deciding to try out GWs new paints for red and white. After a $100 trip to Hobby Town for paints and the new how to paint book. I had a decent idea.
Next up was me feeling kinda bad for not painting much so I decided to finish that Lelith conversion

and an ass shot for John

Between waiting for her to dry and waiting for the test shoulder pads to dry I decided to get some basic colors down on some marines I had laying around.

Before I head off to Wargames Con I'm going to the Alamo GT on the 19th of May. In preparation for that event I needed to get my GKs cleaned up. First up was fixing the rhinos they'll be using.

Next using the fancy new GW how to paint book I tried out some new shoulder pad markings.

Then when I was happy I painted a test model in each

Then touched up the GKs I'll need for the event

While waiting for them to dry I was able to finish off the marines I'd been working on.

I also got some base colors on my Honor Guard

While finishing those up I decided to try and finish off the Khador Man-O-War I had primed earlier. He would be a good test as to how that red primer accepts paints. I suppose I should start a "Painting for the Empress" blog now

Well during work this week I was able to get a few minor colors on some Servitors and this weekend I finished them off.

Then I worked some more on the Honor Guard. They'd be done except for the fact that I wasn't happy with the way the cloaks were turning out so I repainted them all:

Well another week closer to Alamo GT and Wargames Con 2012 and I got some more painting done!

First up I worked on my GK dreads.

While waiting for them to dry I put down some colors on all the GK dread arms in my bitsbox.

And a preview for my opponents

While those dried I put down some colors on a Coteaz for a tournament list later.

And since most of that painting was done in washes or enamel paints while waiting for them to dry I put down the finishing touches on the honor guard

Rogue Wolves - Thanks! I honestly don't know how many minis I have. I just try to keep track of the painted ones.

DiDDe - Thanks! I don't have enough flat space in my house for that. Now that doesn't mean I have a ton of minis (which I do) it just means I have a messy house. I'm still working on the warhounds. Check the link in my sig to see their few and far between updates.

HAZZER - Thanks!

Well while waiting for some touch ups on dreads to dry I was able to paint 2 commissars and 2 chaplains

So after my usual gaming this weekend I was able to trade some of my old wood elves for a box of Grey Knight Terminators. So I got to have fun assembling some new minis and updating old ones. First up was updating an old GK with a new nemesis stick.

Then I added a halberd and sword to a couple of the termi libbys

A while ago a friend of mine traded me some extra apothecary bits so I built 2 apothecary's from the box

Started my unit of hammer paladins

And started the falchion unit of paladins

In between waiting for them to dry I was able to finish of Coteaz

And base the dreads

Finally I forgot my list needed an inquisitor with combi-melta so I built and painted one. A few more touch ups and a base and he'll be done.

Well friends while being at a tournament this weekend I was unable to do a ton of painting so I give you pictures of some of my figs.
The 1st Company's Terminators as they stand right now:

A friend just sold me a few more terminators, which brings my total to 115, this will allow me to field
30 Th/SS Termis
30 LC Termis
24 Stormbolter termis
12 Cyclone Termis
12 Assault Cannon Termies
12 Heavy Flamer Termis
10 Command Squad Termis
Assorted Captains/Chaplains/Librarians/ICs

The power armored contingent of the 1st company.

Sternguard:

Vanguard with/waiting on jump packs:

Walking Vanguard:

And we'll wrap up this week with a quick after action report from the Alamo GT
Not really a batrep per say but some of my observations.
The venue is amazing. Playing a GT in a bar is a blast and leads to a different kind of atmosphere. Air wasn't too bad either. Some people got smelly but it was a decent temperature all along.
Count as was king. I can't count the number of mish/mash armies. From the 4 colored Rhino GKs (with bolt pistol scouts for henchmen) to the Ironwarrior "greyhunters" with space wolf long fangs in blood angel rhinos I played round 4, and top that off with the Night Lords Blood Angels.
Judges were easily available. Very rarely did I hear someone have to scream for a judge 2 times.
Terrain was sparse. I was listening in on a few conversations between the TO and the BoLS guys, apparently the TO was strapped for terrain and asked them to bring some more terrain. They showed up with their nice vacuform buildings and everyone was happy. Except these were not evenly deployed across all tables. Some tables got 1, some tables got 2, and a few got 6.

Game 1 vs Grey Knights.
This was the table

Notice anything wrong with it? I played the best GK player in the country on this... going second. I siezed the initiative and was told by an ass in gold armor to re roll it and failed. I deployed on the table in hopes he'd roll average and kill 2-3 vehicles. He rolled above average and wasted all my rhinos. My turn 1 the rest of my stuff shot a storm raven and it took most of it to down the plane. I called it having only killed the raven. He took secondary and felt bad so bought me lunch.

Game 2 vs Leaf Blower.
Seriously can I get a break here?! I walk up to the table wondering why the Emperor is testing me so much and my opponent says "Hey want a beer" I said "you buy round 1 and I'll get round 2". We then proceeded to have one of the best games of 40k in my life. Being tiehammer (with spearhead for extra tie-ness) we were in for a tie. He reserved 2 vendettas with shotgun/melta/demo vets, and castled up. I realized I wasn't breaking that castle and castled myself but kept semi mobile. I kinda harassed him killed somethings then the vendettas come on. One comes on turboboosting and takes a rifle dread to the face. The vets crash out and get 12" away from the vindicare. They unload with everything and cause 2 wounds, which I save. Queue the twilight zone music because everything that happened in that quarter was not of this world. Crowe charged the vets next turn and set 2 on fire... they SAVED. They strike back and miss. Drawn combat... these things don't happen.

Vendetta 2 shows up, shoots 1 lascannon that misses and Crowe kills the unit. He'd taken out 3 rhinos by the end and the other gets popped in front of his lines. I just can't make it to his flag and we tied. Secondary was get units in non-deployment quarters which I take.

Game 3 vs Dark Eldar.
Usual Dark Eldar but swap the blaster born for splinter cannon born, and wracks for troops. My opponent started by explaining that he "doesn't play 40k much" when ever someone tells you this there's a reason, most times it isn't because they're being honest.
We go through 2 turns of me shooting at his vehicles (flicker fields on all, night shields on the 3 ravagers) and I notice they're not dieing. Like no where near enough, then it hits me not only is he making 50% of his saves... they're not open topped?! I express this and he said "Oh I just thought you knew and was taking everything you told me as the damage." From that turn on his paper planes fell like they should. He also killed a unit with a venom then tried to give the pain token to the unit inside. I won 9 kill points to 5. No one took secondary.

We went out to dinner and saw Avengers.

Game 4 vs Space Wolves.
Well thats what the list said, and it was led by Logan Grimar. However 2 of his 4 rhinos were blood angels and 2 of his grey hunter units were iron warriors/non-GW models. This game was back and forth. I didn't move as much as I should and was barely able to eke out a tie with a weaponless immobile rhino within 3" of his objective. He took secondary.

Game 5 vs Blood Angels.
3 las/plas backs, 1 assault cannon back, raven, DC Dread with talons, termis, vindicator, 3 priests, 1 landspeeder, 1 squad of 2 PW, 2 CCW, 1 PF death co in a rhino. Secondary was kill 4 special units, mission was 5 objectives, DoW Deployment. He chose my 3 normal dread and 1 ven dread as targets. I chose raven, speeder, termis, and vindicator.
He deploys the DC Rhino full up field and zooms it over into my empty deployment zone. Turn 1 I pop it focus on the raven. IT LIVES THROUGH EVERYTHING till turn 2 when it dies. Dread charged a rhino then ate a turbo penetrator, raven dropped the termis/libby/priest in my lines and they died to a huge combined charge. I was on the ropes until about turn 3 when I killed nearly everything in my face. I had walked everything but the 3 normal dreads on the right flank, the dreads were on the left trying to get shots on stuff but basically he spent the entire game trying to kill the ven dread he'd chosen instead of trying to get objectives. I was able to sneak 2 remaining purifiers onto 1 objective, a full rhino onto another, and shoot him off of one of his. I wasn't able to kill his weaponless immobile vindicator or a unit of marines, but he wasn't able to kill anything but 3 rhinos and 2 units of purifiers. The red thirst took over for him but he really under committed trying to kill my army. He had kept most of the razors back to take objectives and over committed on certain things. It was a fun game though.
So I went 2/2/1 I think I ended up about the middle of the pack judging from a quick look at postings but they'll post them in a few days.

Here's some scattered pics from the event:
My stuff:

Blood angels?!

littleman_2009 - Thanks! The majority of the dreads are coming out of the list for the dreadknights I built last year.

Eagle390 - Thanks!

Well friends I apologize for the long delay. On 6/1 I was at a GT (didn't win but won a raffle for a dakkajet which I traded in for a storm talon), and another mega game (pictures later). But do not fear as I have been painting. First up was getting the stormtroopers from January almost finished. They need squad decals and they'll be done. Over the past 2 weeks I've painted guns, power cables, silver details and lenses on over 90 stormtroopers and I can't wait to finish them! I've also been working on a new commission for a friend and I've gotten 1 squad of Ultramarines Devestators done and a few crimson fist characters started.
I also took some pictures of the majority of the 2nd and 3rd company.

3rd Co. Deployed as Multimelta Meltagun

Not Pictured: Librarian Headache, 6 Normal Dreads

My play group decided to have an apoc game as a welcome back and see ya later for a friend of ours. I decided to deploy the entire Ultramarines first company!
My forces:

Pictures from the game:

In the end I think I lost maybe 25 terminators, and 10 of those were to a mishap.

During this game I found out that everyone is scared of 103 deepstriking terminators. Also mawlocs that tunnel up in the middle of 70ish terminators on turn 4 to contest the objective and tie the game... SUCK!

Well friends its has been a long time since I've posted an update. So I will only focus on my 2013 progress.

I finally moved out of my parents house and while this has cut down on the number of tools at my disposal it has allowed me to organize a painting group with my friends.

My goals since moving out have been to finish all of the projects that were "almost done" and then move onto those that were "started but never finished. Of course I'll also be putting some things that I need for tournament play in there as well!

First I fixed all my broken space marines. This totaled about 50 odd marines through the years of playing. I even converted a few so they fit better in my battlefoam.
I then took stock of all of the members of the 3rd company who were missing shoulder pads and parchments and finished them off.
Next I based all of the 3rd company and its dreads with the same city theme I've used on other projects.
After that I realized I was tired of repairing 2 or 3 marines from the 8th company every time I went out for a game, so I ripped them all off their custom bases and rebased them on the same city theme as the 3rd.
While I was in a basing mood I took all the Assassins and Crusaders you see pictured above and put them all on round bases, and based them in the city theme.
Late last year my friend had been running the weekly painting days and I had started assembling 4 vindicators then. I finished assembling the main bodies on them, still need to finish the dozer blades.
I've been play testing a new Grey Knight list for this years tournament season and I needed to get a few models switched out for that, so I assembled and basecoated 3 PA Justicars with Halberds, and 3 Hammer PA Grey Knights, as well as 2 storm ravens.
I found a box with the start of the 4th company of Ultramarines (just the tac squads) but they were missing their tactical shoulder pads, and I added them.

So that brings me to today.
I've been wanting to reorg my guard since earlier in this thread when I painted a platoon or so of excess guardsmen. I started out by pulling all my heavy weapons out and taking a tally.
I've always wanted to have 15 of each guard heavy weapon team to go with my apoc sized guard army. So I took some of my bases and started building the missing ones

I've also decided that while pure sand looks nice on bases it is CONSTANTLY falling off and leaving bald spots. So I'm going to try out some sand colored vallejo pumice and see how that works.

Next up is basing all those guardsmen from earlier in the same pumice, then decaling all the non ID'd guardsmen.
