So we disagree. No biggie.

As I said "... had her back been arched it might have looked ok ..."
I.e. you IMHO cannot have a "displaced hip" as in your pic (good find, btw) - and a Meloda-straight back.
Also, when shifting the hip sideways to the left, the right knee should follow, etc. etc.

It has *nothing* to do with "her thighs being too fat" (which they obviously are not).
The mini just looks awkward posed (put together by Frankenstein parts), like her upper body is crammed into a stiff ventilation pipe - and overall rather crap-ish.
More "off-key" than "melody/Meloda"...
Sorry.

*****Note that this is judging from a single picture - Meloda could very well be much better (or worse).
Judging from the whole line I would strongly suggest (hope) that Melstrom focused on the BaneBeasts - where they are second to none.
Human(oid)s - not so much.

I dunno, armor makes people look weird sometimes. Women especially, since the thickness of the armor and general shape do a lot to hide the form, given that it is a non trivial proportion of many female thicknesses and doesn't follow their curves. In my experience, unless a woman is very tall, armor does often make them look a bit like they are wearing a barrel, unless it is very flimsy or extremely well made. Even chain mail tends to hang strangely and distort their shape.

I will judge the miniature when I see it, though a few shots of the unpainted figure would help too.

I'm imagining now that you have some kind of job where you get paid for women to model different kinds of armor for you all day, meaning you have possibly the 4th best job in the world.

Please don't tell me if I'm wrong. Let me have my illusions.

@Kendoka the fact that the heavy sword is on her back the natural pose of arched torso is altered... as for leg torso ratio heres one example of how diverse the human body can be...

Its Ok we both have different views on this but I believe your tweaks would make this women look like a small girl or boy with no feminine hips... I would change the neck but its a minor thing that doesn't change IMO the fact its a competent miniature sculpt.

"Its Ok we both have different views on this but I believe your tweaks would make this women look like a small girl or boy with no feminine hips... I would change the neck but its a minor thing that doesn't change IMO the fact its a competent miniature sculpt."

Also -- the difference between women in fantasy art and women in real life.

"On the original sculpt, follow the lines of the inside of the thighs up to where they would meet (under the loin cloth) and you'll see a strange displacement (sideways)"

I'm sure (upon reflection) Kendoka realizes that most women have a "strange displacement" in which their pelvis is somewhat wider than the male version (birth canal and all that).

And Maelstrom popped back in and mentioned that the sculpt is based on a real woman, hopefully she doesn't feel too bad about her proportions being "wrong."

10k pts Eldar (no jetbikes -- how is that possible?)

2k pts 3rd edition Wolves (no werewolves or clifford cavalry -- but I do have a nifty Leman Russ Exterminator shaped paperweight)

Afaik her name is Melody and she is the wife of the guy who runs Maelstrom. So she's pretty much the boss..
Minature wise I have no problem with them continuing the "humanoid" range. I am a big fan of some the the sculptors (and their work obviously) and have been collecting their minis since the early Rackham days. So to see them continue to produce top shelf pieces under the Banelegions banner is definately

And yeah, that paint job on Conjuct really makes it work.

Hi there,

In miniature wargaming land there's a lot more to choose from than just the big games, and we here at Maelstrom Games (www.maelstromgames.co.uk) are a great fan of some of those less well known companies - if only because they're doing something totally different! To celebrate that fact, we're giving you all a superb 18% off UK RRP voucher until next Monday to get you into said alternatives - just so you can try something new for a change! Fancied some of our very own BaneLegions miniatures, or the wyrdness of Malifaux, or the futuristic Infinity, or perhaps even Magic: the Gathering for a while, but couldn't afford it? Now's your chance!

YOUR ALTERNATIVE GAMING VOUCHER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your 18% off UK RRP discount voucher ends on Monday the 3rd of October 2011 at midnight (GMT), and you really do have some superb miniatures and hobby products to spend your hard-earned on - namely:

- BaneLegions
- Dark Age
- Dystopian Wars
- Eden
- Firestorm Armada
- Fantasy Flight Board Games
- Fantasy Flight Living Card Games
- Fantasy Flight Role-Playing Games
- Freebooter's Fate
- Hell Dorado
- Infinity
- Magic: the Gathering
- Malifaux
- MERCS
- Secrets of the Third Reich
- Smog: 1888
- Tale of War
- The Uncharted Seas
You'll note that it's not just miniatures and Magic: the Gathering, either: we also love Fantasy Flight Games' simply superb range of board games, living card games and role-playing games, just because they're so good!

It will work on all the items from the ranges mentioned above within our webstore, but:

- not on anything within our eBay store.

Apart from the above, the voucher will work on pre-orders and, crucially, you'll still earn Moneyback - although tiered discounts are disabled when using a voucher of course.

Your voucher code is: ALTERNATE-GAMER

To use this voucher simply register on the webstore, www.maelstromgames.co.uk (if you haven't already), copy and paste the code into the appropriate field in your basket when you have selected the items you want, press 'REDEEM', and the webstore will do the rest. You are not limited to one purchase and, indeed, we would ask you to recommend us to your friends with this voucher!

Remember though that this voucher is intended for the webstore only - it does not apply to any of our auctions or shop inventory items on eBay.

Happy Ordering!

First Monday of the month and it's BaneLegions time!

DAACHUCH THE BROKEN, SKULL-BEARER OF THE GABRAX
Daachuch the Broken has been skull-bearer, a carrier of kill-trophies, for many seasons and his place within the rudimentary tribal structure of the Gabrax is held with the same iron grip as that of his Tain’s banner. A foul, despicable killer of the enemies of Brunchaath the Vile and therefore Baalor himself, Daachuch earned his name through the myriad of injuries he has taken and overcome, through the bones he has broken in the course of his long warrior’s life, and is an ironic retort to younger Gabrax who covet his position and wish he was indeed broken, that he were meat for the cooking-pots. Daachuch knows that he must fight for his place more than ever and thus he is always at the forefront of battle, earning scars and broken bones so that he can sit at his Tain’s side and enjoy the rich pickings from the weakling bands of men that are sent against the beasts of Baalor and the defenceless villages they leave behind.

VIKTOR CEL RĂU, VOJVOD OF ARDEAL
Viktor cel Rău may have the noble blood from the royal name he bears, but his blood is now cold and he does not bleed. He may be the hereditary ruler, the war-leader of his region, but he does not lead his people to war, nor keep them safe from harm. Viktor cel Rău has succumbed to the curse of his line, the curse that none dare speak of but all remember: the curse of immortality. The pursuit of it has ever fascinated the nobles of Ardeal and it has ever damned them, for everything has its price, and Viktor cel Rău has gladly paid it. His research, his delvings into the libraries of the cursed, only served to inspire him, and his confidantes, his friends, wished to share in the power it would give him – until he took them first. Generations of Ardeliu lived in terror and despair until the curse was lifted many years ago; they are destined to live in fear once more, for Viktor cel Rău, Vojvod of Ardeal, rules over them and will do so for a thousand generations more.

Ooo nice. I recently received my black elf. Absolutely gorgeous sculpt. Very delicate though, I'm really nervous about taking her out of her blister to clean, assemble and paint!

A few questions for you:

- I've noticed a few older sculpts being discontinued. Are all these minis limited in some form. i.e. when the molds wear out, that's it?

- Do you plan on doing anything along the lines of a regiment of some such?

- What about a supporting game or expanded background?

The Beastman standard is brilliant.

'Viktor'... I want to like it, but the way they have based him is throwing me off. I'm trying to look at the detail on the model, and instead I'm just waiting for him to fall over...

Not just you. I agree.
I'm also having an issue with his fingers. They look awfully blunt. Not nearly as claw-like as the pic.
