Hi there,

Well, that went quick! It's the end of our rainy summer here at Maelstrom Games (www.maelstromgames.co.uk), so we thought we'd give you a lovely 17% off UK RRP voucher to ensure you can beat those end of summer blues with some retail therapy!

YOUR END OF SUMMER VOUCHER

Now then. Your 17% off UK RRP discount voucher ends on Monday the 5th of September 2011 at midnight (GMT), and you really do have some superb miniatures and hobby products to spend your hard-earned on!

The voucher will work on all the items within our webstore, but:

- not on any Studio McVey items
- not on any Seeds of War items
- not on any Too Fat Lardies items
- and additionally, not on anything within our eBay store.

Apart from the above, the voucher will work on pre-orders and, crucially, you'll still earn Moneyback - although tiered discounts are disabled when using a voucher of course.

Your voucher code is: SUMMER-END

To use this voucher simply register on the webstore, www.maelstromgames.co.uk (if you haven't already), copy and paste the code into the appropriate field in your basket when you have selected the items you want, press 'REDEEM', and the webstore will do the rest. You are not limited to one purchase and, indeed, we would ask you to recommend us to your friends with this voucher!

Remember though that this voucher is intended for the webstore only - it does not apply to any of our auctions or shop inventory items on eBay.

Happy Ordering!

Also, look out for our post here on Monday - 4 new BaneLords to show you, and the Friday after, a BaneBeast straight out of your freakiest cheese-induced nightmare!

Nice. Just ordered myself some Mantic, Dystopian Wars and a Banelord black elf.

Looking forward to see the new Banelords. Just my luck if they turn out to be more black elfs!

They sure are some great minis and I must admit some of the BaneBeasts really interest me, especially Flint-Fang. As a collector (not gamer) and CSM as my favorite race, I think it can be a good as a giant Chaos Spawn.

Would love to see something like the Warriors of Chaos.

Now for something completely different..........

A suitably nightmarish concept due for release in the month of Halloween.

Conjunct XIII

CONJUNCT XIII, VIVICOCT
The madness that lies within the minds of the Ysians, and in particular their physicians, can be readily seen in the bizarre form of Conjunct XIII. This grotesque vivicoct of krokodile, wyrm, jötunn and an as-yet unidentified creature has proved to be a savage, ignoble brute, capable of smashing shieldwalls apart by sheer force and destroying much larger enemies due simply to its ferocity. Such is Conjunct XIII’s reputation, despite its obvious locomotive limitations, that few levies will stand upon sighting it and most shudder at facing such an unnatural creature, a wrong-beast that simply should not exist, something that the Ysians are exploiting further with more living concoctions, more insane creatures stitched together for use in their man-starved armies. These take many and extraordinary form, joined by methods abhorred by the sane to create beasts that crawl or walk or fly from the newly-dead or the living; for Conjunct XIII, by its very name, is but one of many, and although it is the most infamous of all the Ysian’s vivicocts it is certainly not the only preternatural creature in their armoury.

Conjunct XIII is available for pre-order right now from the Maelstrom Games webstore and his official release date is the 1st of October!

Don't forget our SUMMER-END 17% off RRP voucher runs until Midnight (GMT) Monday the 5th Of September and it applies to pre-orders too!

Damn! Thing looks insane! I think you should do a host of "standard" creatures for folks. A griffon, a hippogriff, that kind of thing.

Make them easy to convert for a rider, or maybe even set it up with an alternate saddle piece.

I'd even love a set up "zombie" creatures. Could be awesome, and your monsters are all top notch!

Maybe it was with purpose they decided to give it a reptilian lower body.

It's a lovely model (in that twisted way that you can't dislike ).

WOW! Love Meloda, actually, and didn't think I would from the art. The sculpt on the face is awesome. Not sure about the paint job, just because the eyes look a bit off, but of course the blending and everything else is ridiculously good.

Also really like the Under-Vermin guy! I like that you make him "well fed" and bigger. Looks very good! Maybe a bit canine in the face, but I'd definitely get him if I had an army of rat-creatures to lead.

Oh wow, Meloda is stupendous! Really gorgeous sculpt. I can see Boadicea-esk conversions with her riding a chariot. Another to add to the want list, next to Magaan and the Black Elf (which I've pre-ordered!). Definitely more anglo-saxon looking and less 80's fantasy art. Always a good thing!

Ophius is not one of the better BaneBeasts. I find the sculpt lacking.

The Conjunct is cool and very well made (although the concept - with a more Frankenstein-stitched up feel - was even better).

Neither the "Pitbull with huge front teeth" nor "warrior woman with extremely strange proportions and anatomy" are even remotely as good as the other miniatures in the BaneX-lines. Actually they are (IMHO) disappointing to say the least.

The rat dude looks very cool but the warrior queen looks very oddly proportioned and does not looks as good a the artwork imo

Conjunct is an excellent rendition of what it is, the only problem is what it is is a thing I've never conceived of before and it has never occurred to me to want to paint it.

Quick-blade is nicely characterful. I like that he almost looks a little pudgy. He's the warlord who eats all the pies. Although it's a very minor point, but since every picture shows his bad eye and not his good, I have this vague notion in my head that he's sleepwalking.

I'm not seeing the bad proportions on Meloda. Apart from her neck perhaps being a little long, but then I'm quite fond of graceful necks and there is an artistic history of enhancing women's necks so it doesn't bug me. I wonder if people are unhappy with her proportions because they aren't GW-scale. The only thing I don't like are the breast cups, but I think those are standing out to me because they are painted a different color. If they were the same color as the rest of the armor I think they'd be fine. Otherwise, I have to say she looks great- she looks sexy without undermining her competency, her armor appears to have weight, and while I can't speak to if the armor is historically accurate, it does look authentic. Well done.

Wow, really digging Meloda! As others have said, it looks very authentic, without the over the top nature of many "barbarian" style ancients. That might have to be my first Banelords purchase!

I ting myself in total agreement.
Granted, the artwork for Meloda isn't quite as good as most artwork in the rest of the line is, but there's just something about her proportions that seem off to me. Not "off" as in, "That model isn't proportioned like I'd expect." More like, "the arms and legs look the wrong size and placement for the body.

The extremities to torso proportions remind me of this old mini:

Yay for old school Ral Partha Ettins!

I don't think it is that bad, but the paint job sort of makes it unclear to the eye where the torso is under all that armor and fur. Note that from the back with just the cape it looks fine. At least to me.

Agreed. I think the problem is that we are so used to fantasy figures (especially women) who wear their armor like one would wear a swimsuit. Meloda's armor appears not only to have thickness, but also is composed of stacked layers. Which means naturally the torso is going to look thicker and the unarmored limbs are going to look thinner by comparison.

Personally, I dig the difference on Meloda compared to figures like WGF's Amazons, whose armor resembles a cutoff t-shirt.

Yeah, I tried to take that into account, but it still just doesn't look right to me.
Now, don't get me wrong... I'm totally in support of models that do NOT have "cookie-cutter" looks to them. So, it's not about that at all. It just looks off to me.
It's not just the limbs; the neck does, too.

As for it looking good from behind... isn't that like saying an ugly person doesn't look as bad in the dark? lol
It doesn't mean they look better, just that you can't see it from here. ; )

Tried to fix the anatomy issues with Meloda:

Shoulders, neck, hips, upper body, chest armor + centered head and torso, etc.
Small tweeks but IMHO a big difference.

I think your tweaks, specially on the hip do not consider the fact the body is packed with gear and clothers around that area... so if you take off the clothes and gear with your version you will have a either a anorectic or male figure...

Well, I might have given her smallish hips (which IMHO fits with her skinny arms and long neck) - but at least they are centered.

On the original sculpt, follow the lines of the inside of the thighs up to where they would meet (under the loin cloth) and you'll see a strange displacement (sideways), had her back been arched it might have looked ok - but not now.
If you "take off the clothes and gear" from the original version you will most likely find that her right leg is separated from the hip...
Also, the neck is displaced to the other side, breast cups are too circular and high, the left arm is bent, the upper body is too long (elbows should reach to hips), etc., etc.

Made in pt
Using Object Source Lighting

I dont agree with some of your critics mate sorry... You discarded the female hip atribute and characteristic and substitute it by a man hip... females hips have a big degree of distortion and what I think that you are not looking is this:

When the hips are turned a bit the leg looks out off place on woman...

I dont want to drag it much but If your going to dissect this perfectly acceptable female sculpt then you will have a hard time with 75% of all 28mm females outhere.

Hmmm.

I don't want to end the conjecture about Meloda because it's quite a healthy debate, but it's probably right to tell you that Meloda is actually based on a real woman, and the miniature form is pretty damn close to the real form, especially the leg length and the width of her hips.

Although, typically of a woman, her thighs are too fat, apparently ;o)

Cheers

Good job on extending the voucher/sale length a bit longer than usual this time - I was able to afford to place a very decent-sized order.
