the lack of stema support is a trifle irritating, from the rumours i've heard floating around it had something to do with GAME's pre-orders but i've not been entirely clear as to what the issue is or why

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Hey BrookM, have you fiddled with the chapter color editor? I know you have it on 360, but I am wondering if it is possible to import your own patterns/textures?

No, though there is plenty of choice. You can fully cobble together your armour from helmet to greaves. There's also a plethora of chapter badges present: most of the Codex chapters are there along with a few obscure ones. Even a Fleur de Lys for the girls who want to play with the boys.

The customizer is unlocked at level four and every few levels you unlock a new piece of wargear for a specific class. Levels go up to level 41 and sets of armour are unlocked through ingame challenges such as dying a lot of times or performing specific kills. From the top of my head here are the loyalist armours: Errant, Aquila, Crusader, Damaged, Relic and Veteran. Don't know or care about Chaos armours really.

The Kill Team power sword is a replacement for the chainsword in multiplayer by the way, no further ingame impact beyond that. Same for the pre-order skins. Just custom armour sets, the actual chapters are available ingame, only minus special armours.

Do you have the means to get a photo or video of the Power Sword in action? It's the only reason I bought the PC version from THQ directly.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

I got to hold a copy last night, and it says multiplayer online only. Looks like no split screen. There was no co-op option on the back of it. Didn't want to wade through 14 pages to see if somebody said that already though.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

So, BrookM, because you cheated, mind tell us what you would rate the game so far on a 1-10?

Psh, I think this is a bit unfair. I think any of us would try to get it before release day if we could. Hell, I tried, but my friend wouldn't budge and said no to selling it to me early. I damn well tried to do the same thing though, but my friend is just a tad bit more honest than I am

The co-op will be released thirty days after the game is released (it's still being polished). It's a sort of dungeon crawl, with you fighting off waves at each arena, then advancing to the next one, until you finish. Occasionally you'll get secondary goals such as kill ten orks in ten seconds, and so on.

Multiplayer and Co-Op will use the same XP system, and even the same xp meter-- you can max out your multiplayer xp without ever touching multiplayer by playing co-op extensively.

It would be nice to get the game early to finish the SP so I could focus on MP fully, but alas, there's no hope of that as I ordered from THQ direct (damn you Power Sword!).

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

I suspect it was because the developer themselves didn't know what they would finish "on time" (if you can call co-op released 30 days after the game "on time"). The game was already supposed to be an early summer release, then pushed back till August, then September... the publisher probably said release it regardless of what is done.

Might be that it's like the "Infestation" game mode for Red Faction: Armageddon.

Buying the game new gave you 'Early Access' to Infestation, which actually seems to play very similarly to "Exterminatus".

Ahem, when I preordered it April 2010, when it was scheduled to release December 2010.

You can't really trust those preorder dates 6 months in advance (especially gamestop ones). I don't even hope to start believing a release date until I hear it from the developer/publisher of the game in question. I'm sure there's an even earlier preorder date out there too seeing as how playable footage of the game was leaked from e3 back in 2008. They just got so much bad press for being Gears of War wannabes when that was leaked that they had to overhaul the game... this also explains why they're so keen on obliquely bashing Gears whenever they're compared to it (e.g. their "cover is for sissies" tag line).

So far a solid 8 out of 10. I'm at the last chapter right now but the ride getting there was a good one with only a few annoying short cutscenes and loading screens where I ran a bit faster than the game could handle. Some boring level design but overall, nice environments that really do scream "THIS IS 40K YOU IDIOTS SO STFU ABOUT THE SKULLS OR FYAD". Story is oh-so predictable but fun. They don't even bother trying to explain what 40k is about, so fans can rejoice for being treated like adults and the upgrade system is done well enough and in a typical Astartes fashion: you gain purity seals and your ingame model proudly displays them. My only beef with the weapons is that the melta is treated like an energy shotgun for some reason and that the weapon slots are a bit annoying in the way they allot the weapons.

I will say this, my new favourite finishing move is no longer the head stomp, but beating and decapitating an 'Ard Boy with his own shield. On the downside, towards the end of the game finishing moves become sparse in variety sadly, though this could just be me beating the everliving gak out of everything with a thunderhammer, which more or less kills everything once you get a few blows in, instantly skipping the button-mashing finishers.

That's pretty much what I called way back when the first videos of gameplay popped up. Sadly, the autotargetting ground pound looked way too easy to do. Do people just spam that move?

They dump in, whack you and if you are still standing do that DoW 2 move where they jump up and land right back at you again. It's not an auto-aim ability though as far as I can tell.

I played the demo for a while yesterday and I think this is probably going to be a game that only 40k fanboys will like. Everyone else will look at it and scream "OMG a 'chainsword'?! It's a Gears rip-off, BOOOO!", and the ones who aren't ignorant as feth still won't like it because there's not really a whole lot to the gameplay at all: it's just a mindless button-mashing game where you fight the same horde of Orks over and over again, using the same moves over and over again, watching the same executions over and over again, etc.

Which is exactly what I expected, so I'm not really complaining about it. I'm just not sure it's going to be worth $50 for the story alone, since it sounds like the multiplayer is unbalanced and isn't really worth playing, because you'll just get owned by ground-pounding assault Marines all day long.

I agree with BrookM on the environments though, it really feels like you're in the 40k universe.

Just wait until you reach the Titan bay, the scale of a Warlord is enough to blow minds, but to see such a big melon-fether moving.. blew my tits right off.

Also, the game comes with a code you need to enter in order to progress beyond level 5 when playing MP. If you buy the game second-hand you can buy a new code from X-Box live or PSN.

Unpleasant things will occur if i hear somebody say this. I mean, on youtube comments, i've already said unkind things about people who say that. But if someone says that to my face, i will either have an aneurysm or curb stomp their face with cleets.

All in all though, im incredibly excited and am looking forward to the co-op mode being released a month from now.

Tactical with melta = 1 hit kill on ASM. I really doubt the classes are unbalanced.
