Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh

Brought the following to 'ard boyz, and did fairly well!

HQ:
Lash prince, wings
lash prince, wings

Troops:
10 CSM, 2 meltaguns, combi-melta rhino
10 CSM, 2 meltaguns, combi-melta rhino
10 CSM, 2 meltaguns, combi-melta rhino
5 Noisemarines, champion, doomsiren, combi-melta rhino
5 Noisemarines, champion, doomsiren, combi-melta rhino
5 Noisemarines, champion, doomsiren, combi-melta rhino

Elites:
5 chosen, 5 meltaguns, combi-plasma rhino
5 chosen, 5 meltaguns, combi-plasma rhino
dreadnought, extra ccw, heavy flamer

Heavy Support:
3 Obliterators
Defiler w/ extra ccw
Defiler w/ extra ccw

Round 1: Fought blood angels. He had:

Mephiston
Gabriel Seth with honor guard in drop pod
tactical squad in drop pod
death company dread in drop pod
assault squad
5 death company in ass cannon razorback
baal pred with heavy flamers
pred with autocannon/lascannons
5x assault terminators with lightning claws
Stormraven gunship
dreadnought with lascannons
furioso dread with frag cannon

He made me take first turn, and I moved forward, forgetting about night fight. Shooting did nothing. He moved up and dropped his death company dread next to the traitor's rhino. Popped the rhino. He turbo-boosted his stormraven with the assault terminators, furioso, and traitor into my zone, or almost. Moved assault marines forward after combat-squadding. Shooting did little.

Long story short, he advanced on me and that was a mistake. My meltaguns made short work of his death company dread and drop pod, then everything swept forward. I got my princes and dread into combat early, and very quickly he was left with only the stormraven, which I couldn't kill, and his death company razorback, which I kept missing. I finally popped the razorback and the stormraven, and wiped out the terminators. I needed the 6th turn, and luckily got it. Managed to kill him down to a single death company and an undamaged furioso, but suffered little damage myself.

Massacre, full battle points [26]

Round 2 vs Salamanders

His list:
Vulkan He'stan
Master of the Forge
Ironclad, drop pod
Ironclad, drop pod
dreadnought, plasma cannon
tactical squad, rhino
tactical squad, drop pod
landraider redeemer with 5x thunderhammer terminators
7 scouts
6 scouts, missile launcher
landraider
4 attack bikes.

He gambled on turn 1, taking the first turn and deepstriking next to my defilers to assassinate them. He immobilized one, didn't touch the other. He moved forward with everything else but the scouts. I responded by using nearby meltas on the ironclads, wiping them out. I moved my chosen forward and blew up his landraider redeemer. Other chosen killed some of his terminators. Lashed them forward, lay plasmacannon templates, wiped out all terminators and wounded vulkan, then charged him with dread. Princes ran rampant through the army and my infantry surged forward. Tabled him turn 4, then grabbed all the objectives.

Massacre, full points [24]

Round 3 vs Grey Knights
Draigo
Coteaz
4x henchmen squads with 2x meltaguns and 7x battle psykers in chimeras
10 paladins, different wargear
3x dread knights with jump drives
vindicare

He made me take the first turn, and I drove on and tried to shoot his paladins using searchlights. They were in a building, so I destroyed that but did little else. He responded by killing my rhinos I'd deployed forward. I then went balls-out, dumping 30 marines with 2x meltaguns per squad, both squads of 5 chosen in front of his paladins. Killed only a few. Used lash to clump them up and tried dropping defiler pieplates and plasmacannons on them. Then I lashed them next to his board edge. He'd lost three, thanks to ridiculously lucky cover saves, and if he failed the morale check they'd be off the board.

.....they didn't.

He responded by killing a daemon prince, a couple of rhinos, a defiler, and one of my squads.

The rest of the game was me trying to use troop choices to kill troop choices while obliterators continued to attempt to kill paladins and prince continued to lash them out of effective range, meanwhile having my army cut apart by his dreadknights carving through me like scalpels. First the chosen, then defilers, then troop choices. The Paladins did little all game, and I eventually got them below half, giving a good chunk of victory points. I ended with two obliterators, a prince, and my dreadnought, but killed a lot of his expensive stuff.

Major loss, only 5 points.

Total points: 55, third place.

First place was the grey knight player I lost to, and second went to a space wolf player that got 3 massacres, but not massacring enough to make a difference compared to my last round opponent's score.

Congrats on making it to the semi's and props for doing it without having to take 9 oblits. I think dual-lash is still a very good chaos build.

Your 3rd round opponent has a pretty nasty GK build. I'm finding Draigo with paladins to be a very difficult build against many opponents, much like how nob bikers were back in 4th edition.

He calls it his cup-game army. Generally he shunts the dreadknights forward and shoots with the chimera and psyker squads, while the paladins slowly march up. People decide the paladins are too much to deal with and start moving around to deal with the knights and such, and the paladins reach them unscathed. Then it's a multi-assault and that's it. Distracting you with the shifting cups, he lifts one to reveal a gun that he shoots you with.

Knowing that, I went for the throat. Still though, the battle squads are INCREDIBLY deadly, if volatile, and the dreadknights are basically untouchable unless you have lots of plasma and such nearby. Spamming three of them is the way to go. If I see a single dreadknight, it's dead. Three, no way. And he used them to take out the threats early on - both units of chosen, the defilers. Done deal. My oblits could handle them, if they weren't dead-set on trying to take down the paladins. My thinking was that the paladins are basically too hard to kill. I just wanted to do enough damage each round to force a morale check, and use lash to keep them by the board edge to make sure if he failed, he'd be gone. Unfortunately he kept passing his damn cover/invul saves, so it took a lot more to get that necessary damage per turn than I wanted.

Paladins would be an overpriced joke if it wasn't for Draigo, honestly. Meltagun spam would just destroy them. Thing is, most units carrying meltaguns carry 1-2. So assuming on average one gets a wound [between the hit roll and not rolling a 1 to wound, this is about average], with the occasional 2, one of those is always going to Draigo, which has a 3++ and EW with T5, and the other, IF there is one, gets to go to a paladin, who has his own 4 or 5++. And the unit that shot them? Yeah it's dead next turn. Multiple units? Multi-charge, both dead. Paladins will kill whatever they touch, hands-down. It takes demolisher cannons and multiple-meltagun units to really make dents, and while he didn't have any, that's what psyfle dreads are for - clearing vindicators.

Dreadknights are durable but they don't put out a whole ton of damage. With only 5 attacks, they are only killing a couple models each turn which is not enough to break MEQ's before the Power Fist in the unit puts 4 wounds on the Dreadknight, at which point your 235 point model was just held up by a 195 point Tactical Squad, with no guarantee of wiping them out. They are most definitely scary and distracting though, so I can see using them in that role on occasion.

After the incinerator does like 7 wounds to that tactical squad, killing a couple, 5 attacks is more than enough. It's got ws5, so hits on 3's. I mean it's got the offensive potential of a daemonprince, but with higher toughness and a better armor save. What more do you want? Other than the weaponskill I'd kill to have those stats on my princes again.

I say again because we used to be able to, in the good old days :(

Congrats!

How did you feel about the defilers? I like them a lot, they have some of the best models in the game, but are they really as good as 9x oblits, especially in a lash list?

They take a lot of fire away from my rhinos and are cheaper than oblits. I've debated adding 4 oblits instead of the defilers [same points] for a total of 7, though I only own 6 models so far. I don't know, though. Defilers are just instant answers to so many things, like lightning claw terminators or even thunderwolf cavalry and the like. Double-lashing thunderwolf cavalry forward into the claws of my defilers is a very rewarding experience - trying to kill them with plasma cannons often fails, especially with 3++ saves.

Tru 'nuff. They are pretty sweet vs things your princes don't want to be fighting, for sure. Maybe 6 oblits and one

Also, I didn't see much of what the noise marines did in your synopsis. How did you use them? Just doom sirening stuff?

Clearly these wins were all about lucky dice which ruined the joy of reading them!!&$#-:!

Haha, just ribbing you after the comments you made in jy2's thread.

Congrats on the win. Good luck in the next round.
