Today, my brother, who I have never been close with, made the most disgusting and revolting remark I have ever heard leave his mouth. We were watching the news at my fathers house, and there was something or other about Israli Palestinian conflict on TV. All of a sudden, he says "The Jews control everything" I was dumfounded, I could not believe it. I knew this kind of thinking still existed in the world, but not here, in small town America, and not in my own family. I immedeately challenged him with evidence and historical fact, I suppose in his mind, this equates to "The Jews control everything". This offended me so much as an American, and as a human being, that I have decided I no longer consider him my brother, he is dead to me. With his ridiculous bigotry he assumes that every jewish person, everywhere, holds the same beleifs and same goals, and has some mission to control the government, which is of course a steaming pile of B.S. Judaism, like every religion, varies greatly in the beliefs of its members. This is the same kind of thinking that led to the holocaust, and every other genocide when applied to other ethnic groups. I think that whenever someone says this, everyone must challenge them, or they are just as responsible. I am equally angry at my father for not taking a stand with me. I realize this is America, and everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but this cannot stand unchallenged. I am 20, and a full time college student/athlete. He is 27, and lives in my fathers basement, and has no college degree, just to give you an idea of the situation. Am I over reacting? I am sorry if this ends up as an out of control thread, but I wanted peoples opinions.

It's just that, in all my studies of history, I see how this thinking progresses, and how dangerous it is when left unchecked and unchallenged by good men and women. He is a low life who is looking for someone to blame, and I think this is common among all bigots. When people say, "oh, that could never happen here" they are wrong. People need to stand up and make sure it never happens again.

I think you are justified in you're flipping out a bit. but does your brother have anything like ADHD? People with that can say things they don't mean to.

I am and American of Italian decent, so I have plenty of older relatives who are prejudice against certain minorities, which also ticks me off. But there is a huge difference between their xenophobia which usually just amounts to not wanting to associate with those who are different from you, and psychotic conspiracy theorists, like my brother. the latter is far more dangerous in my opinion.

I feel the same way about the evangelists. (the bigotry I mean) they refuse, not say they don't quite believe me, but refuse, to believe that the there are christian terrorists out there.



@Dogma; my cousins sterotyepe, it pisses me off royally,. though in all fairness, they do live in 'wonderbread white land' (everyone is white American suburbans, in large houses secluded from the real world) whenever they bring me to a convention in their town I feel like a flyspeck on printing paper.

My parents are seperated, and before I moved off to school I lived with my mother, but he stayed with my father. He his my proper brother. My father was in the room and said nothing. He is pretty old, and was born in Italy in 1945, so in many ways he has seen the aftermath and devastation of fascism. To give you an idea of the situation, my brother is basically a screw up having failed out of three colleges, and my father, who is a doctor, blames himself for this so he spoils him and lets him get away with everything, which is probably what caused his failure in the first place.

Well yes, obviously that was a horrid, deplorable thing to say, but then again, some people say things they don't actually mean...I don't pretend to know anything about you, your family, or your brother, but disowning him completely for something he said seemingly in passing, no matter how bad, seems like a poor reason to disown your brother.

I mean, come on, he's your flesh and blood, family, sure he said something stupid but....really? Disowning?

Now that's not saying that someone doesn't need to put that guy in his place...For all of the people who say that the jew want to rule the world, here is my argument...

They haven't had a home from the time of the Assyrians and the Babyloians up until about seventy years ago...

They were targetted by several different dictators throughout time who thought the same so very untrue thing and were slaughtered for no real reason...

They now live in a small stretch of land with a billion people who want to wipe them off the face of the earth on one three sides and the sea on the other...

they've had to fight for their existence as a country in three or more different wars and even today still...

Honestly? i have yet to hear one valid point from the opposing side of the argument that doesn't involve hate...

And maybe a job?

I dunno, the Jewish people who moved to London in the late 1800's pretty much owned the banking system here.... Although there was a huge backlash against that community during the Jack The Ripper murders....

And good for them, I don't see why anyone in a free society should hate someone for being successful. I know you aren't saying you do, that was just directed towards those who looked down on them for being pioneers of industry.

My older brother sounds similar to your brother, he never liked black people or any minorities, was just a general donkey-cave. He's been deceased for a couple of years now, though.

Hes never said anything offhanded that could of been red flags? But in all honedty, most the racists Ive met in my life, are ignorant and either trying to look cool, or honestly just have no idea of the other culture and so acts out in aggression towards them due to ignorance.


But as always, hes your brother, weather or not you two have the same ideals is irrelevant, hes your family and you need to remember that. Bigot or not.

Leave him to dig his own grave; arguing with him just gives him the opportunity to voice and justify his bigoted beliefs, and will only make him more zealous, if anything. Hopefully he'll have some sense knocked into him, either gently as he matures a bit, or forcefully when he says it to the wrong person, and has his face removed by their boot.

The OP's brother obviously has a slight hint of the truth, but he is settling for an oversimplification. In the 4th century AD, a whole big group of people from southern eastern Europe called the Khazars converted to Judaism en mass. They have always been distinct from the Sephardic jews, who are actually descendants of the twelve tribes of Israel. The Khazars mostly escaped the Holocaust because most of them left Europe before Hitler started rounding up Jews, and lots of them went to the US. They spent hundreds of years marrying into influential families and changing their names so that by the 15th century they were established in all of the powerful families of Europe, and they eventually did the same in America. They pretty much do control everything, through the massive number of lobbyists that they send to hammer the whores in congress and the house of representatives with tons of money, to the point that the whole American government is pretty much in their back pocket. So it's not the real Jews who control everything, it's a bunch of evil, greedy posers who control everything. Not much better, because they use the threat of the label of antisemitism to smear anyone who speaks out against them.
