Hugely overreacting in my book.
Being a cynic, I think that everyone is a little biggoted somewhere. Even elitist fence sitting liberals who pretend not to dislike anyone at all foam at the mouth when you mention Thatcher. They are all "Oh live and let live, were all brothers man, I dont see skin colour I just see other humans, people should be able to do whatever they want peace dude BURN THATCHER TORY SCUM"
I hate fence sitters.
I prefer good honest old fashioned bigotry. If im stereotyping, I dont like anyone. I slag off people from all of the other parts of England (Scousers and cockneys especially) The eternally awful Scots, Welsh and Irish, all of Europe, Muslims especially but also Christians and Jews, African en-masse, almost all of Asian descent.
I also really dislike poor people even though im working class. And I dislike posh toffee nosed people, and I hate middle class arseholes who have no idea what they are talking about in general. And I dont like teachers, firemen and Nurses. Oh and I really hate policemen too. But I hate looters and career criminals more. And jobsworths who step on people to climb the career ladder and also doleys who never work.
I hate single mothers, drunks, straight edgers, punks, goths, emos, hippies, men with earings, neckbeards, the obese, the anorexic.. Ive ranted about them all at some point and the list is endless.
But if im sat on a bus, and any one of the above sits next to me, ill go "alright mate?" and 90% of the time, we will get along, possibly say a few sentences to each other and go on our merry way. And if I get inroduced to one of them at a party by a mutual friend, we will probably share jokes and get along rather well, because dispite being a bitter cynical angry bastard, unless someone is openly a douchebag, i find most people to be somewhat easy going and friendly.
Humans stereotype, its normal. Only if you start acting openly against the people you have a percieved grudge against are you truly a douchbag, and most people really arent.
A simple test.
If im stereotyping, I really hate patriotic Scottish people. I feel this way because I always liked Scots as a boy, but when I moved up there I saw that many of them raise their kids to hate English people, so I in turn have become vehemnetly anti Scottish, and I feel I have the moral high ground because "they started it"
Now, say im walking along and I see a bloke in a kilt wearing a "ANYONE BUT THE ENGLISH" t-shirt. As he crosses the road, he gets hit by a bus. Would I phone for an ambulance?
Of course I would.
Id do some first aid as well, and
Id calmy reassure him as required and help the bloke out, offer him a smoke, whatever.
Its rare not to act this way, its human nature thanks to evolving alongside each other for so long. Only the most indoctinated bigot would laugh and go "haha! Suck on it Hamish!" and waltz on by, and I suspect your brother would happily provide assistance to a random Jew in the same situation.
Ive got 3 or 4 good friends who are Scots, we met in the service and we get along great, we socialise and we drink together and we are good friends, even though some of them have the same sort of pre concieved feelings because we get drunk and they go "The English are all pricks, but your sound you pal" You can say that on some level you dislike a race/nation without actually hating them on a personal level.
The point is, we all have our little quirks. Its rare that someone acts upon any preconceptions that they have. You can occasionally say "I fething hate Jews" and still be good friends with a Jew.
I think you need to go and bro-fist your bro. Bloods thicker than good old fashioned family racism.
