Well with the upcoming Ogre releases I thought I'd do something a bit different, an army of what I'll be calling Frost Ogres. I'm sure it's been done before but I loved the idea of having blue-skinned Ogres that dwell in the heights of snowy mountains, occassionally venturing forth to devour and/or pillage. All my inspiration came from Norse mythology and the Jötunn.

Here's an Irongut donning the colour scheme I've settled on, hope you likes

Paint Job is just incredible. The blue hues of the skin really capture a frigid environment. Reminds me of something out of Forgotten Realms Neverwinter Nights. The armor has a nice aged/worn look and the colors make it realistic.

Wow, your conversions are amazing! Puts my stock ogres to shame I was thinking about modelling some fur bits to make them stand out from normal ogres but you've taken it to the next level, and probably the level after that.

Skin is Fenris Grey, Fenris/Ice Blue mix for the highlights, then a Fenris/Ice Blue/Skull White mix for the final stages.

But really, I cant wait to see more of those. You did a really good job on painting the blues, my only criticism would be the metal seems a little bland compared to the rest. Maybe rust it or weather it or something. Itll add more character, that or paint random parts of the metal a bright color maybe?

Fantastic. I love how clean and sharp it looks, and the slightly oily-look of the armour. The blue skin is great.

I'm not a huge fan of the ogres, this gives them some much-needed personality.

Fantastic colors, crisp details, and silky-smooth blends. Your whole background and color scheme feels right at home with the models, as well.

I can kind of see where KC is coming from on the blandness of the metal, but the tone is just so perfect. I thought about the possibility of adding some contrasting brass or gold trim, but it just doesn't fit the feel. I think this simple scheme (especially carried out so masterfully) will give the right impression without lacking visual interest, once the troops are arrayed and the handful of really elite models get their touch of bling (more likely, in your case, from ice than from "ice" ).

The armour was painted really quickly and is actually incredibly simple to do. I painted all the metal areas with boltgun metal, slightly watered to avoid blotching or brush strokes. Then you simply wash with Devlan Mud, wait for it to dry then highlight edges with Mithril Silver.

I'll admit it does look a little bland in the photo for some reason, I think in person the highlighted edges stand out a lot more and there are more visible variations in tone from the wash. Even still, the simplicity of the method allows me to paint my Ogres quickly, as I have a friendly tournament coming up in October. There is also the fact that I've never been a huge fan of weathering, I'm very tempted to add the odd scratch here and there but I think anything beyond that makes models look 'messy', for want of a better word. I prefer the crisp and clean feel, even on dirty Ogres

Also, my mountain-dwelling Frost Ogres keep their armour in good condition

I agree here, your armour just looks really nice the way it is. Too much weathering and damage can distract from the rest of the model.

Gorgeous. I love the skintone and even the metallics look cold because you didn't go with the old classic rustfest that you'd normally see in OKs armies.

He did!? I actually really like this idea, I immediately thought of the Woad patterns from medieval Scotland, definitely something to think about.

Do a tramp stamp.
Also it only just occured to me that the armour is far too clean, rust and blood my friend.

Read up, I've already presented my argument for clean armour. Though I'll reiterate that I really don't like much weathering, if any at all. Blood stains NEVER look good in my experience, and as for rust and general weathering I feel it makes models look tacky and messy. I may add the odd tasteful scratch here and there though.

My apologies, I've got to stop skimming these forums.
I think bloodstains can look quite good if done well.
I've nearly finished a squad of Ironguts and I quite like the look of the blood, but that may just be bias.

However I would like to reiterate that it does still look very cool

I'm sure yours look great! With red being such a warm colour I just don't think it would suit my icy brutes, nor the style of painting I've tried to achieve.

they are going to look much, much better than a standard flesh coloured army. Strong theme and wonderfully painted! I have to agree about the lack of rust and blood too: it could be done very well but would require special thought about colour and if its something you don't like... the extra time to please others simply isn't worth it.

You are going to have a great army which will be the envy of many a gamer!

Yay! Someone else painting Ogres to try and get me moviated to painting mine. As others have said, the hues of blue is amazing for the skin. The armor looks wonderful also. Sure, it looks a little clean for an Ogre, maybe they maintain their utensils unlike the others?

Again, great job!
