I am curious, how do you use your dreads, i mean what is the general consensus. Sure most of people out there, just go for rifle dread, but is there any other use for them than just camp in back and pop transports? Personally, as a BA player i do love furiousos, but after few games, i started to experiment with them. I changed good old BT's(talons) for BF+ FC (Frag cannon) + HF (on one the other had melta) and just dropped them behind the IG parking lot. It was lot of fun, watching the enemy face when you are placing flamer template on 2 rear armors and few guards ‘man They proved to be worth the flexibility to pop vehicles, and shake of hordes. On the other hand, i start using again my old AoBR MM dread, just gave him HF instead SB, give him a DP and he is very good distraction T1, for 150p total (not sure if he is the most efficient). Mainly suits into my dual LR list. I would like to know if you are just the main stream users or you keep on experimenting with your dreads? Moreover did you come up with something that might work better than mainstream? PS. Any love for Lib-Dreads?

Well, in Vulcan list, I'd take multimelta and heavy flamer, while in a vanilla list, I'd consider assault cannon and heavy flamer.

Libby dreads, while better than the psychic dreads from GK,are not worth their points. They are slow, and even giving them Wings is useless if immobilised. They have 1 psychic power a turn, and the only good thing is that if they lose their gun they can still shoot a PSA.

You cant use wings when immobilised the guy at GW said I could.
I always use a libby dread, using wings to get near enemy vehicles and smash them open, Just as useful against enemy characters as any wound caused can kill him.

Well the guy at my GW said I couldn't.And no offense, but how do we know you are not bluffing?Your word vs mine.
Does it say anywhere in the rules that a Dread with Wings can move using it if immobilised? No.So you can't.

Immobilised generally means that your engines are destroyed.
Or that your wheels/tracks/grav units/wings are broken.

If the rules were more fluffy, then yes,you would be able to conjure up red, angel wings of energy to lift you a short distance.
But this is not the case.Just assume in the shock of losing his motor drives he forgot how to use that power.
"Damn!My leg piston is ed.
I know!I'll use my magic wings to fly away.
Now how do I do that again.I forgot! !"

Immobilised = Immobilised
Dreadnoughts are as flexible as you need them to be. Tactically it depends what goals you have or mission objectives. Ironclads are different to Venerable and standard dreads so choosing, for me, comes down to what you want to achieve.
I prefer to use the Assault Cannon on a standard dread, TL Lascannons on Venerable and Chainfist with the ironclad.
If you could use Chainfist with Assault Cannon option I'd take it all day...
For Chaos I prefer the Autocannon. Its a solid all-rounder.
Long thread short, Assault Cannon...

As a GK player I use three Psyfleman Dreads ie Dreads with two TL Autocannon Arms
On my GK Venerable Dreads I use a Plasma Cannon, DCCW w/heavy flamer and Psyflame ammo.
When I played vanilla Marines, I used an IronClad Dread with Seismic hammer, and DCCW w/meltagun
I have also used in the past a Dread Loaded with TL Lascannon and Missile Launcher Pod.

usually i follow the following set of configurations.
Rifleman. 2 x tl AC
Melta/ HF dread
these two configurations seem to have the greatest viabiliity coupled with cost effectiveness.
sometimes i field a Dread with a Lascannon because of its ability to poke the Las between or around an advancing tank and fire at the enemy from a very obscured position.

Depends what army youre going against. I fit mine with 2 skorchas and sit in the back or near objectives waiting for anything to come near. Works especially well against orks and kroot.

I used to run a TL LC and ML dread all the time which worked very well with a Black Templar army. I'd be keen to try a Plasma Cannon dready with HF (or, if you could pintle mount a Storm Bolter and take a Storm Bolter I would on a dread).

To echo others, it depends on army/roles you need based upon your list. With my GK's it doesn't make too much sense for me to use psyrifle dreads because I run a 3x stormraven list. I use the "psycannon" types so that they can ride in the back, drop off, shoot, and assault with the rest of the troops.
I have had success with MM/HF dreads in a vulkan list. They die early but not before popping a couple tanks or roasting some long fangs.

Depends on what your army needs. I find a regular dread outfitted for CC is asking for it. Esp when I have an option of 2 dreads or terminators. Give me the wounds.
I like the rifleman dread or the AT dread( Las + ML) on venerables. Nothing like almost autohitting.
For multi-purpose, I like the MM/HF dread for a drop podding army but if I am going to walk up I prefer a little more range than 24" (really 12") so the minimum I would take would be an assault cannon to soften an opponent up.

In my vanilla marines list, I take 3 rifleman at 2500. They are equiped with TL Autocannon/Plasma cannon, or 2 TL autocannon. My current 2500 list has 2 plasma/AC, and one 2x TL AC. Proved very effective at ard boyz.
I have another one with 6 dreads; the above plus 3 ironclads. The IC dreads, while great once into the enemy forces, often died/immobilized half way across the board. So if you use them, drop them in a pod and pop smoke. At least that way they have a chance. They are outfitted as stock.
And yes, it depends on what your army needs. If you want to keep the DCC for when the enemy comes knocking, a TL lascannon or TL autocannon is a good option.

Ven dread w. Assault cannon, DCCW and HF,
Ven Dread w. TL lascannon+ ML,
Dread w. TL las+ML
It can put out the hurt. But I'd like to make this clear: this is not my usual choice. Just for if I want to go "dread 'eavy."
Incidentally, how useful is the Ironclad in regular 40k games (around 1500 pts)?
I like the model, but I'm not sure on how effective they are.

If you can get the IC dread into combat, it does remarkably well. The problem is it has to withstand either walking across the board, or if in a pod, surviving a round of fire without getting immobilized.
But once its inside the enemy ranks, very little can stop it (AV 13 for the win).

I think a lot of it depends on the list you're bringing. As a Space Wolf player, I play dreadnoughts as bodyguards for Bjorn, so at 2k I try and run 2 dreads with TL lascannons and a heavy flamer. That way you have accurate long range punch, great anti-horde and tools for clearing out units in cover, and can tie up lots of scary things with you AV 12 and Dreadnought CCW. I usually apply my Dreads as snipers as long as possible then go for the charge to tie up scary units before they get to my more valuable units, such as Long Fangs and Bjorn.

My FLGS has a house rule, that any space marine chapter, except GK,may take the BA's SR,counting as 2 HS options. GK have their own.
If your opponent is ok with it,these rules work incredibly well.Put an Ironclad, with Siesmic Hammer/Melta gun and DCCW and HF,with 2 HKs,and put it in a SR,with 5 Assault Termies and a Space Marine Terminator Librarian Epistolary with Quickening and Vortex, deep strkie the SR and disembark next turn,to assault.Or fly on 24'' from reserve and do the same.
If you don't like/want to use these rules, then drop pod it in,and arm it with 2 HFs.The pod should land close and there is nothing quite as satisfying as a huge, armoured machine dual wielding flamethrowers, like the first Iron Man suit.
