*A* sculpting tool or slulpting tool*s*.

The other thing you will need an abundance of is patience.

Start by scultping some bases out of greenstuff.

It's what I'm doing, and I've found that I'm picking up the hang of handling this stuff and it's little niggles as I scult my bases.

Also, I've found that the imperfections (pretty heavy in my case) in the flattening tip of the sculpting tool actually undo lots of your work....I use craft knives, exacto blades and lolly pop sticks for shaping and smoothing. Dab of water here and there too.

Use vasaline to smooth it off (just remember to wash it of when the greenstuff has set . I've chucked away my tool and now just use clay shappers and scalpels .

Thank you, but why vasaline?

I haven't tried it, but I imagine it works the same as when I model with greasy hands. If your skin is slippy the green stuff wont stick to your fingers.

I've made the mistake of modelling with dry skin and found that the greenstuff feels the need to smooth it off for me and sticks to me like skulls on a GW sculpt.

@Curnow: Thanks for the vaseline tip btw, I'll try that out!

I just use spit.

My advise would be to work by building basic shapes of what you want, trim them down, then build up details. For me its all about layers. The link in my sig is my WIP thread and i take a lot of pics of various GS steps if you want to see.

Water-based personal lubricants have made my (sculpting) life much easier. Thinning down something like KY Jelly with a bit of water in a tiny cup/paint well gives you a pool into which you can dip a tool or finger just as easily as a cup of water, but it lubricates better and longer, while easily rinsing off the model when you're done. Tried it after a few tests with plain water and I haven't gone without it, since.

We have all encountered enough hentai to know where this is headed.....

I dont know.... for me it is NEVER enough to have just a tentacle, it doesn't convey chaos quite enough. It always has to be some sort of strange bizarre mix. Lamprey mouth inside a duck-beak on a tentacle.... now thats chaos.

Despite what some may tell you, using GS for Nurgle effects is not super easy, blobbing on GS and jabbing it with a sculpting tool does not a good effect make, in fact it usually ends up looking like gak..
Best way to do any sort of Nurgle effect is to decided on the area you want you sores, blisters, pustules etc on and then apply a small amount of GS, smoothing the edges of the GS unto the model surface to make it appear intergrated.
From that point it's up to you, create small scars/lesions with your sculpting tool/blade, pox and sores by making tight circular motions in the GS with a blade/tool/pin head and then "fraying" the edges ( making the edges look torn)
Roll small ( and I mean small..pin back small) balls of GS and create pustules and blisters by gently adding then to your area and intergrating the edges...
Go through photos of actual diseased body parts/tissue and various paterns will begin to suggest themselves...
But whatever you do, don't just gob on GS and start poking at it thinking that your creating " Nurgle effects".

I always wondered how you could ramp up the embarrassment levels of being an adult and playing with toy soldiers and the answer was sex lube all along!

Personally I am using a shaving oil at the moment (for GS-ing not for sex lube). Works really well and evaporates nicely leaving only a pleasant musky odour to your new conversion.
