Alright, so I have managed to procure a Mars Pattern Warhound Titan from a friend and my issue is this:

He has the two arms/weapons glued on and I have an order in for more weapon arms so I can have some options. The current arms are superglued into place.

I figure I have a few choices, but not sure what will adversely affect the model.

A) Simple Green bath to weaken joins. Problem with this, is I don't want to reassemble the whole titan.

B) Freezer the titan. Concerned that when frozen, all superglue joins will be brittle and easily broken thereafter. Does anyone know if the superglue is fine again after it warms up?

C) Nail polish remover/superglue solvent. Not sure if it will damage the resin.

Any and all help would be much appreciated!!

I would go with A, simply because I've never heard of doing it the way of B, and IMHO I would rather reassemble the whole Titan after a Simple Green bath than have it melt from Nail polish remover/ solvent.... and trust me I learned that the hard way(melted an assault termie)...

Maybe wait until your weapon option arms turn up and use some of the sprue to test the superglue solvent method to see what it does to the material? (assuming it's the same stuff- Resin?)
as it really is the best option all round, freezing isn't ideal as it can lead to warpage. Simple green is a whole model treatment really and I don;t blame you for not wanting to re-glue the whole thing if its already secure.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

You could just cut it off with a saw.

If you could gently pry the specific joint you're trying to work with, super-glue isn't THAT tough. Otherwise, a SG bath is the safest.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't alcohol like Methylated Spirits or Isopropyl alcohol remove super glue? Both are great for removing acrylic paint in any case.

Freezing makes the small amount of water trapped in the superglue bond expand (and in best case, shatter the bond). The bond is forever weakened after this. It will not return to its pre-frozen state.

Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) works to loosen the bond as well (turns it rubbery). Acetone also removes superglue - but it can also permanently make certain polyurethan resins soften and go rubbery.

I've used both simple green and the freezer before for metal and plastic models, and they both work pretty well. I'd be worried about freezing a titan though, as I'd speculate that the resin would become more brittle too. No clue if that's true or not, but I'd hesitate to do it with my own models.

simple green it, the problem with superglue and resin is that the superglue will actualy soak into the resin in some cases meaning the the bomd is not just surface and simply trying to prise it apart may break something important.

Either that or very carefully saw it and then pin and magnetise all your weapon options, I would imagine that the weapons for a titan (even a small one) would be pretty heavy though.

Thanks for all the help guys, looks like I'm going to try Simple greening the shoulders if I can rig up a system to just submerge the shoulder.
