Does anyone here on dakka still play DoW1 or any of the expansions......I went to play the first one and I was the only person online, the only time I can get into a match is if I get lucky looking for one on soulstorm that isn't (NO NOOBS ALLOWED) or (PRO ONLY)

i do occasionally. not as much as i used to however. problem is in your location, people generally move on to "better" games, rather than sticking with the old ones.

DoW 1 is one of the "better" games, I don't like 2's multiplayer as much as the first ones

I still play Dark Crusade, though I've never played online. I just find it too much fun to play through the campaign over and over again as different races.

i agree with locclo and boomboy. i'd rather play online for fun, not for people who just want to absolutely dominate you.

The latest version of DoW I have is Dark Crusade, so I'm on that when I'm playing DoW. I'm never online though. I haven't even downloaded the patch!

which reminds me, i need to break that game out again, now that my computer can actually run it decently.

Honestly, I would assume more people would be online playing Dark Crusade, than Soulstorm. That being said I'd be happy to play either!

I like dark crusade better, but I like playing as dark eldar

i prefer dark crusade as well, but soulstorm is fun.

I have only played DC so far from the DoW 1 series, but my computer that had it was broken from an earthquake.

that sucks. try steam, you can get them pretty cheap, and all 3 are good.

I like Dark Crusade over Soulstorm as well. For two main reasons:

1. Don't have to rip through the entire map because my opponent built a unit-producing building out in the middle of nowhere.

2. The maps are much, much smaller, so there's no need to spend 10-15 minutes hunting for the opponent's base. This is especially true for the slow-ass Necrons, the only race I haven't played through Soulstorm with due to needing to hike across entire maps while hunting enemy buildings.

I'll play soulstorm from time-to-time still as it's good fun, has DE and whatnot - I'll let you know if the mood takes me and I want to DoW:S ever.

Actually I really enjoyed Winter Assault mainly because there isn't any limit on most the units. However you don't get the other races (Tau and Necrons) and some units, the only one I can think of at the moment is the Flash Gitz for the orks.

The first one is my favourite by far and had the best campaign.

Dark Crusade is my second favorite and I still play that online from time to time, it's harder to get a game though I must admit.

I leave Soulstorm alone, the flyers ruined it for me and Tau are broken. Would be nice if they actually did another patch for it but I don't think it will ever happen now.

I don't get on with DoW2 at all, just do not like it in anyway.

Dark Crusade had the best story, feel, campaign and units of all the games. DOW 2 Chaos Rising wasn't that bad but the multi-player is horrid.

I still play most of them, but start on dark crusade, and move between games untill i get with some decent people, but yes, tau are broken in soulstorm, and dark crusade was the m,ost balanced in my opinion.

my favorite was easily dark crusade. and i agree, the multiplayer of dow2 is horrible, though Last Stand is good. I hear Retribution is closer to the original.

I would be happy to organise a game for the Brits if they would like, also get the rest of the world involved but it gets tricky with timezones.

Could all meet up in the Maelstrom for some FFA or team action?

Edit - Guess I should explain what it is. FoK is a massive overhaul of the DoW game that makes it closer to codex. To say it's a changes is an understatement. They completely remade the game to where it's a totally different beast.

For example, you play imperial guard. First you pick which regiment to go with. Armored, Infantry, or Inquisition. After picking that, you then get access to the specific regiments units and vehicles, but it doesn't stop there. Create a leman russ, and you have access to just about every variant of the main cannon from the tabletop. Then you get to select what sponson weapons are on it. After that, pick what you want for you're front turret weapon, ranging from flamer to bolter to las. Don't stop there though, no leman is complete without a heavy stubber.

So yeah, the work that was put into this mod is insane, and I highly suggest everyone take a look at it. Works with steam and all that.

Still play Dark Crusade, that game is sweet.

I play this, its amazing but Is incredibly difficult at first and requires practice.

I play it almost every day with my friend from Philippines, Bosnia, US, Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia..
But we use personal Hamatchi network.

Lots of people still play Dark Crusade, you just got to be on at the right time of day, Winter Assault has few every so often, DoW i never see it played online anymore, haven't gotten my Soulstorm CD cleaned so havent been on that in awhile.
DoW 2 multiplayer sucks in my opinion, i only like the gladiator mode and thats only when people dont cheat by using teleporting skills or jump packs to fly onto a rock

I love Dark Crusade, but have still been hesitant to pick up Soulstorm. Plus, I found a mod on moddb.com for Tyranids (And they did a kick-ass job too!), but unfortunately I can't find anyone running only the DC version of the mod...

I still enjoy a game of Dark Crusade for multiplayer every once in a while. I'm still going through the one player stuff too. Currently I'm going through Winter Assault.
