I always imagined it as Shifty eyes.

Rolling of the eyes. Usually, but not always, accompanied by a tut or two.
It is what we did back in the day, before people started smacking their heads.

I use those for awkward moments. I tend to get a lot of those...

It's the eye roll for those moments of absurdity. I think it's been trumped by the more effective
