It's always hard to get that first 1,000 points of an army together and finished. The grind tends to drag even the best and brightest of us into the muck and we find ourselves dragging out feet more and more.

The idea for my Angels came soon after my Space Hulk boxed set arrived. My want to use the models in both 40k and Space Hulk set the stage, and my need to play chapters that aren't given much limelight brought me to the Angels Sanguine colors. Now with the army becoming fully realized I can't help but think back to how long it's been since that first spark of inspiration.

So without much more fanfare:

I still have more planned for them down the road, but to hit this landmark and with the completion of the display board, I had to share them here! If you're looking for more on how I went about the army, check out my Random WIP Thread from the P&M Blogs. There are even some more photos of the units with more detail shots.

Thanks for looking and I hope you've enjoyed the photos a fraction as much as I'm enjoying having them finished!

When I was still choosing my chapter, I flirted with the idea of the Angels Sanguine... Howeveer I did not think I could do the split color scheme justice (and it did not particularly apeal to me)... now I see this and am reconsidering my choice... GREAT job!

That's an amazing paintjob right there!

I commend the white on the wings, it's pretty much perfect! Also, I love the power blade, it's one of those few precious ones other than light blue that actually work as a colour scheme!

This is just great work. I can't see anything that I could improve on. Just excellent work.

Thanks for the replies and kind words folks!

Crusher050, It's a little daunting to think about doing a halved, or worse quartered, theme. The big thing is to simplify as much as possible so you're not losing your mind too quickly. It's going to happen anyways, but it'll be a slower transition into lunacy should you keep things as simple as possible.

Sam_theRelentless, Thanks, the white for the Sanguinors wings was actually quite easy to do. I primed white, so to add depth I washed them with watered down Fortress Grey and touched it all back up with Skull White. The sword was just following the power weapon conventions from the Terminators, it worked out nicely and balances well because of the base.

Emperors_Champion, Thanks for visiting the blog The hulk set is just too good not to paint up!

Jimsolo, Thanks! I hope to get more done for them!

I've never seen those jetpacks before. These models are beautiful.

I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.

Wulfe Luer, Thanks! The models are done using a little zenithal highlighting through the airbrush. Here's a step by step, hope it helps.

LumenPraebeo, Thanks for the compliment. The jetpacks are the old Maxmini set. I wasn't sure how I'd like them, but they did the trick perfectly and really break up the monotony nicely. I also used a steam knights head from them as well for one of the marines.

I like your step-bt step a lot, but you seem to stop at the green/sepia wash stage on the red; looking at the finished minis I assume you went back and highlighted with a lighter red? Did you shade down further, as well? It's a great shade of red, really rich.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

The only thing I've gone back in with is VMC Flat Red as a little highlight. It's not used extensively either. Much of the richness comes from careful application of the wash to the right areas.

@grey_death, how many coats of white did you use on the wings? I'm guessing the three mentioned wasn't enough, there must've been some repeat coats.... white is a bitch to work with, and I'm going to start painting my WS army soon...

simply incredible. i cant wait to see a few tatical squads to make this a 1500 point army and we all MUST see the first battle report.

i envy skill of that magnitude. i am ok with a brush, but i cant do that, and i am just beginning with an airbrush.

also, someone said its time to break out those space hulk mini's. the space hulk i remember the terminators didnt look ANYWHERE NEAR that good, was there a re-release with better looking models or is my old mind playing tricks on me. simply incredible.

you are an inspiration to people like me who are always trying to paint better. people like you, and sharing your knowledge makes people like me better.

thank you.

great work. may your dice always roll high, so you wont need the low ones!

I never really count coats when painting whites. It's always watered down so that the finish is smooth, so saying what is and isn't a coat is hard to define! I just paint them until they look about right

Thanks for that Sco77y!

I'm not sure any tacticals are in the cards right now, but we'll see how things play out down the road! I'm pretty sure I can get things up to 1500 with the next two squads, another unit of terminators and a Death Company squad, and past that I have yet another Assault Squad. Not to mention the terminator librarian!

There was indeed a new version of Space Hulk that came out a while back now. The third edition of the game was one of the best releases GW has ever put out. It's too bad it was a limited release. Though if you're willing to part with some dough, you can still find the game on ebay or by trolling the swap shop here on Dakka!

I'm glad you enjoy the models, and even more so that you take something from all of the effort I put into sharing what I've done and what I'm doing for models.

Aha! I also thought it went a bit like that.... I mean, I found it funny how guys could say, "it's good to have 7.5 coats, any more it starts getting thick..."

Wow, thanks so much for posting that tutorial. I'm doing Angels Sanguine myself and have had trouble getting the red the colour I want it. That tutorial pretty much gets it spot on with what I had in my mind. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy more air for my airbrush!

Sam_theRelentless, yeah, if anyone says they're coating straight from the pot and getting a smooth finish they're using an airbrush It's just not feasible to get a brush coat smooth and even without very thin layering.

bruno.sardine, I'm glad you dig the tutorial and hope it helps you at the hobby table! Angels Sanguine are a great faction that deserves more exposure!

Lord of Baal, thanks!
