I'm going to have to do some painting on Wednesday and probably Thursday at Nova. Paint pots are .4 fluid ounces so I think they should be fine. Anyone ever flown with paint pots in their carry on baggage?

I travel with GW pots all the time no problems. Just make sure they are in a seperate resealable bag.

Yeah the individual containers have to be under the limit but you can bring more or less whatever you need in the way of numbers...

this...Just make sure you follow the normal liquid rules and you'll likely be fine. Additionally just be nice and understanding if you do get stopped. Generally speaking with the TSA the more agreeable and understanding you are the quicker your back on your way

I've never known an airline to disallow things on the plane that the TSA allowed through security(with the exception of carry on luggage that is too large to fit in the overhead or under the seat)

I know a few, who have an "intresting"view point on a number of items. Far to much to discuss here.
Best and safe advice is check with the airline its self.

International travel may also affect things. When I go to countries in Asia I routinely see posters banning paints from air travel.

I've traveled with GW paint pots through Southwest and US Air by sticking with the seperate bag. I've usually spoken with the ticket checking person, and asked should I leave it in my carry on to go through x-ray or present out of the carry on in the bag. I've received different opinions at the same airport.
You shouldn't have a problem. Standard rules apply. Be polite, courteous, and if they are being unreasonible, just let them throw away the paint. I'm sure there are other's who can share an "army dump" story or 2. Where some interesting airport employee opened the figure case and dumped it. Lastly: agree with the above, leave the glue at home. Don't even try it. If it pops, your models are ruined, if your stopped, it might raise a lot of questions you just don't want to deal with.

If it's in your checked luggage, it shouldn't be a problem. Put a little note in there saying what it is if you're worried.
If it's in your carry-on, some may have problems with it.
When I was flying from IL to Las Vegas, I had a single pot of Skull White with me. I asked at the counter if it was okay (as you said, 0.4 oz of acrylic paint). She talked to security and one person said no. ... to the point the she (the security guard) got a bit loud with me about trying to carry it on board.
The other members of security let me go through when she wasn't looking.
Sanity wins over paranoia!

Airlines don't go through your carry-ons. Security does. At least, in the US that's how it works.
I have traveled with paints/brushes/miniatures to do some modeling when I was traveling for work, but always in my checked luggage. Never had a problem.
If you MUST take it with your carry-on, put it in the clear plastic bags like they tell you. However, since it obviously isn't soap or shampoo, don't be surprised if minimum wage Barney Fife gets confused and makes you throw it away at the security station.
Best of luck!

Never point something like that out to Barney Fifes. Just put it with your shampoo and soap bag and move on. Just asking makes them pucker.
When confused or in doubt, they will always tell you no.

See, I'd much rather deal with a Barney Fife (especially if it was really Don Knotts) than to try to go through security with it, get called on it, and then have to hold up a line of very irate passengers because I dared to not declare I had 0.4 oz of non-clear liquid in my bag and potentially miss my flight as they check to see if I'm a tar'ist. Plus, the people at my local airport are mostly regular joes that say "Model paint? Cool. Used to do that when I was a kid" and send me on my way. I just happened to find the ONE person on a power trip.
Though, you do have a good point. After my incident, I was told my other people to just tell them it was nail polish and they wouldn't look at it twice (which, I suppose it could be used to paint nails...)

O/ Was not the point I was making, While the OP asked about the TSA, my point is prudent in the wider scope of the question of the intent of the OP to travel via air with paints !
The Airlines them selfs have own rules what you can take on planes, Paint is often a no no .
The primary reason is criminal/paint damage to the airline interior , other travellers property and clothing, either by you been big fingered, an accident or otherwise.
As you indicated some "strange" people work at desk's make up a "no" if confused.~
I would rather check with the airline proir to travel than have an incident/accident, find out I breached some supid rule , get ejected/arrested/sued etc., plus been able to point out where on thier own rules that I CAN carry it on, if specified
