This isn't actually an attempt at a 'Krork' or whatever, it's just that I wanted to paint a green Kroot - a sort of camouflage for in jungle terrain, rather than the grey-green that 'Eavy Metal tends to paint Kroot.

The WIP shots are all here...

I'd love some C&C.

Cheers.

ha, nice...I wouldn't have thought of that if you hadn't brought it up, but it does look like ork skin...it does, however, work very well on a kroot

They also gain a point of toughness in the old Chapter Approved Kroot Mercenaries army list, IIRC.

I'm disapointed, I was hoping for a cool kroot/ork conversion.
That's just a green skinned kroot.

That's what I was expecting too. I feel like Kroot head, Ork body, Kroot rifle would look fantastic. Oh well. The model looks really good either way. I would love to know your technique for the green skin.

This is pretty much what I imagine whenever I read about Kroot. Nice work. Glad to see all of your refinements paid off!

Indeed it is very well painted and many could use a tutorial as to how.

Nicely painted, and I like the idea, but I would suggest either adding a few ork tusks, or even blending the beak up into some off-white points to capture the visual look of the white ork tusks against the green skin. Hope you continue this project. I'd love to see a Krootox with some Ork DNA.

Thanks, guys!

I've added something to the OP in response to the 'it's just a green Kroot' posts. It was never my intention to create a 'Krork', but just to try out blending techniques on skin and, for whatever reason, I chose green.

I can't recall exactly how I painted the green (or any other part of the model), as I didn't sit down and think it through - I just thought 'it needs more...' or 'let's try...', and this is what came up. But here is roughly how I did it...

Green Skin

1) Goblin Green, built up over two thin coats. This was originally going to be the colour from which I blended up from.
2) Finding Goblin Green to be WAY too bright, I washed the whole model with a darkened, thinned Asurmen Blue. This helps pull the model away from being just green.
3) Using a mix of Goblin Green, Ultramarines Blue and Chaos Black, I blended up over the course of about eight coats, gradually dropping the Ultramarines Blue and Chaos Black.
4) After so many coats, the blending reaches pure Goblin Green again. After one or two thin coats of this, I started adding Bleached Bone to the mix for the highlights. I deliberately avoided the 'edge-highlighting' that 'Eavy Metal seems to use on flesh these days, focusing instead on the raised areas - something more akin to Zenithal Ligthing.
5) A final highlight of roughly 2:1 Goblin Green to Bleached Bone was applied around the face.
6) To add a bit of life to the skin, I washed the model with two thin coats of a mix of Baal Red, Ultramarines Blue and Chaos Black. I can't remember the ratios, but it had more Baal Red in it than Ultramarines Blue, and roughly equal blue 'n' black.

That's actually the best way to paint skin, is with many, many MANY extrememly thin coats of paint- optimally, the paint will be so thin as to be a little translucent- that way you get the proper feel of layered skin, like there's something under it- which is how actual skin is.

Its skin tone combined with the yellow chest plate is reminiscent of a Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle.

The painting's great; I agree with the others suggesting a more ambitious Ork-y conversion.
