...Or is the spelling getting worse in here? Over the past week or two, there seems to have been a fairly significant upswing in the number of atrociously-constructed posts. Ok, so we can't reasonably expect every post to be grammatically 'spot-on' all the time...

That's just one one page, in one thread. I could go on and on...

Mods - please start punishing persistently shoddy posters more heavily. Posters who frequently litter their posts with spelling mistakes and bad grammar make reading this wonderful forum such a drag, and there's no excuse for it. It's against the rules, and you know how seriously I take those.

They do say that a great deal of knowledge is lost over long breaks from education. Its a strong argument for more, shorter, breaks.

Of course, that means paying teachers more, so...

I have noticed it. I prefer full sentences and good grammar and non spammy posts, but some people do not follow that :(

A spelling mistake or grammatical error every now and then is not worth getting upset over, that's just the internet. But the posters who consistently litter their posts with poor grammar and spelling and then when corrected by another poster say, "I don't care." Those are the ones who need to be given vacations from the forum.

Agreed. We all do it now and then - though I usually go back and correct any mistakes, should I notice them. But people doing it constantly boils my piss.

I think people that take obvious and forced pleasure in pointing out a poster's errors and that do so in a rude manner should have a similar vacation to be honest, and it happens regularly with a free pass.

It IS possible to correct someone or point out an error without being a dick about it, but you wouldn't think so based upon typical examples...

I generally keep to an " If I can understand what the poster is trying to convey" rule of thumb, but I admit that the " Spammy.ramble/ look at me/poorly worded" post do occasionally get under my skin.

It's OT. The only spelling mistake made was yours in that you mistook there being any level of expectation on the accuracy of the speling of those within.

It does bug me. but the part that bugs the most is the lack of caring. mistakes happen, but when it's over and over....

I'm the worst about not using CAPS. I broke a pinky along time ago and it makes
it hard the hit shift the way i hen peck the keyboard.

Bad spelling may be on the increase during the summer (which I guess that was that week a while back when it didn't rain here), but terrible grammar is forever a woe on internet forums. Eugh, is it really that difficult to learn the proper use of "what" and "which"?
