Well, not every time. I know that when I first saw Ouran High Host Club, I was as clueless as everyone in the show- heck, I was clueless even past the main dude figuring it out! Not past the first episode, though...

Spoiler:
When a friend of mine showed the first episode I said almost instantly that "he" was a girl. Too many years of anime / hentai I guess

I was legitimately confused at first when people were referring to her as a guy. I first I thought it was just part of the cross dressing tradition and thus people refered to her as male as part of it, but then found that no, they actually thought she was a dude. Charles made a much more convincing guy than she does.

Spoiler:
and more and more people keep confusing Harutora and Natsume. Kyouko at least has the excuse of apparently not remembering what the boy she made the promise with looks like (and they were children any way) but come the feth on. Even if we hadn't seen Natsume in girl's clothing first it's pretty fething obvious she's female. *facepalm*
that aside here's Kon being cute again.
Spoiler:
Don't forget, everyone is freakin' oblivious when a girl is pretending to be a boy except for the audience. Nontheless, it's one of the most interesting love triangles I have ever seen in an anime: Kyouko most likely made the promise to Harutora because of that mini-flashback, Harutora loved Natsume's familiar that was nothing but a kind of "remote controlled puppet", hence, he loves Natsume, he's just as dense as the guy in IS and Natsume loves Harutora I can't wait to see the moment when Kyouko finds out Nastume-kun is a Natstume-chan
Spoiler:
I think we can safely say that Kyouko made her promise with Harutora. Natsu-chan was living as a girl when she was a child remember? I think Kyouko's gonna be in for a rough day at the office when she finds out she's been lusting after the wrong person!

Well Mr. KalashnikovMarine, you are absolutely right about Golden Time it's 2:40am here and I have to wake up soon enough, but I couldn't stop watching the available episodes
Lovely, lovely story, with a very likeable MC and there's a lot of hilarious moments: the offering of the sacrifices to the onis was one of the best so far
And it's not only the ending, the opening makes me smile every, damn, time.
Now I have Kill la Kill AND Golden Time to cheer up my thursdays!

See, I knew Charl was female immediately (and it wasn't just because of the whole "Only girls can pilot ISs!" thing either). It's the hips.
Spoiler:
Ouran
has a much straighter, thinner style to their figures, and so there aren't those secondary/tertiary characteristics to judge by.

Something is bugging me about the Slayers mythos - magic is clearly very powerful in this setting, and not everyone has it, so what's stopping the mages from just taking over everything? I mean, they can just Dragon Slave all resistance.
I mean, friggen hell, Rezzo nuked a city!
Also, if Rezzo is blind, how come he behaves as though he can see? This show confuses me :/

Westwood lives in death!
Peace through power!
A longbeard when it comes to Necrons and WHFB. Grumble Grumble
I tried watching Naruto. I just can't get into it though - I just don't like the style or the Characters.
Also tried watching One Piece, but didn't make it past the title screen - I need something darker, Hellsing style, or hell, even Bleach-level darkness...
Still need to try IS though, so maybe that will work...

Hmm... Don't know if these would work but if you're looking for a darker anime I think I might know a few:
- Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
- Elfen Lied
- Another (though I heard this one was pretty bland)
- (from what I heard) Deadman Wonderland
- Berzerk
Hope these help!

Just saw higurashi no naku koro ni, highly recomend it if you want dark. Besides those, Shiki and Mirai Nikki. Ergo Proxy has it's mysterious and dark side as well.

Not sure if One Piece ever gets really "Dark", but it definitely grows a beard or two about a dozen arcs in (it's rather, long.)
I've found that it's actually a fantastically character driven work, with a setting that's reliable enough in its silliness that the Anything goes style of combat and adventure doesn't feel out of place when viewed alongside themes of genocide, racism and class warfare. (no, really, One Piece has all that stuff. It's mad.)
IS is anything BUT Horror. Or at least the first season is. I haven't started watching the second yet.

Sheldon Cooper might find IS to be Horror
Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Yes, I too like to watch my weekly dose of One Piece. It really pulls off the whole "grand adventure" theme by actually being a grand adventure.

Yep, IS is definitely not horror, but it does have some good action and mecha designs for a fan service anime.
Dark Angels- 7500 pts Tau- 5000pts Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts Zoom, Zoom, Iyaan.

One Piece is a happy go lucky kid who wants to be King of the Pirates, living a dark dark world, and who despite his nature is forced to get serious every now and then.
Finished IS S1 yesterday and wow, that final boss was glorious. It looked beautiful AND kicked major ass!
Laura remains my favorite. Not only is she the most direct, her mech is a freakin' Broadside: It's beautiful to see it shoot.
Next gym day, off to IS S2!
Oh, and concerning Berserk, the anime doesn't touch the really dark part of the story. The anime is the "prologue" arc, where it's explained how Guts evolved and turned into the Black Swordsman. It's not even a tiny bit dark compared to everything else, it's the "soft". This is a tiny bit of the wiki's resume that shows what I mean:
From a conventional medieval European background, the story shifts to fantasy and horror,
It only goes full dark after a certain event.
Read the manga, literally the first scene of the manga
Spoiler:
Is him having sex with a woman, said woman transforms into a demon (uglier than the deamonettes if you can believe it), happily taunting him how it's fitting he will go to hell while enjoying heaven and "I've got you now", Guts gives no feths, jams his mechanical arm (that's A CANNON) inside her mouth, "I have got you now" and blows the back of her head.
There's crappy worlds, then there's the world of Berserk. It's as if the entire Chaos of the 40k universe was clumped together in a single planet. The Warhammer Fantasy Chaos isn't a strong enough comparison of how much a Crapsack World it is.

The Anime has already broken from the manga quite a bit. Several supporting characters have been cut and the outcome of episode 6 (to my disappointment) skips over most of Haruna's current character arc, but I suppose that'll save time (AoT could have used some of that).
