Right off the bat, fill your elite slots before you purchase a second commander. Anything that outranks a Shas'ui is overpriced.

Use those points to make your army more killy. An Ionhead might be a good choice here.

To further what Cottonjaw said, don't ever take bodyguards before you've completely filled your elites with Crisis suits, especially at this points level. They aren't worth the extra cost.

As CJ & Beregond said, demote the bodyguards, save points and fill out the Elite slots. Points saved could be spent on a Target Array to increase the BS of your Shas'el.

BTW: If you leave this as is, the majority Toughness of your unit would be 3, due to all the Gun Drones. Switch to Shield Drones, every time, although, once you put them in their own Elite FoC slots, I'd dump the Shield Drones. JSJ on a 1k sized game ought to be enough safety. Unless the terrain is really thin.

Lastly. Are you really set on FireKnives? Mixing in a couple FireStorms increases your anti-I dakka and frees up points from the pricier FKs.

Are the missions of the tourney objective based? (of course they'll be), but I'm wondering if you couldn't trim down the kroot a bit for more points. FW #7 can certainly go. His presence doesn't help.

I think the points of a BK are worth rallying a railgun.

I pick two full hq units because of the quality of the fire with targeting arrays. I have no markerlights and the output of fire is decent.
Bonding knife wouldn't do. Although it does auto regroup units the broadsides are already at the end of the board so they'll run off before they can regroup.

Quality of fire is no issue with the Tau, quality of fire is already decent. What you will lack as a result of your choices is volume of fire.

And, regardless, bodyguards offer the same quality of fire as a normal suit anyway. The fact that you're taking all these TAs at 1k points is another issue with the list - you're better off getting more shots, not slightly better ones. You're spending what, 500 points on 6 suits? For a potential 6 Str 6 AP2 shots at long range, 12 at rapid fire, and 12 Str 7 AP 4 shots...

Same points cost can get you an entire extra fireknife and an 'el with BS 5 if you do it right, if you change one fireknife team to something else you get even more...

As we've said, bodyguards just aren't worth the extra points neither is paying 20 points for +1 bs.

If you disagree with us, fine, that's up to you

Alright, but don't expect to be able to deal with any form of horde... or even any slightly numerous army

Not sure why you'd ask for advice then ignore it =\ but each to their own, I suppose. Shame you got pretty poor advice that led to this list last time, but these things happen

Its just that the advice you gave me actually contradicts my intended plan =p. I figured i won't be able to deal with any sort of horde army and just do my best with those. I'm more concerned with the plentiful meq armies around my lgs especially as this is a beginners tournament i'm hoping people don't have a horde army ready to go!

Um, no. Not "auto regroup" like spehsss muhreens. But it allows them to 'regroup' below 50%, meaning being allowed to 'roll' for it.

Beregond is right. Tau can dominate at lower point levels, usually because *quaNtity* of fire will blow out the enemy.

Still. Advice is freely given and ignored at your cost

This is my reasoning. Ive read a lot of articles comparing math hammer with firestorms and fireknifes and volume of fire just doesn't cut it in this scenario. Taking something like an ionhead would be cool from completely trimming my list but thats only adding one unit to my list at the cost of degrading all my suits to bs 3 and what not.

The quantity of fire i currently have is quite sufficient. 8 suits all with at least 24 inch range and harassing each turn with 36 inches at least. I don't mind bumping into horde armies. I'll figure something out.

This is why i respectfully decline these specific and related criticisms =p I also expect a fair number of meqs.
