Subject: Buying Vallejo paints - best place to start

Hi,
I've recently been getting back in to GW specifically 40k (and marines), and after my time out the price of GW paints has definitely risen!
A lot of what I've seen online seems to suggest the Vallejo paints are a great alternative, can anyone suggest a good starting set to get based on this? I've had a look round and I know it's all about assembling the paints you need as you go, but they seem to have a lot of ranges and I wondered if someone knew a good box set to start with.
thanks

I will probably be greatly disagreed with after this but: dont buy game color. Its a great range and closely matches GWs colors. The model color range is superior. In color choice and formula VMC is a solid range. Thewarstore sells starter packs flip through them and find a color set that looks like it has most or all of what your need. VMC Flat Black is especially better than Chaos Black. I would suggest you dont restrict yourself to any one range of paints. P3,GW,The various Vallejo, and even Golden Liquids each have distinctive advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks for the feedback. Should mention I'm from the UK in terms of stores but should be able to find an alternative to the warstore

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/ - free worldwide postage on any order over £10 as well as very frequent sales, a standard discount on most ranges of 10-15% and loyalty points. Can be a wait on delivery, depending on what and when you order, but I've never waited more than 3-4 weeks for an order. They also carry a couple of other paint lines like P3.
